Location of hotel great, bar was really nice a bit overpriced and staff where nice. Breakfast was not good three separate rooms put us in the little one when not that busy pregnant so had to keep going up the stairs to get drink, cereal etc even when toast came to little jams etc had to go to big dining room to get big jars that where sitting out don't think that's very hygienic been in bigger hotels and they even have little preserves.

superbly clean; professional; wonderful old building well restored and maintained. Internet is hopeless - if you need fast easy Internet then this is not the place for you; foyer is cold yet you need to go there to access wifi.

Only the idea....in reality the hotel, especially the room we paid for , number 139, was dull, poorly lit, economy lights,no light above sink in bathroom, and ridiculous opening out shower door....also no possibility of daylight as overlooked by building about 2/3 metres away. Sorry, nothing, as it was probably the worst Edinburgh hotel we have stayed in over the last fifty years, Recommend EDINBURGH YES your hotel NO.

Staff at breakfast very friendly. Staff at reception were very disorganised. They seemed to have no idea of who was checking in and had great difficulty finding bookings made. Very frustrating and a bad start.

we stayed for my 50th birthday and had a treat your partner room. the room was spacious and clean we had chocolates and a complimentary glass of fizzy in the bar.the hotel is handy for shops and bars on George street. All the staff were friendly and did apologise for the room delay and breakfast. We hope to visit Edinburgh again soon and would consider the George again. Im not sure if it was because it was a bank holiday but our room wasnt ready until 4 oclock and in the morning we had to wait for our breakfast as there didnt seem to be enough staff. we didnt mind too much but there was a lot of complaining guests around us.

Room (125) was on the first floor...but without any view as something was blocking the window. Bed was not very good. Breakfast was not very good and too expensive (£16,50). No wifi in the room.

Room was clean, bed comfortable, staff pleasant. Also, the location is excellent. No WiFi in room 657. Was told WiFi was available prior to booking. Was very disappointed as I had to go to the lobby to connect with my clients. Suggest you upgrade to WiFi in every room if you want to attract business clients. If not, make this very clear to all your prospective clients to avoid disappointment. The chair is the room was broken - the back legs were very loose and appeared to be about to collapse. I reported this and ask that it be replaced before going for a walk. Was told it would be replaced immediately. When I came back an hour and a half later, the broken chair was still in the room. I took the chair down to the front desk and ask that it be replaced. It was replaced within 10 minutes. That is what it took to get the attention of your staff. So, not as responsive as I expected from a hotel that promotes itself as sophisticated and luxurious. The table at breakfast had a fixed lamp in the centre of the table making it awkward to have an easy conversation with my colleague. These should be removed in my opinion - they add no value whatsoever.
