not too much but ok for one night. staff having a full blown argument in a foreign language by telephone outside our bedroom early on Sunday morning, goods trains rattling the hotel early sunday morning, and traffic that never eases all night.

The hotel was clean, and service was good and friendly. The dining room was nice and the breakfast was excellent. Decided to stay an extra night, cos finished work late. Wouldn't have done this if I wasn't happy with hotel.

Cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Myself and my girlfriend were attending a court case in Wales and we found the hotel online. The staff were very polite and helpful, the hotel was clean and well presented and the room was excellent. They even let us leave our car in the car park (after checking out) while we were in court. If your tierd of you generic mass hotels then stay here you will love it Scott & Laura

Great value hotel and everything you need. The breakfast was good. The free wi-fi internet was really handy. Parking was fine. The nicest thing is that in the guest room they leave enough supplies for 6 tea/coffee a day, which really makes us feel at home!

The location and parking. The hotel staff (packistani) had a problem understanding english, the 3 breakfasts we ordered not one of them were what we wanted, the dining room was never hoovered, what failed was a small waste bin on the table for the packing from the butter etc:, as guests we were not asked if all was ok, the staff were never available for answers to any questions we had, the bathroom was not as clean as should have been, the floor was dirty when we arrived and not once cleaned, the overall deco of the hotel left a lot to be desired, light bulbs did not work, the free wifi, I had to ask for the login for the wifi, it was not given by booking in, all in all a very poorly run hotel, I will not be booking into again.

Friendly staff The reason for the poor rating on cleanliness and comfort is that one of the three rooms taken by our group stank of cigarette smoke.

It worked for me, good price, tea, biscuits and a kettle in the room, even the one person room had a double bed and there's was freeview, so overall a good place to stay if you're budgeting, and maybe even if you're not, it's close to the city centre where there a quiate a selection of bars and pubs. I was happy with it.

Room was clean. Very comfortable beds. Linen was clean and smelled very fresh. Good shower (very important!). Breakfast food was of good quality and very well cooked. Good value for money. And free Internet access. Only thing I would say is that the receptionist was very quietly spoken.

The Gateway hotel was great value for money - it was close to Newport train station for easy links into Cardiff - about a 5-10 minute walk maximum. The hotel room was lovely, we had the attic converted room and was very nice with coffee / tea facilities, ironing board, iron, heated towel rails, modern shower, nice size double bed and a flatscreen wall mounted for bed time viewing with a nice sized window also. Great cooked breakfast in the morning too - worth the £5 extra pp for the decent breakfast - great service at breakfast also. The shared access areas / stairwell could do with a lick of paint - it's a shame as I saw that first and thought, okay room is not going to be much but the room was fantastic completely the opposite so to avoid first impressions, they should match the hall decor to the high quality of the rooms.
