That the owner personally greeted all guests at some point on the first day. Food was excellent Art on display and some items for sale added to the general interest in this hotel
Lovely hotel with fantastic service and staff who go out of their way to make you welcome. Fabulous dinner. And the breakfasts were something else! So beautifully done. The only thing that would have made it better still? The bed is past it's use-by date! Thanks for a lovely stay
The bed sagged in the middle and was not up to standard of everything else in the hotel. Time to replace it! At least in Room 21!
A wonderful hotel, staff were superb they could not do enough for us. The food was excellent. A wonderful relaxing time in a beautiful location.
The primary reason to stay here is to sample the superb food served in the restaurant - better than many Michelin star restaurants we have eaten in. The comfortable accommodation (not over priced) makes this a great place to escape to enjoy quality time with friends & family. We will be back!
Friendly, useful staff The breakfast was top notch The shower was amazing
Excellent dining experience Welcoming staff Relaxing environment
Nothing to dislike
Friendly attentive staff, Lovely breakfast, Clean and relaxing atmosphere, High quality finishes
No meals served in the afternoon, Not much in the surrounding area
Very friendly staff and spacious clean room with seating area. Very nice breakfast. Good location.
The staff, the wifi, the food
Beautiful hotel and gorgeous surroundings. Delicious food at breakfast time. Lovely staff!
A service charge was added of approx £7..I did not expect this!
The willingness of staff to help us.
Comfortable size room and ensuite.Centre of village location.
Ground floor room means just that, however our room was 1 metre below that level! Just 36 steps were traversed to reach our room and return to reception. The menu was limited and NQ, it was also minimum 2 courses. There was a 2 item 'Early Bird' but were unaware of this at booking dinner.
Friendly, efficient staff. Good location and pleasant hotel.
Food just about ok but much inferior to what we have experienced in other hotels this year for less money. We felt food and drinks quite expensive, particularly food for prices charged. On this basis we would find it difficult to recommend to other people.
Perfect location to visit loads of places in the Peak District. Room at the back ensured peace and a quiet rest. Great breakfasts, and the service was excellent.
Room looking out the front was a little noisy. Dinner wasn't served until 7pm, which of course may suit some people.
bar/lounge, food/service/ location ambience
bed was very small and saggy.
5% service charge added to the bill
Friendly staff, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, great lounge & restaurant (had lovely evening meal and breakfast excellent too), beautiful rooms (recommend the 4-poster with the turret; otherwise worth going for a superior room as much bigger). So many lovely little touches (interesting books to read, for example). We've tried a number of hotels in the Peaks and this is our favourite.
Breakfasts were wonderful. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bathroom was spacious and sparkling. Location was central and car parking was ample, an important factor in Hathersage where parking is limited.
Very little. The evening meals sounded amazing but I prefer a simpler, cheaper menu. The single room was an awkward shape, but had plenty of space.
The restaurant staff were attentive both for the evening meal and at breakfast. The evening meal menu was varied. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Very nourishing for a days strenuous walk.
I booked the 2 nights at the George as a birthday surprise for my partner via booking.com. I requested a quiet room. The room overlooked the staff car park. We were disturbed early each morning as noisy staff arrived. I was expecting a bath, as per booking.com room description. There was only a shower cubicle. I did see in other rooms which were larger and had been refurbished. The tariff in the hotel information was less than what I paid, which was disappointing. I did mention this to several staff and was told the information was out of date and would be changed. A disappointing experience.
5% service charge Also being offered a cup of tea (tasting like dishwater- which I did not drink) whilst checking in, then receiving a charge (£3.40) Room (7) over looking main road - noisy
Everything! Couldn't have been looked after any better
No complaints at all.
Everything about this hotel was perfect for me. The room was much better than anticipated. had a luxurious bath tub which was fantastic to sink in after a long hike, the bed was comfortable, free tea, coffee and biscuits replenished every day. Also the room was cleaned daily, had very good Wifi, was nice and quiet so got a few nights of solid sleep. The best thing about the hotel was the breakfast. I could choose anything from a breakfast bar plus a hot meal. The bacon sandwich with their signature tomato and black pudding bread was delicious!
Very charming hotel Nice and very helpfull staff Very clean Super breakfast
Our double bad was very small and short. This was the only issue.
outstanding welcome from staff on arrival after very long journey. room spacious and comfortable, with attractive feature windows relaxed 'nothing too much trouble' attitude of the staff good, tasty breakfast
bathroom door handle rather stiff, had to release from outside no piano (but other guests may have felt differently!)
Food very good especially the rabbit pie.
Small bed (standard) when room could have accomodated a larger size.
