This delightful and friendly family-run guest house is ideally located just a short walk away from York Minster and the historic and cultural centre of York.

Score from 13 reviews Exceptional
Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.

lovely room, very clean, pleasant staff.
only niggle was the fact that in the bathroom when you used the shower it didn't drain away fast enough and therefore you had to cut your shower short or risk flooding the bathroom floor and possibly the bedroom too. we informed reception who said they would look at it, but following day still the same problem.
They found us another hotel and paid the difference
When arrived we paid greeted very kindly, got room key, got to room and someones stuff was already there. We had been double booked and the hotel staff found us another hotel and paid the difference
Cheat, cheerful, pleasantly surprised. Will definitely stay again.
Mattress was virtually none existent.
Nice , warm , welcoming, can't ask for much more. Look like there investing in the place to my renovating but don't let that put you off, it was being done very discreetly
Nothing maybe the renovating but it will benefit future guests and this great little b n b
Location, convenient breakfast, nice staff
Room was lovely, but didn't feel inclined to have breakfast there as the restaurant didn't look very appealing and the general state of the downstairs area was quite dirty due to the ongoing building works.
Really good value for money and even though the owner was renovating some of the rooms had no effect on our stay! Would highly recommend this hotel!
very close to city centre
No splash guard in shower
breakfasts were excellent. location ideal
showers were luke warm, bathroom smelly at times, wi-fi didn't work
Nice comfy room ,good breakfast , good location , helpful staff.
Building works starting before 8am that I was not informed about.
Décor of room and en suite was really good
Room was very small
The room in the Mews was very good but there was no instructions on how the shower or the heating worked.
Staff were poor. On our arrival no one said that there were building works going on, even when we were shown to our room. We had to search for the tea, coffee and kettle.
friendly, helpful staff small quiet but warm and cosy room with excellent en-suite facilities(and toiletries)great location close to the Minster
We had 4 days in York for my husband's birthday. We were in room 19 (upstairs) it was on the small side but lovely and quiet and still had all you needed. Literally a stone's throw from all the attractions/restaurants and pubs. Car parking at the back at small price per day. Lovely people and great stay...highly recommended !! :-)
Friendly, helpful staff. Good price. Great new room. Room clean. Great location, close to city. Good WiFi. Very polite builders (no noise or disturbances). Very happy overall, would recommend.
Not a don't like, just an observation - building work in progress at the back. Main hotel looking tired compared to lovely New rooms. Shower gel/shampoo, and biscuits not replenished over 5 days.
Very good location and room lovely and clean. Staff very polite but just left us to it which is how we like it!excellent value for money. Booked sort if last minute and was not disappointed. Thank you
We couldn't seem to get the heating right but I guess we could have gone back to staff if it bothered us that much...which we didn't so obviously not a big problem really. I don't know if the hotel was really quiet or other guests were like us and a king the most of the city. We didn't feel like we should bother the owner with requests for breakfast or drinks at the bar as there were no other guests seeming to use the facilities and didn't want to make them work just for us. Maybe a bit more selling of facilities would have made us use them ...that said...We like the laid back approach with no pre a sure! ! Thanks for a lovely stay xxxx
The bnb was really close to centre of town.
The sign for the B and B was very small. We walked straight past it. The room was cold when we arrived, I assume this was to air the room out. It was much warmer the following days.
Room was not clean - floors dirty and dust thick however linen and bed was very clean Our room was cold as beds by windows and draught++ coming in. Next night we moved to much better room but still not very clean - e.g. cups not clean - some still had liquid in them from previous occupant. Hair all over bathroom floor and cobwebs on ceiling.
Perfect location and will definitely be staying again
the location was just right, just a few hundred yards from the hotel was York minster and all the wonderful shops, didn't have to move my car once. The room was ok, warm and cosy tea making fertilities was included , we didn't eat in for breakfast or dinner so overall a good 2 night stay
Car parking is an issue, it is quite expensive, we did get a discount card from the hotel for £4.50 so that did help ,there was no double glazing so it was quite noisy at night with traffic and the occasional person shouting.
They must improve the lighting in our room. It was practically non existent.
The guest was my daughter, so I cannot say!
The second room we were offered was excellent. The room was spacious and warm. The beds were extremely comfortable. Shower room was clean and tidy. The complimentary tea coffee and biscuits were well appreciated.
The first room we were offered was in the back of building. It was draughty as there was cold air coming in from under door. The radiator was badly situated and no secondary glazing. We were offered a change of room.
The location is good.
The cups are very dirty. The price is expensive. A B&B hotel but ask customers £9/p for extra charge of breakfast. Not recommend.
This was booked well in advance and luckily as we'd stayed here before I knew exactly where to book for the 2 nights we stayed. I got in the room and unlike the previous room I stayed in 7 months prior and actually had wifi! The bed was incredibly comfy just wish I could afford to stay longer! My other half also agreed the bed was incredibly comfy and for 2 university students the price is amazing!
Unfortunately, the room was very cold and we noticed cobwebs. As the bathroom window didn't close properly the bathroom was forever freezing cold. If we walked near the wardrobe it rattled alike to an earthquake which although funny was pretty annoying. Other than all the above, everything was amazing!
