The location was ideal for walking in the hills and the service was good with a friendly atmosphere I think it was over priced for the standard of the hotel but as it was a special occasion I was prepared to pay the costs. I would not stay at this hotel for a normal week end break

Friendly hotel - staff excellent. Breakfast good, excellent choice. Did not eat in the Restaurant as it looked overpriced and there was only one table occupied, although the hotel seemed quite busy.!!!

The staff at the george were very nice and good when we needed a new tv in the room. We were a little dissapointed with our room. We paid 145 pounds for it and we didnt think it warrented that high price. The menu for the evening meal isnt for people who want a normal meal, its all a la carte and very pricey, although breakfast was very good.

We were only staying for one night, en route to another stop, but the staff made us feel very welcome. The reception, bar, restaurant and room cleaning staff all had a very professional manner, but were friendly at the same time. The room was very clean and comfortable. The evening meal was beautifully prepared. Some might find the main course portion size a bit small, but it suited us, and by the time we had had generous portions of cheese and fruit for dessert, we were quite satisfied.

The hotel was excellently located in that it was easy to get to, enabled easy access to all local facilities and provided a very good base from which to do all of our planned activities in the Peak District. The luxury and comfort of the hotel was especially appreciated after a days walking. The breakfasts were not of a standard to match the hotel.

The public areas and dining rooms Bedroom furniture not really comfortable for business travellers - uncomfortable to use a dressing table and stool for working on a laptop

Friendly staff. Cosy hotel with good menu in the restaurant. Good location for visiting Peak District. The bed wasnt very comfy, could do with replacing by a new superking sized bed. It felt past its best, when considering the price of the room. The room is large and comfortable otherwise though.

Location. Food was very basic, staff were not helpful. In one instance all staff disappeared and after numerous calls and bell ringing we decided to help ourselves to our key and retreat to our room.

The staff and other guests were friendly and that made for a congenial atmosphere. The location in Hathersage was convenient and it was a good centre for exploring the Peaks. Food was good but.....see below ..........The food was expensive - approx. £100 for dinner for a three course meal for two and the menu was monotonous. Christmas lunch (food only with a glass of champagne) was £85 per head

Quite atmosphere, clean and tidy. Staff were excellent. Although more expensive than the meals we usually have, the food was fantastic. Nice for a romantic meal for 2. I wish I could afford to go more often. It was an expensive treat. Some might not want to pay what we did for one night.

I remeber the George as a Derbyshire pub many years ago but it has been completely refurbished as a boutique style hotel. The interior decor is to a high standard and well designed. The location is excellent and the rooms good. We didn't book for the restuarant evening meal and the only table available was at 9.30 so can't comment on the food other than the kippers and the breakfast generally were excellent. There were clearly non-residents coming for dinner. Overall not cheap but worth the money for the overall experience. Recommended

Good location and lovely historic building. Breakfast was very good! The bed could have been a lot better for the price of the room - it sagged on the middle!

Good but not overfacing breakfast. Staff able to provide details of local amenities and walks from the hotel.
