Thought the staff were great and the food wast fantastic, stayed a few times and will keep going back, it really is a great place.
Could have done with an extra pillow in the bedroom, but feel foolish even putting that, it was great all round.
Comfortable stay and staff very friendly
Having to pay extra £7.95 for a cooked breakfast. This was the option if you did nor want continental.. cereal, toast, ham and fruit!
We arranged this trip for a celebration. We arrived on a Sunday evening, looking forward to an evening meal in the restaurant, to be told by Richard the owner that the restaurant does not open on Sundays. We discussed our options then he said "come and join us at my house we're having a party, you'd be more than welcome". We were taken to the party and enjoyed a most wonderful evening with friends of Richard. We won't forget that evening!
Just about everything. Not your usual hotel but the rooms were homely. Food at breakfast and dinner was very good. Staff were most pleasant and helpful. Wine was unsurprisingly excellent and inexpensive.
Hotel was busy so parking was a bit of a lottery.
Very old building, with all the quirky features that goes with that..unlevel floor tilting cupboard low ceilings etc! bed very comfy and host really nice helpful bloke nothing too much trouble.
I thought I booked with a full English option was only given the continental but that may have been my error when booking. Has car parking but meant double parking with other guests and leaving keys etc...not a problem just caused my boyfriend a little anxiety re his car getting knocked etc.
Very accommodating. As I was traveling with my mother (and neither of us young), I appreciated that at check in, they immediately volunteered some help getting our luggage up the stairs. The room was huge! And very comfortable. I enjoyed sitting in a stuffed chair reading while my Mom was resting on a couple of occasions. There were plenty of towels. On arrival there four sets for the two of us and we found other sets in the drawers. Every day we would find four new sets. It provided a lot of amusement. Loved the older building, clearly has been a coach house with rooms for centuries! Lots of history, yet the plumbing is well updated!!! Great location! We were traveling on public transport and very easily walked (with luggage!) over from the bus stop! Was also central for exploring Llangollen. :-)
The bed I had is ready to be replaced (room 5 I think). At least since I was one person in a full sized bed, I could find a comfortable corner and then slept fine despite early misgivings. (My mom's full sized bed did look brand new and she was very very comfortable). The other furniture is very pretty but not very functional. Closet door sticks, drawers don't slide. Wasn't a big deal for us but could be for others.
Lovely location and comfortable accomodation.
Breakfast wasn't the best I have had. Cold beans didn't go down well.
Everything was perfect, a friendly welcome, beautiful , comfortable rooms, complimentary carafe of port, and a bistro with fabulous food just down the stairs. Beds were very comfortable and luxurious.
We liked everything.
quirkyness, originality, felt very much like staying with friends!
The beer garden has so much potential and needs developing.
Excellent food drink and service in bar/restaurant but slightly pretentious 'fine dining' aspirations which some people like but I don't.
Really comfortable room, great food, excellent service, good parking, great atmosphere, a great welcome from Richard and a fair price. Best stay we have had in the UK for our month so far.
It was all good!
Food and décor of rooms
Lack of parking
Lovely room, bed really comfortable
Rooms were very large and beds comfortable Breakfast included was advertised as continental but in addition to fruit, yogurt, toast etc we were offered meat, cheese and something cooked if we wanted it. Lounge and restaurant right in the hotel and parking in the back.
Don't get a room on the top floor unless you are fit - very narrow steep staircase to haul your luggage up. Wasn't a problem for us.
The rooms were lovely, beds comfortable. The food was great, especially the breakfast and the staff were all friendly and helpful.
The shower in our bathroom was awful. Low pressure and very difficult to get any warm water from it. This is our only criticism.
The suite in gales is a real charming one very quirky and spacious the complementry port is wonderful highly recommended
Mr Gale Jnr couldn't do enough for us particularly with regard to our celebratory meal for my brother's 60th birthday. What a knowledgable guy partic re wine! Rooms pretty decent too....Many thanks from all of our party.
The wine bar served very good reasonably priced food and wine. Location good for Offa's Dyke path. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Rooms a little tired although comfortable and clean and tidy. Small carpark full when we returned from an outing.
the rooms in the hotel are all different, querky you might say, location was spot on very close to everything, the wine bar with its food was very enjoyable...good it had its own car park
the room could have been finished to a better standard, fixtures and fittings, was either loose or falling off..fan in the toilet had seen better days, wireing to the telly, looked as if had not been finished, cable blocks just left dangling
Food was excellent
Fantastic room and beds. Friendly staff and helpful advice. Great meal next door. All round super.
Parking a little tight but it is available.
Location excellent. Spacious room (1)
The room was dirty in the less obvious but still v important places....bathroom blind, wardrobe shelf..our clothes came out dusty...and floor behind bedside tables for example. Breakfast was limited even for continental relative to the room rate.
Location, Free upgrade to Cottage 23 was a huge bonus, as we could cook our own meals/have takeaways and not be restricted on meal times. Very well equipped cottage with fantastic garden/decking by the river. We will be back!!!
Distance from Cottage 23 to Hotel - this would have been an issue if we were having breakfast in the hotel (but we didn't - so no real problem) checking in and out involved a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, no car space near cottage and lots of bags - but luckily the road was quiet, so we stopped outside temporarily. No draught beer or lager, so we drank next door - again, no real problem.
The large TV in the room.
The hotel has a warm and welcoming feel about it with excellent staff to go with it. There is an excellent wine bar on the premises and the rooms are spacious, comfortable and very quirky, with most of the original beams and wood panelling still in tact. My wife and I loved it. Dont forget to order a cooked breakfast, the local bacon and sausages are to die for. I also enjoyed the glass of port waiting for me on arrival.
That I had to go home on the Sunday
