If you have an aversion to large corporate hotels this is the place for you as it has loads of character is well run with pleasant staff/owners very popular with the locals and food is good and reasonabley priced locals

Food excellent, staff very helpful and courteous.

Room no 4 excellent sized en-suite. Room could accommodate slightly wider bed.

The Pub has a nice old world feel to it. Offering a good choice of food and a few cask ales to choose from. The room and bathroom we had was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with everything required for a short stay. We had an evening meal which was ok if not spectacular and similarly the English breakfast was fine but not standout in any way. All in all we would stay here again on the basis that everything is to a reasonable standard and the location is very good

The only thing and I guess other people must have commented on this, is that the room we were given was dark because there was no view and very little light gets into the room. A wall and window is directly opposite - a few feet away and immediately below is a roof. There is no actual view at all of anything. Having said this the room was well appointed, clean priced very well and it was only one night. If we were to visit again for a longer period I would refuse this room on the basis of the light and negative view.

The accommodation and food were good.

One or two members of staff could do with customer care training.

Our particular room was a bit dark with no view except of a tiles roof and a wall, overlooked by another guest room so privacy was a bit of an issue as they were higher up and could see in.

The whole experience was very,very good. It ticks AlL the boxes.Food excellent too!

Nothing really. A very minor point only.... the weather was exceptionally cold and the lounge/bar area in the evening was not always 'cosy warm' despite the open fire,not helped by customers who tended to leave the outside door open and not the fault of the management.

The decor, the atmosphere, in a nice North Yorks. village, very good menu; delicious food for both breakfast and dinner. Full English breakfast included

Cold room (but they did provide an extra heater), uncomfortable small double bed, poor small duvet, poor bathroom lighting, outside courtside room.

I liked the friendliness - it was good to feel really welcome, especially being on one's own. Staying in an old coaching house instead of the modern monochrome hotel was enjoyable because the room and facilities were just as good.

Nice pub atmosphere though a little quiet (but it was the night before Christmas Eve!). We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant (even though we were the only ones there) and the wine (SA pinotage) was reasonably priced.

Not a great issue, but the room was outside in the car park, as were several others. A bit like a motel or Campanile chain room. It was very clean, warm and with a comfortable bed however.

Do NOT change a thing, Superb hosts, nice food, wonderful getaway break.

The staff, who were polite, friendly and always at your service. They even went out of their way to find lost property for me and offered to send back to me by registered post. The George is a first class establishment.
