Good,
Score from 119 reviews
“The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the cleanliness of the room were the highlights. Also it's fantastic value, I've never had a room that didn't work, they are smallish, but they work. I love the neighbourhood, though it's a bit of a trek to the West End.”

Room was comfortable, clean and large; and staff were helpful and friendly. Nice tv and ok furniture Room 5 had the most ridiculous 'shower' ever experienced....took 45 seconds to fill a pint bottle. Would have received a better shower by turning basin mixer taps on and putting thumb over the outlet.

we needed a hotel close to my daughter and this was a great choice. Also close to tube so even though the weather was cold we didn't have far to walk. Everything worked which is nice. only negative was the closeness to the main road, but nothing that ear plugs couldn't handle.

We liked the location as it was close to our son's home and close to the Clapham South underground station which was very convenient for going into central London. When we booked, at short notice, there was only one room left, a twin room. It was very clean and the facilities were very good, including the best hairdryer I have ever found in a hotel. It was better than expected for a cheap, budget hotel. It is on a main road and you can hear the underground trains going by so it is quite noisy. This may be more of a problem in the summer when you need to have windows open but it didn't concern us as we were there at the end of November.

The location of The Gateway Hotel is perfect for my purpose. I was prepared for the hotel to be less good than it is, but there was very little to complain about. It contained almost every feature I could have wished for with very few disadvantages (see below). I rated two features good rather than excellent because one has to leave room for improvement, but overall there was very little to improve. The room even included a small refrigerator, which is really thoughtful. I have rated value for money excellent because of its location for my purpose and the fact that is in London. I thoroughly recommend it. The absence of a handrail to the original house, now used as an annexe, could be a safety hazard for some guests. Clearly the Health & Safety inspector has been trumped by the Heritage inspector because the hotel is not allowed to instal one. If there is an accident on the steps somebody may have to think again! The hotel fronts onto a busy road and the double-glazed windows provide excellent noise suppression but no ventilation, and I found the room too warm the first night, but better the second. The bedside lights did not work because the type of bulbs used are known to fail frequently but had not been checked, and the shower gel needed replacing, which was corrected immediately on request. A small bedside table would have been handy.

The hotel is located on a corner next door to the Avalon pub. It was extremely noisy. 24 hour traffic and noise from the pub. Would not recommed for a relazing weekend.Near shops and restaurants and very close to Clapham Common.

Perfectly situated as we were going to a festival in Clapham Commom. Lovely neighbourhood, food shops just 2 minutes away. Friendly and very helpfull staff. New bed, soft duvet - slept like a baby. WiFi was not working at all times in the room, but a 1 minute walk to the reception and everything was fine. No staff at the reception at check- out (Sunday at noon) which I found a bit strange. But left key in po box and hopefully they got it : )

Proximity to underground station. Breakfast not available since we arrived after 5:00 pm and it had to be booked before that time. Noise from adjacent Night Club and from the underground trains - but could have been a lot worse since the sound proofing was good.

The staff. The thing I saw crawling to the bedroom. Probably a mouse or something. Didn't bother me at all though, and I had quite a good time.
