U get what u pay for
They charge money for the coach going to airport
Room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was small, but very tasty. Hotel was basic - but was expected for the price I paid.
Car Parking was limited.
The location is the plus point. Close to Gatwick but in a nice residential location. Also 5 minutes walk from Horley town centre with choice of restaurants, cafes and pubs.
The place looks very run-down from the outside (compared to other guest houses nearby) and is currently being renovated, so during the day is noisy from workmen. My room was just completed but lacked a curtain and wardrobe rail; the curtain was fitted while I went for a walk. The floor above my room creaked loudly when people walked, which in a place of early risers for the airport could be an issue. The worst aspect is the poor security. The front door is unlocked 24 hours, but I never saw anybody at the reception desk - you use the reception phone. A sign asks you to leave your key when you go out - no way when it just lies on the counter in an unmanned reception and an unlocked front door! The room door is a Yale lock and my room lock latch was loose; the door felt very insecure.
I guess you get what you pay for, unfortunately my neighbours were very noisy, lots of door banging etc. I only stayed one night as had a very early flight, very close to Gatwick so ideal for this.
The noise! You could hear the busy road until very late too.
5 min drive away from Gatwick - was perfect for my needs. Lovely & quiet place, felt safe and welcoming there.
You are not allowed to eat in your room, but there's a plenty of space downstairs. Was a bit hard to find Wi-fi password but I managed eventually.
The breakfast was okay
Airport shuttle was said to available so asked while booking to pick me up as it would be dark and gave my flightnumber to pick me up. In reality I found my way to a busstop, had to call them and wait. Room was very very oldfashioned.
Location , price and quiet nice breakfast .
Small bathroom but clean
We stayed here as we had a flight from Gatwick at 6am. The hotel was a beyond our expectations. They also offer a reasonably priced transfer to the airport.
Quite hard to find, aNd not close to public transport.
Blankets used instead of Duvet Covers
Location is very good, near to the busstop (bus 20 goes to South Terminal, 2.20pounds). Very quiet place. Tea-koffe in the room.
We were staying there not the first time, there were no any problem before and there were no any worries now, when we were ordering and paying for the hotel transfer to airport for 5 a.m. But this time no any car was waiting us by this time, and when I called (thanks God I had the phone number) driver even was not informed about us. He came very fast and we were lucky on fast security, otherwise there would be spoiled holiday. I hoped at least to hear any apologize on the way back, but receptionist was only looking at me by empty eyes...
clean and near to airport
It's close to the airport
At 4 am I did not find anything for my breakfast
Was in a great location for the airport. Very cheap airport parking and airport transfers! Excellent value for money.
Our room was situated a live the front door so we could here everybody that left/entered the hotel. The guy that checked us in could have been a bit more chirpy
We got bigger room than we booked. We also got transportation to the airport at 8am, which was good. Good for one night stay. Center was near also :)
Whole floorcarpet. Doen't make it look clean.
Very quiet room resulting in a good nights sleep. Excellent breakfast with good service. Friendly and welcoming staff . Reliable transport to the airport. Altogether, very good value for money, so will definitely return and recommend to friends.
Could not fault anything.
Gainsbrough Lodge is in an old house close to Horely town center, which was useful for getting an evening meal. The airport shuttle got me to the terminal on schedule (I had an early flight). Shared bathroom was large and clean. It was nicerr than staying in a modern impersonal hotel; staff were very helpful and efficient.
The roof was being repaired so hammering till 6pm ish. But there was a note to explain this, aplogising for the disruption.
Good location for airport. Very clean and well refurbished since last visit. Very friendly and helpful staff. We appreciated transport at a most unsociable hour and it's reasonable cost. Very suitable for very early flights.
The fact that we could leave the car and have transport to Gatwick Airport
We told the member of staff that our flight arrived at 11.30 p.m. but he did not tell us that the transport arrangements ended at 11 p.m. We were therefore left stranded at the airport. We rang the hotel and had to pay extra to be picked up.
Everything, didn't like getting up early to get to the airport but that's hardly their fault. I paid a £5 fee for the early morning airport transfer (it only takes 10min or so). I was so happy as it made my very short stay there so much easier. I didn't have to worry about anything like in the previous places, nothing to take care of but getting showered and going to sleep, it was very nice and quiet there and you can rent DVD's there too. It was also the only 3 star place that actually still provided shower gel at least on my trip (3different places in 3 days). An absolutely beautiful, modern place (and this was a basic room). I really felt guests were being taken care off. Also great value for money! Would stay there again any day!!!
Nothing but never got a chance to try their breakfast as I had to leave so early.
Was just a quick stop over from airport landing 1.30am to train 7am .. So value for money good ,
Had very heavy case to carry upto top floor . But of course that's not hotels fault .
Location / Value for money / Cleanliness of room (looks recently renovated) / airport transfer / Proximity to downtown
Poor soundproof (laud noise heard from other occupants especially in early morning hours) / No free Wi-Fi in rooms / Strange warning signs in room - something like "No eating in room. 50 pounds penalty" What's the definition of "eating in room"? Say having a candy or an apple? Makes little sense.
Attitude of night staff after 18 hours travelling they was not very helpful
CLOSENESS TO AIRPORT
I could check in at any time.
I think that £4.00 parking is not good.
