Fantastic hotel

I have often stayed at the George over a fifty year period. It has been a fine traditional hotel and has an excellent location.

I regret thet the George is losing it's traditional status. I used to love meals in the old Dining room. The attractive rooms on the ground floor (the bar) are now cheap coffee shop facilities and have lost all their old world charm. I positively hate the new Dining room and it's awful pictures and music. I would not have been critical but you asked. As I have several forward bookings I will still use The George but I would have thought in a city like Edinburgh you are losing a really great selling advantage.

Location and dress of concierge and service buy Polish men was excellent .

No Wi-fi in room. Bed was two joined together and uncomfortable. Not suitable for two people to sleep close together. Wake up call when not asked for at 8.15am and had a bad sleep, then could not get back to sleep.

Thenor of the staff and the bedroom was both fantasticfood was excellant also. Really enjoyed our stay will return again next time we are in edinburgh.thing no complaints

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff we incredibly helpful and polite. It semed that nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner in the restaurant which was just superb, as was the breakfast. We will definitely stay at The George again as it was perfect.

The location and the room

The hotel itself was in a prime location and the room was of a good size and decor. Our first problem that because we used booking.com there seemed to be a mix up with whether we had paid or not, so they took a copy of our card which was not a problem. Later on that evening we ordered room service since we were in bed, but we were then told that we would have to make our way to reception to pay as they had no record of our card? I found this unacceptable considering they took a copy of our card upon arriving? The next morning we went to breakfast only to find the hot plate food, dry having sat too long, the cold meats and cheese were hard around the outside where they had sat for some time and then we had to wait around five minutes or so for some more yoghurt. I understand that the hotel was reasonably busy, but there were plenty of staff on and I had to ask twice which is unacceptable. Then to top things off, when we checked out they had managed to misplace our bank card details. I'm sure that our series of mishaps were a one of but they ruined our stay and I would think twice about staying at the The George hotel again which is disappointing considering the positives. First class accomodation. We had a very nicely decorated room on the 6th floor which was quiet. Staff were excellent as was the breakfast. Central location with access to all main sights in Edinburgh. Pity the city is going through such a big revite with the new trams - Pedestrain routes around Princess street were often a chore.

- breakfast cold - room standard poor, eg. cracked toilet, no minibar, pillows poor quality etc. Where should "complaints" be logged if not here?

Excellent city break! Luxurious room and champagne package was fabulous!

Only criticism was that maid tried twice to come into room in the morning! Most hotels wait till you've checked out to clean room. This was at only 1030am!!
