The location was ideal for walking in the hills and the service was good with a friendly atmosphere I think it was over priced for the standard of the hotel but as it was a special occasion I was prepared to pay the costs. I would not stay at this hotel for a normal week end break

Friendly hotel - staff excellent. Breakfast good, excellent choice. Did not eat in the Restaurant as it looked overpriced and there was only one table occupied, although the hotel seemed quite busy.!!!

The room and facilities were very good and the staff were both professional in attitude, friendly and helpful. The lounge is warm and welcoming. A bill "adjustment" for a meal was good. The price of food did not reflect the quality ; for example the smoked salmon sandwiches at lunch had only minute amounts of salmon. The early bird evening meals were unattractive and drew comment. One breakfast order arrived quite different from what was ordered and the hurried replacement was not properly cooked and had to be left uneaten.

Very pleasant staff, always helpful, good car parking facilities, easy access to Sheffield as well as Peak District. Excellent food. Rather too low lighting in lounge if trying to read paper after dinner.

Helpful Staff, friendly and thoughtful. Food was excellent. Great location for that country feel. Lots of nice outdoor shops in the village/town. Traditional, old hotel - rooms a bit small, but that is the nature of the historical age of the building.

Staff were attentive but not pushy. The lounge area was very comfortable and the general atmosphere was very relaxed, we did not feel rushed to have breakfast or to vacate our room at the end of our stay. Was very impressed with the key fob (affectionally known as the bomb to us), one would be hard put to loose it. We also liked the off road parking. I have spent a good five minutes trying to think of any aspect of our stay that we did not like, sorry came up wiht a big fat zero, unless you take into account the fact that life happens and we had to leave.

This is a wonderful hotel. We liked the lovely countryside in the surrounding area and the stylish, tasteful design of the hotel which suited the historic building. The bedroom was very clean, very comfortable, quiet luxurious and stylish . The breakfast was superb and the staff were friendly, polite, helpful, kind and efficient. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Food excellent. Room was lovely. The afternoon tea and tea in general was the best. The bed was not the best. I think they should upgrade to pocketsprung mattresses. The noise coming from the boilerhouse...not ideal.

Friendly staff. Cosy hotel with good menu in the restaurant. Good location for visiting Peak District. The bed wasnt very comfy, could do with replacing by a new superking sized bed. It felt past its best, when considering the price of the room. The room is large and comfortable otherwise though.

Location. Food was very basic, staff were not helpful. In one instance all staff disappeared and after numerous calls and bell ringing we decided to help ourselves to our key and retreat to our room.

The staff and other guests were friendly and that made for a congenial atmosphere. The location in Hathersage was convenient and it was a good centre for exploring the Peaks. Food was good but.....see below ..........The food was expensive - approx. £100 for dinner for a three course meal for two and the menu was monotonous. Christmas lunch (food only with a glass of champagne) was £85 per head
