Set in 45-acres of estate with stunning woodland stretching to the banks of the River Nith, the 19th century Friars Carse Country House Hotel offers private fishing and is situated 6 miles from Dumfries town centre. This fine Scottish Baronial Hall has a magnificent paneled entrance hall with an elegant staircase and offers guests a spacious lounge overlooking the gardens and river. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in and around the hotel. The views from the hotel was always changing depending on the weather. Our room this time was not as good as the last time we were there.

What a top surprise this was. Full of character with great grounds for walking. Is an ageing facility but most inviting with open fire, bar and great hospitality.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was awesome, quiet countryside, we walked along the river for over a mile.The food was excellent It was somewhat difficult to find. Our Nav system had the wrong input info and send us to some local farm...where the farmer was very courteous and directed us. Town was only 15 mins away, but Would need to have a car to see the area.

Stunning location and lovely hotel. Staff were really friendly and accommodating, especially as we had two young children with us. Very comfortable & spacious room and good value.

Efficient friendly staff Good food Hotel is welcoming and lived in comfortable,log fire in lounge a welcome on a very cold day. 2 minor points only 2 small pillows each for kingsize bed. It was a big room. We could have done with 2 small chairs to sit and watch TV. There was one small chair provided. Room felt a bit basic but lovely views from bay windows.

We thought that all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was spotlessly clean and food very good. The whole experience we found there was wonderful and great credit to everybody who made our stay memorable. Frances and Neil We had to say goodbye!!!!

The bargin rate of £79 for 2 nights B&B we thought was too good to be true but the hotel was very good and an excellent room for the money. Would I pay the full price, no, because it did not feel that special however the staff were good and the environs excellent. The price of the drinks and the rediculus prices for the al la carte menu.

Hotel was lovely and grand looking. Food was a bit pricey but the quality was superb. Room was too hot and the pillows were uncomfortable.

Unfortunately, the only thing I found slightly unclean was the shower. The bottoms of the shower doors needed a bit of attention. Otherwise a fantastic stay and will go back.

The hotel was great,lovely peaceful setting ,friendly staff and the food was excellent. A great place to relax and unwind, we would definately go back again. We enjoyed a walk down by the river as well. Our shower was very basic and didnt work very well .
