It was a real pleasure to stop in a hotel that was reasonably priced which had character and wasn't just a square box. I entertained customers for lunch and dinner and was very impressed with the quality of the food. The breakfast was also very good

Having travelled most of the United Kingdom staying in various hotels, I can honestly say that the food at the George is probably the best I have had at any that I have stayed in. Our only dislike was a constant fan or A/C noise in bed through the night in room number 3.

We'd aranged a weekend to go mountain biking and having visited Brecon before I knew the hotel did good food, real ales and had friendly staff who helped us store the bikes. In this regard we were not disappointed at all. However, please read on.... Unfortunately the six of us were located in four rooms in the annex to the hotel just off the main street - absolute disaster! The rooms are all next to a late night club, late night fast food shops and a cash point. The noise from the drunks in the street was horrendous and kept us all awake until 4 am then at about 5 am came the mechanical street cleaning machine which woke us all up again. We all got up for breakfast and to a man we were exhausted after a really bad night - my advice - don't go there on a weekend if you are booked into the rooms in the annex. Powys Council licencing people should pull out their fingers and tackle the licencing issues including the noise and anti-social behaviour issues. However, the Hotel accepted our booking knowing that we would be placed in those rooms and that our sleep would not just be disturbed but ruined so that we drove back home all feel shattered - very disappointed. Until these issues are resolved sadly I could not recommend the George Hotel for a Friday/Saturday night stay.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the George Hotel. The oak panelled bar had the air of a Victorian Gentlemen's club and served excellent local real ales (Evan Evans), and our evening meal was top-end quality that would have cost twice the price if served in London. The staff were all friendly and efficient, and our large room was clean and comfortable. The hotel in well situated in the middle of Town and is a great base for exploring the Brecon Beacons. In fact, we are now looking for an excuse to return to mid-Wales just so that we can stay at The George again. The only minor problem was the fact that there was no car parking. There is a public car park just behind the hotel that is free after 6pm, but you have to pop out at 8am to buy a ticket (£1 for two hours) when charging commences. There is not much that the hotel can do about this, but do bear it in mind!

A great hotel run by very friendly helpful staff. It was good that we could book for 1 night only and that they take dogs. Found the food to be very good with an excellent breakfast. It ticked all the boxes for us.

Loved the refreshing high level of customer service. Nothing was too much trouble at all and all staff were very friendly and warm whilst maintaining professionalism. The public areas were all clean and tidy. The breakfast was one of the best hotels brekkies we have experienced in a long time. The mattress in room 10 left us with achey backs the next morning and definitely needs replacing. The room sloped but it is a very old building with lots of charm so those kind of issues are to be expected.

Although the hotel is ok and central I would like to comment on a few things which don't necessary mean that I didn't like them. Stayed in the annex twice now and had different rooms but they had the same faults. Floor is uneven. Room cold and could have done with extra bedding. Toilet didn't flush properly. Car parking facility would be beneficial or some sort of incentive with local authority to agree ticket until 11am which is check out time.

Hotel staff were welcoming, room was warm & cozy. Breakfast was really good. Location excellent. All in all a really nice place to stay as we needed something central for a family celebration in the Boars Head.

Unfortunately I didnt like anything about the George Hotel. My perceptions were related on the pictures and high rating on the web site and when I arrived there I would have left but we were in Brecon for a wedding and didnt have any options. Plenty of hot water though and the breakfast and service was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Extremely old and the floors and staircases were so uneven it was almost as though it was a joke. The decor was dated and when i went to draw the curtains the curtain pole fell off the wall. The room was too hot but when you opened the window the street noise especially at night was incredibly noisy. The light in the room when on kept flickering, the shower was filthy and the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall. You couldnt shut the bathroom door as the door was too big for the architrave. The beds were uncomfortable but clean. . I am going to say no to the question below but am aware that some people like oldy worldly and are not so fussy as I am. I think it would be ideal for backpackers and people hiking in the area.
