Nestled in the Chiltern Hills, just north of the River Thames as it winds through Buckinghamshire, The Stag and Huntsman is situated in the picturesque village of Hambleden.
Score from 142 reviews Excellent
The bed was atrocious. It sagged terribly in the middle and sloped to the sides. We seriously considered sleeping on the floor as we weren't getting much sleep on the bed.
Our room was full of character and the bed was very comfortable. All staff are very pleasant. The bar has a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast good (apart from waiting for a table).
Had to wait for a space in the breakfast room as it was not large enough to seat all guests at the same time.
traditional, quirky, recently refurbed bathroom, comfy bed
quality of food and level of service in the bar poor
THE FOOD WAS QUITE EXPENSIVE BUT NOT THE BEST AND NOT ENOUGH STAFF
Staff Room Bed Breakfast Location Car Parking
Lovely old characterful hotel. Clean and comfortable ,quirky and different, much more interesting than a holiday inn etc. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely home cooked food.
Was located on busy main road which was dangerous and could hear some traffic noise in our room which was overlooking the road. Waited over an hour for food which wasn't ideal with children!
Cold bacon for breakfast
Good price for a family room, and staff were friendly and informative. Breakfast was excellent.
The restaurant menu gives the impression of complicated, accomplished cooking, but was actually very poor. The duck was overcooked, 'vegetable noodles' had no vegetables and no sauce, burger was black outside and pink inside, and for £10-15 a main course this was very disappointing.
Our second stay at the George, as usual great food, excellent choice of ales, friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to the next time
Not very clean,
The friendly, informal but efficient welcome and check in was a delight, the room and facilities were excellent though a little tired in terms of decor.Good food and excellent selection off beers.
A little application of bleach would not be amiss in the bathroom.
The food and the guy running the bar, I presume he was the owner. Great fun, out kids want to go back to see him again !
Rooms a little basic, no soap or shampoo in the room !
Huge bedroom and bathroom. Extra blankets, lots of pillows, hairdryers, comfy chair and gigantic wardrobe. Delicious and plentiful breakfast.
Small tv, Jacuzzi that didn't work.
Interesting, centuries old building. Not a straight line or right-angle in the whole place! But my room was beautifully refurbished and all the plumbing was new and worked perfectly. Limited but excellent and balanced dinner menu. 4 real ales available in the bar. Helpful staff.
Excellent location, convenient for what we needed. Reasonable room, and very good value. Food OK, breakfast better than dinner. More personal service than you get in the chain hotels, and no more expensive.
We had the 4 poster bed, and, yes, as another reviewer says, the TV is very small. Bacon at breakfast had great flavour but was not crispy enough.
Not a lot
Fawlty Towers. Initially given the wrong room, then the wrong food and the list of woes continued throughout the night. We will not be staying there again.
Being refurbished and will be lovely when completed, some rooms a little dated but adequate, staff and food very good
Friendly staff, good food, comfortable accommodation.
Dinner & location.
Breakfast & staff.
The welcome from Charlie was great as was the food. Actually it felt a very friendly place. Lots of character and things to like about the venue
Sadly the air con/fan right outside my room (1) was a monster. So very noisy and clearly dispatching a "cooked food smell throughout my room". Suggest this needs an immediate fix - would rather pay more and not have that smell and noise. Breakfast needs to be sharp at 7.00 - have work to go to. Young lady who served though was very helpful and friendly ( might have needed some help to deal with all of the customers)
Everyone was very friendly and there was lots to do in the area. The food on site was very good
Lots of character, the room and the posh bed!
Great freindly atmosphere. Staff very helpful. Great character place to meet up with friends. Good food and beer and wine.
A bit old fashioned but hs much character.
The staff were very friendly and did their best to help resolve our problem. Th hotel is very well located for exploring West Wycombe. Very good breakfast
Our room (no. 1) is located directly above a noisy kitchen extractor fan, with the result that the smell of cooked food permeates the room. Having mentioned this matter, a very helpful member of staff used an air freshener and advised us that the fan would be turned off at 9pm. We were subsequently offered another room but chose not to move, as the problem had diminished.
