The tea-making facilities. The room safe. English breakfast was very good.

The back shelf of the buffet was very difficult for me to reach. Lack of double-glazing made aircraft noise an issue. Low water-pressure in shower.

The hotel is comfortable; the staff are polite and obliging; the location is excellent, near the centre of London, close to transport, close to tourist sites. It is where I usually stay when I come to London.

Room 401 very very poor

The Room

We stayed at the Gainsborough as it was close to the Royal Albert Hall. The location was excellent with easy access to restaurants and museums. We were upgraded on arrival to room 104 facing the road. The room was clean if a little dated and a bit small. The décor was in keeping with the age of the hotel but could have done with re-furbishing. The bed was comfortable. We found the tea making items in a drawer under the tv and plenty of toiletries in the shower. On arriving home my husband found he had left his keys, the receptionist rang back in the morning and said that they were there and we received them back through the post the next day. Apart from the tv we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

We were very late back and ordered some food from the 24hour room service hoping for a late supper and some television in bed to relax. The food came after a long wait and wasn't very good value as the sandwich was stale and the soup was only warm but the big disappointment was the tv. We couldn't get a single channel and asked the young man who brought the food if there was someone who could fix it. He said that he would try. He was unable to fix it and later rang to say that we could have pay tv free of charge. We were unable to access a menu for the films and the one we eventually found to watch went off after half an hour.

The hotel was very well presented, the decor was lovely as was our room, it was also very clean and comfortable. The staff on the reception was very helpful to us and he appeared happy and smiling throughout. I would defiantly recommend this hotel to others.

There was nothing that i didn't like.

The furnishings were very tasteful, smelt lovely and clean. The room was a good size, and a nice comfy bed.

Bathroom was small and needed refurbishment.

You had to pay 10 pounds extra voor Wifi, and also few channels on tv, erverything you had to pay for.

Near the South Kensington metro station in a fantastic distric and walking distant from Harrods it's a nice point of start for visiting the city

The staff were very friendly and polite. The hotel is quaint and has a homely feel to it and also a bit of class.

The location of the hotel is excellent; it is quiet and comfortable, nicely decorated and the staff are helpful and friendly. I enjoy staying there.

The decoration in the single room I stayed in was rather shabby. particularly the bathroom. The blind was broken and the window was draughty.

Very well located within 5 mins walk to South Kensington tube station, near museums, Harrods etc. Lovely lobby area.

No tea or coffee facilities in room. Room was in basement so rather dark but fine for just 1 night.

The bed mattress need replacing, the springs were coming through. I had a double deluxe room 108. The TV's need upgrading very very old and the room was not that warm, it was 0 degrees outside so heating needed to be turned up.
