Two miles from the centre of Sheffield, Halifax Hall provides luxurious boutique accommodation in a Victorian mansion setting. Its en suite double rooms all have free Wi-Fi and parking.
Score from 672 reviews Superb
Comfortable size room and ensuite.Centre of village location.
Ground floor room means just that, however our room was 1 metre below that level! Just 36 steps were traversed to reach our room and return to reception. The menu was limited and NQ, it was also minimum 2 courses. There was a 2 item 'Early Bird' but were unaware of this at booking dinner.
Perfect location to visit loads of places in the Peak District. Room at the back ensured peace and a quiet rest. Great breakfasts, and the service was excellent.
Room looking out the front was a little noisy. Dinner wasn't served until 7pm, which of course may suit some people.
bar/lounge, food/service/ location ambience
bed was very small and saggy.
Friendly staff, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, great lounge & restaurant (had lovely evening meal and breakfast excellent too), beautiful rooms (recommend the 4-poster with the turret; otherwise worth going for a superior room as much bigger). So many lovely little touches (interesting books to read, for example). We've tried a number of hotels in the Peaks and this is our favourite.
Everything about this hotel was perfect for me. The room was much better than anticipated. had a luxurious bath tub which was fantastic to sink in after a long hike, the bed was comfortable, free tea, coffee and biscuits replenished every day. Also the room was cleaned daily, had very good Wifi, was nice and quiet so got a few nights of solid sleep. The best thing about the hotel was the breakfast. I could choose anything from a breakfast bar plus a hot meal. The bacon sandwich with their signature tomato and black pudding bread was delicious!
Very charming hotel Nice and very helpfull staff Very clean Super breakfast
Our double bad was very small and short. This was the only issue.
outstanding welcome from staff on arrival after very long journey. room spacious and comfortable, with attractive feature windows relaxed 'nothing too much trouble' attitude of the staff good, tasty breakfast
bathroom door handle rather stiff, had to release from outside no piano (but other guests may have felt differently!)
Food very good especially the rabbit pie.
Small bed (standard) when room could have accomodated a larger size.
I was lucky enough to be upgraded from a single room (which I had secured at a pleasingly low price) to a double room at the peaceful back of the premises - so the value for money turned out to be outstanding, but there was an element of luck in this. The bathroom facilities were certainly excellent. The restaurant was one of the reasons for which I picked this hotel, and it definitely lived up to expectations. The food was skilfully cooked and presented, and I was looked after most attentively. Another essential for me in choosing a hotel is good (and preferably free) car parking. In this case it was pleasingly spacious and accessible.
Attentive staff Superb food Old fashioned courtesy and comfort with a modern twist Excellent shower!
Quality and service excellent
Early morning noise from kitchen
Lovely allround Stay. Great, friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay again and upgrade room next Visit. Breakfast was great too.
The refurbished layout works well The location was ideal as I arrived by train and my wife by car Good location for access to the family camping in Hope and a wide range of other interesting locations in Sheffield and North Derbyshire
The old fashioned atmosphere of the hotel and the friendly, helpful staff.
The expensive service charge for tea and coffee served at the bar. We ordered tea at the bar because we were with some friends so didn't want to spend all the time in our rooms and we were taken aback by the bill.
The staff were absolutely brilliant - nothing was too much trouble. The owner came and personally greeted us while we were sat in the lounge one evening, to congratulate us (I was due to give birth the next week) as the receptionist had tipped him off. The George's early bird menu is good value and the food is excellent - both for evening meals and breakfast. It was a lovely location to stay for a couple of days - there is an outdoor swimming pool nearby that's great when sunny, and nice cafes nearby. We only live 20 minutes away and often visit Hathersage, but it was the perfect place to come for lazy lunches, reading, quiet and quality time together.
The George is perfect - it's clean and friendly with very helpful staff. The room was exactly as described and great value for money on this deal. Amazing breakfast in the deal. We ate both nights in the dining room - splendid food. A really lovely break in a good location at an excellent price.
We loved it all!
Very good breakfast and nicely presented, lovely staff, extremely clean and comfortable room with a nice large bathroom.
I thought for £159 it was a bit overpriced for the room we had and near a busy road. The breakfast although very good we felt that portion size for the traditional breakfast was just adequate but could would have liked more but it was all cooked very well.
It was what it said it was on the website
No air con!!!! stupid health and safety windows open 2 inch so you cook in the room during any warm spell
Bathroom fantastic - great power shower and deep bath Breakfast range of food Value for money evening meals - quality and presentation
Room was hot at night but we were given extra fan. Couldn't have windows open as we overlooked the road
Spacious and well appointed room. Quality of food (mostly) Public areas very good
saltiest kipper I've ever eaten! Service in the restaurant was a bit offhand - "there's your wine, help yourself"
Breakfast and friendly staff.
Room was too hot, but then it was a heatwave.
Great food. Very comfortable. Staff made you feel special
Hot room but did provide a fan
We only ate breakfast in the hotel as we were going to a wedding. The food was one of the if not the best breakfast we have been served. The choice and quality of the food was excellent. Thought the bar prices were a little pricey.we wouldn't however hesitate to stay with you again.
The bath in our room was fine but lacked a handrail on the wall. The room could do with an air conditioning unit, we were supplied with an electric fan. Being so close to the pavement we didn't open our windows until the morning, this meant a poor nights sleep. I know it was the hottest weekend of the year, but an air conditioning unit would have meant a perfect nights sleep.
Beautiful country location, amazing views, fantastic breakfast. Staff were very helpful and our room was huge.
No wi-fi signal in our room, but that did guarantee peace and quiet.
The staff were great-welcoming helpful and friendly. The room we had on the ground floor was spacious, quiet and beautifully decorated - very little traffic noise even though it's on the front.
Don't know if there were staffing problems in the kitchen, but we had to wait an hour between ordering and having our starters.Front of house staff were very professional, though.
