Score from 74 reviews Wonderful
Instead of single room booked, got v nice large room with large bathroom, inc bathtub. This was good value for money (though I would have preferred paying less for smaller room). On pub courtyard, so feared would be noisy, but actually quiet. Good breakfast. In centre of attractive village of Castle Cary. Good evening meal.
We wanted a low-cost room for the night with a good breakfast thrown in, our room was one of the courtyard ones (quiet) and was warm, clean with a good size bathroom, good TV, free wifi and in pretty good condition. Tea & Coffee facilities meant we had everything needed, and the cooked breakfast was very good. Excellent value!
Not much!!! The outside of the building looks a bit scruffy, peeling paint etc, but it is the inside that actually matters and the room was fine. Bed was a bit soft, but that's a personal thing.
The Location The Breakfast The Bar
The bedrooms are very 'tired'
The hotel is in a good location and it was sweet. The food in the bar and at breakfast was good.
The bed was uncomfortable and very creaky. We had no hot water on one morning of our stay.
Only one towel but apart from that, all good.
Enjoyed the location in town. A very interesting place to stay, steeped in history and thoroughly enjoyed. Food was very good and enjoyed the time spent out in the garden as well.
Location - visiting Somerset art festival events
Having to go back to work! Would have liked to stay longer.
from arriving the staff could not have been more helpful - i am elderly but came on my electric folding bike - i was relocated to room 12 in the courtyard, met Robert who helped me in every way, stupendous breakfast -I shall return
The food was excellent and the staff were very accommodating. The room was plenty large enough and you have to expect a bit creaky in a property of that age. They do allow pets so next time we will be able to take our dog along too. A bonus.
The bed was too hard. It needs a topper! However, all hotels seem to think that a hard bed is good for your back, it isn't, that is why toppers are becoming so popular!
Beautiful Cotswold town King bed! Hearty breaky all in a 15 th century hotel
the staff were very friendly and helpful breakfast very nice
the bed was very squeaky dipped in the middle ,the bath was not cleaned very well had hairs in it children running up and down the stairs early in the morning
Character, food, cosy
Noisy and diy a bit shoddy!
Room was lovely and as expected from the photos Food was good quality and reasonably priced We had a minor issue with our room, which was fixed immediately, with wonderful customer service. Great staff doing an excellent job
The location is good for our needs
Decoration very tired Breakfast there was no fruit or yogurt available on buffet as menu stated, otherwise food very good
Very friendly and helpful staff Food was good and the hotel has a lot of character
Towel rail in bathroom - room 6 was on constantly and although we did ask if someone could turn it off (on the hottest night of the year) this unfortunately did not happen so the room was very warm
We stayed in the courtyard, good quality bed linen and towels, roomy rooms. Good breakfast. Courteous staff.
Needs a bit of renovation. Noise from above us at night.
the male manager was friendly
you couldn't get a taxi anywhere, the owners son was on the computer at reception most of the time. The room was overpriced for what you had and the menu was limited especially for vegetarians.
Only a couple of minutes by cab from the train station. Perfectly located in the lovely town centre. Friendly staff.
Friendly and attentive staff nothing too much trouble. Food is excellent and it's a lovely old building. Some of the rooms could do with a change in furniture but the warm welcome and friendliness more than make up for that!
The staff was very helpful and the food was excellent.
Decent sized room, with sofa and arm chair.
Dirty washbasin. Previous occupants belongings under dressing table. Noise in courtyard, outside our room until 03.55 am from other guests talking & laughing. Noise from kitchen extractor fan, right outside bedroom window, which was open due to stifling hot day.
The service, food, staff and ambiance
It was a hot sunny weekend and the bedrooms where uncomfortable hot. It would have been nice to be offered fans when arrived not told we could have one when we left.
Loved the age and history of the building The owner made us very welcome on arrival, we had one of the courtyard bedrooms which was well fitted out The food was excellent
The bed it felt like a water bed every time I or my wife moved the whole bed seemed like it went up and down. please change this before we visit again
The rooms are very very hot with almost zero ventilation. Food tries to be haute cuisine but misses the mark.
Nice place to stay very relaxed.
