Gainsborough Hotel7-11 Queensberry Place, Kensington, SW7 2DL London (Show map) Good, Score from 181 reviews“The cleanliness of the hotel is good. The location is perfect, so near to National History Museum. Behind the hotel is a perfect corner with different Restaurants to dine. The staff members are ready to help any time.”

The Gainsborough feels like an English country home in London. It is close to London's museums, the Albert Hall, Harrods and the restaurants and shops of Chelsea and Knightsbridge. The Gainsborough is a converted Victorian house with a classic style and an informal atmosphere. It is named after the celebrated artist, whose portrait of the Duchess of Richmond is in the spacious lounge/reception. The hotel is a short walk from the Natural History Museum and South Kensington Tube (subway) station, which has a direct service to London Heathrow Airport. Close by are the exhibition centers of Earls Court and Olympia. Hotel Rooms: 49

Courtesy of restaurant staff. Breakfast. The hotel is in an excellent location and enjoys the advantage of a beautiful building. It enjoys the services of good culinary staff. Otherwise, there is little about this hotel which suggests insight into the needs of those guests who seek a four-star hotel. The lack of monitoring and oversight leads to basic and embarrassing inadequacies in the service given to guests; the management of cheaper and less fortunately-situated hotels in which I have stayed across Europe and Africa have shown far more acumen, care and skill in service delivery. I have paid half as much for service four times as good. I have already begun to advise business associates, professional colleagues and friends to avoid The Gainsborough!

Lovely and helpful staff always pleased to assist. As expected a small room (single) for a central London hotel but clean. Near to South Kensington Tube and the Natural History Museum. The only thing I would change is the temperature in the room, it was so warm I had the air-con on in the night. The shower was unfortunately cold in the morning.

Location. The central heating was switched permanently on with no method of reducing the heat as the system was broken. The management switched our rooms to one in the basement, which had no view other than decrepit old chairs and off cuts of hardboard propped up in the courtyard. The bathroom was too small with no room to stand properly in front of the sink. The water in the sink itself did not drain away and the pipes were obviously blocked.

Comfortable and clean hotel in convenient location. Staff helpful and polite. Easy to locate. Lovely spacious bathroom but shower attachment didn't work properly, therefore impossible to get a decent shower.

I like the location The bed was extremely small that I had to upgrade and pay extra $50. They gave me slightly bigger bed but again very small room. It is worst than a hostel. It does not match the pictures in the ads. I would never ever stayed there If I knew that. Thx

Location and size of hotel. Very expensive for the standard. Room small for a delux. Tatty decor, room to hot, bathroom horrible, very sub standard, dripping tap, warn and stained bath. For the price I expected a mini bar and ironing board.

The location was wonderful. 5 minutes from the South Ken Underground. The hotel had character. I was annoyed with the constant charges. I wanted to check into my room early as I was visiting from the us and wanted a shower following my flight. They insisted on charging me 35 gbp. No hotel has ever done that to me before and I travel a lot. Need to use the Internet? 5 GBP per hour or 10 GBP per day. For that money one would expect a great connection. It was terrible.

It's location and by London standards good value The room was overheated and stuffy. A room service tray from a previous guest stayed outside my room for over 24 hours. My sleep was disturbed by a faulty fire alarm at 4am. The decor/room linen etc are all dated/

This is the second time I have stayed as a single and have been given a room the size of a cupboard. The Single rooms are very misrepresented on the site. I would not recommend the single rooms as they are so small you can hardly open a suitcase. Others were complaining at the desk about their size of rooms too. Also the shower presure is so slow it is nearly not worth it...

Well located for Albert Hall & Museums. Not bad for shopping For a "4 Star" the public areas dirty and worn, few facilities, third bed was very rickety, bathroom very tatty. Cleaning fair to poor.

How close it was to the royal Albert hall The fact that there is a nightclub next door to the hotel which kept me awake until 3:40am and a fire alarm going of in the hotel room at about 3:30am in the morning but did not even recieve an apology even after bringing it up with the staff

Location and staff frienliness Single room very small size. Generally speaking London hotel prices too high for what they offer , but that is not a fault of the hotel itself

The hotel is well situated for the museums and South Kensington underground station. Very grand structure but had the feel of having seen better days and would benefit from a refurbishment. The discounted price I paid was value for money (99.00)but I would have been disappointed if I had paid the full price.
