The hotel was modern and clean especially in the communal areas. I booked this stay for myself and my husband as a treat before our 1st baby is born in March. We were in an executive room at the front of the hotel. Nowhere does it mention that there is a nightclub directly opposite. We stayed on a monday night and were kept awake from 2300-0345 hours. not impressed! This was supposed to be a relaxing overnight stay. Hotel did offer a free upgrade next time we stay at the hotel however as I mentioned I am 7 months pregnant and it will be a long time before my husband and I have another night away. After my experience we have no desire to stay at this hotel again! No refund or partial refund offered for the inconvenience encountered.

The George was well located. Rooms were good size. We were stranded by the hurricane and couldn't get home, so were glad that the George could accomodate us for two nights. Basically, it was not the luxury hotel it was supposed to be. Kind of run down looking. Room had a funny smell; shower water pooled on inside window ledges probably making the moldy smell; decor and lighting were okay (thought it was going to be a luxury hotel, so that surprised me - they made an effort at some point so the bathroom fixtures were new, but the tiling wasn't or was done cheaply); so noisy at night - parties in the hotel and parties in the street til all hours , didn't sleep for two nights, really. Housekeeping was sloppy - didn't put a top sheet on one of the beds.

On our first night we stayed in a room that was above a dumpster and on an alley which was very noisy. I ck'd with the staff the next morning and they immediately said that our room would be changed for us. I also was unable to mail our pkgs, (due to a weekend) and they kindly handled all of this for us. We were given exceptional treatment and courtesy. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again and I would certainly recommend the hotel. We arrived a bit early for ck in, and because it was a very busy time for them, we had to qait quite a bit for our room. They were kind enough to store all of our luggage and shopping.

A nicely presented hotel on the surface, entrance hall etc good. Breakfast was acceptable but nothing special. Complimentary glass early evening glass of wine was welcome in hotel reception. Rooms were seriously overpriced for the size and faciltiies offered. Bath and overhead shower were very compact making showering difficult with a very basic shower curtain. Despite extortionate room cost, no replacements of the two small water bottles were given the following day despite requests.

City centre location Double bedroom very small, bedroom facing onto George Street noisy at night. Breakfast, got toast but no other choice of breads when we eat (9.00am). Stayed in far better 4 star hotels in europe. Overall very expensive for what we got

Location On the Sunday they had so many guests we along with others were stuck in a room off the main breakfast area. As a consequence the food was just warm and always running out as it was served from hot trays.

Location is great, parking is a 10 minute walk away concierge staff are really nice Where do I start, booked a business package for 2 days with breakfast and internet included (no wireless signal on 2nd floor), the executive room was a good size but the bathrooms are the smallest ive ever stayed at.our room despite being on the second floor overlooked the alley with the bins which are emptied every day except sundays at 5 am yes 5 am ! when I asked to be moved I was told there would be a 100 gbp charge for the 2 nights to get a view and even the concierge staff that showed me the room said it would be a complete waste of money, breakfast is a muddled through affair with very slow service and mediocre food.would I stay again never!!

The rooms were excellent and we all appreciated the champagne and chocolates. Some of the staff were excellent namely Eva on reception, Lucas the concierge and Monica in the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble for these particular members of staff. Ou main complaint was only the breakfast facility. We had 2 disabled people in our group of 6 and on the Saturday morning we came down to a large queue. We were told to stand and wait by a very unfriendly lady. After ten minutes I went to reception and Eva sorted us out immediately with a table. In fairness I think this was partly due to how busy the weekend was. The weekend was very expensive and I expected much more at breakfast.

I was extremely disappointed that the package I booked was not fully provided e,g, the £5 drinks voucher. The quality of the room was in no where near the value or the description. On my future trips to Edinburgh I can not see me even considering staying at the George again. As I said at the top, extremely disappointed.

It's location. Staff were not overly welcoming or friendly. The room was too small and I expect more for €190 per night. I felt it was bad value not to include breakfast for that price. I would not recommend the George following my stay.

Great location. Helpful staff. Fabulous decoration. Very noisy during the night when having a room facing the George street without double glazed window. I was waken up by the noise for 3 times one night.

Beautiful building in an excellent location. Most disappointed: some offers for the in house bistro were pushed under our door after we went out for the vening ( so useless for us , could have been given at check in ) , following two fire evacs at 130 and three am , none of the cleaning staff were aware to not knock on doors from 8am waking guests , they did this twice , and reception staff had no manners to even apologise or ask how the stay had been at checkout . Seemed to be run on a shoestring with untrained staff and zero management competence . Given this poor staff condition the vfm rating relies purely on the building & it's location .

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful Christmas holiday ! We feel that the advertisement next to the bed about adult entertainment tv takes away from the quality of your Hotel. Every time I looked on the night stand I felt as if I were in a lower class hotel.

The hotel was centrally situated. Staff were all very welcoming, professional and helpful. Rooms were excellent, very clean and spacious. It was my husband's birthday and they put a birthday cake in the room - very nice touch. We would definitely return to the hotel again.

Very nice georgian hotel in an excellent location for all of the new town/old town offerings. Hotel staff on the whole pleasant with good services. Room was clean and comfortable, only slightly ruined by noisey builders one morning directly outside the room. I didn't get my newspaper on the last day.... Not the end of the world, but the attitude of the receptionist was very dismissive and I felt it was my fault! Did not even offer a paper when I asked for one. Very strange.

Too much noise from the street, people drinking and heavy bus traffic - very poor window insonorisation - we could not sleep at all for two nights. Rooms facing the George Street definitely not recommended if you want to rest.

The service in the Tempus Restaurent was slower than I would have expected. This occurred during breakfast and at dinner. At the former, waiting a long while for serving staff to spot us and offer tea/coffee and toast took a long while. The dish ordered for dinner, lamb, whilst on the menu, took a long while to appear. Five other couples, seated after we arrived, received their starters - and one couple their mains, too - before we received our first, (and only course, therefore). We did not order a dessert.
