Score from 467 reviews Superb
Food good, CHOICE OF REAL ALE, always a good sign. Comfortable bed.
Down stairs bar, lounge and restaurant were lovely. Staff very friendly. Had lovely stay.
Upstairs corridor to rooms needs new carpet and brightening up a bit
The food was superb. Both dinner and breakfast. Fantastic!
If you can go pass the linguering stale smell in the corridor, then the room was fine, fresh and comfortable.
Quirky. The food was very good including breakfast
Room was tired old carpet and generally not to a good standard
Staff helpful Breakfast was comprehensive in offer
No mobile signal Wall mounted Large TV in room didn't work, wasn't linked to an Aerial. Shower had low pressure
I like the breakfasts which were excellent and the pub meal was good but the positioning of the tables and chairs was cramped and unwelcoming.
The rooms do not look cared for and really feel like the ceilings and floors are about to go. Bathroom was old and window sills were rotting. The whole place needs a real going over. It is a shame because the position is brilliant.
The room itself was good.
No communication with staff. I arrived was given a key told where My room was and that was it. I had to find out how to get in after closing, where and what time breakfast is served, bar times and more. This should all be done at check-in.
Instead of single room booked, got v nice large room with large bathroom, inc bathtub. This was good value for money (though I would have preferred paying less for smaller room). On pub courtyard, so feared would be noisy, but actually quiet. Good breakfast. In centre of attractive village of Castle Cary. Good evening meal.
We wanted a low-cost room for the night with a good breakfast thrown in, our room was one of the courtyard ones (quiet) and was warm, clean with a good size bathroom, good TV, free wifi and in pretty good condition. Tea & Coffee facilities meant we had everything needed, and the cooked breakfast was very good. Excellent value!
Not much!!! The outside of the building looks a bit scruffy, peeling paint etc, but it is the inside that actually matters and the room was fine. Bed was a bit soft, but that's a personal thing.
The Location The Breakfast The Bar
The bedrooms are very 'tired'
The hotel is in a good location and it was sweet. The food in the bar and at breakfast was good.
The bed was uncomfortable and very creaky. We had no hot water on one morning of our stay.
Only one towel but apart from that, all good.
Enjoyed the location in town. A very interesting place to stay, steeped in history and thoroughly enjoyed. Food was very good and enjoyed the time spent out in the garden as well.
Location - visiting Somerset art festival events
Having to go back to work! Would have liked to stay longer.
from arriving the staff could not have been more helpful - i am elderly but came on my electric folding bike - i was relocated to room 12 in the courtyard, met Robert who helped me in every way, stupendous breakfast -I shall return
The food was excellent and the staff were very accommodating. The room was plenty large enough and you have to expect a bit creaky in a property of that age. They do allow pets so next time we will be able to take our dog along too. A bonus.
The bed was too hard. It needs a topper! However, all hotels seem to think that a hard bed is good for your back, it isn't, that is why toppers are becoming so popular!
Beautiful Cotswold town King bed! Hearty breaky all in a 15 th century hotel
the staff were very friendly and helpful breakfast very nice
the bed was very squeaky dipped in the middle ,the bath was not cleaned very well had hairs in it children running up and down the stairs early in the morning
Character, food, cosy
Noisy and diy a bit shoddy!
Room was lovely and as expected from the photos Food was good quality and reasonably priced We had a minor issue with our room, which was fixed immediately, with wonderful customer service. Great staff doing an excellent job
The location is good for our needs
Decoration very tired Breakfast there was no fruit or yogurt available on buffet as menu stated, otherwise food very good
Very friendly and helpful staff Food was good and the hotel has a lot of character
Towel rail in bathroom - room 6 was on constantly and although we did ask if someone could turn it off (on the hottest night of the year) this unfortunately did not happen so the room was very warm
We stayed in the courtyard, good quality bed linen and towels, roomy rooms. Good breakfast. Courteous staff.
Needs a bit of renovation. Noise from above us at night.
the male manager was friendly
you couldn't get a taxi anywhere, the owners son was on the computer at reception most of the time. The room was overpriced for what you had and the menu was limited especially for vegetarians.
Only a couple of minutes by cab from the train station. Perfectly located in the lovely town centre. Friendly staff.
