Lovely friendly staff. Huge bath towels. Comfortable beds. Excellent location for shopping or sight seeing. Best of all is Paco's restaurant which is the best hotel restaurant I have ever eaten in including many top London hotels. Paco himself is the perfect host. It can be very noisy at night with people shouting in the corridors and banging bedroom doors in the early hours of the morning. The music from the adjoining pub can also be loud at the weekend.

Facilities in room were good and evening meal and breakfast excellent. The prime reason for selecting it was its proximity to the location for a family wedding. Staff helpful. My only complaint was that my email from Booking.com stated 1200 checkout when reception phoned at 1130 asking us to vacate as they expected us to vacate by 1100, though they didn't make a big fuss about this when we explained the situation.

Chanced upon the hotel by accident because usually stay at the Marriott but the hotel was full! On my annual visits to Newcastle, will be using Gibside from now on.

The location of this friendly hotel is excellent as Durham, Newcastle, the Metro Centre and the countryside are all nearby. The view from the hotel of the Team Valley is lovely at night with all the lights showing. The staff on reception are friendly and helpful and the food in Paco's restaurant is fabulous. I wish we had such a restaurant near our home. Paco is a lovely man. The bedrooms are a bit small but the beds are large and comfy and the bath towels are big and fluffy which is something so many hotels get wrong. The hotel can get very noisy, one could say rowdy, at weekends especially on a Friday because of the integral pub. The breakfast is too expensive for us. There are many sets of steep stairs and no lift which for anyone of limited mobility could be very difficult.

We arrived on a Saturday morning and asked if there was any possibility of a room for us to change our clothes given that we were so early. The receptionist was so helpful and swapped our designated room (since it was being cleaned) with one that was available and booked us into it which was a great bonus to us and made life so much easier. We attended a function at the hotel and the service was very good. They even put out takeaway boxes for the leftover food. We also went to Paco's restaurant in the hotel during our stay and the food and the service were lovely. This was our second time at this hotel and we would definitely return. There was nothing I did not like, however, if I were to make a negative comment it would be to say that the hotel brochure in the room was shabby and could do with being updated.

Cleanliness of the rooms. I booked the hotel for my family, so I wasnt actually there. I have got feed back from the party as to their experience to enable me to complete this review. I booked 3 delux rooms which states on the discription they were double beds, however each of the 3 rooms were single beds. Now im not sure whether they were accommodated in the cheaper rooms. Please check when booking as you may be disappointed when you arrive.

Brilliant reception from all of the hotel staff throughout - warmly welcomed and even at midnight the service was with a smile! We dashed down just in time for breakfast but waiters and waitresses extremely pleasant and did not rush us out. Great stay!

We returned very late at night following a concert along with other parties. The bar staff made us feel very welcome. Unfortunately we had noisy neighbours.

Exellant for the city of newcastle location is a bit out of the way but a short bus ride gets you into the city with the bus stop outside the hotel, we booked a double and commentated when we booked please confirm this is a double room and the receptionist duly did just that, she rang us to confirm just before we left our house exellant service if you ask me. Had the worst night sleep I have ever had, next door to the hotel there is a supermarket and the air conditining units kept on going off and on all night which kept me awake . we were in room 207 we never go away to complain but this was a real pain in the prevebial, apart from this an exellant hotel quirky and clean would stay there again but next time on the right hand side away from the supermarket interferance

The best bit was the lovely food in the restaurant with the lovely Paco! The view is also fantastic from the restaurant windows at night with all the lights showing across the valley. Some of the bedrooms have this great view too. Only the noise from the pub at the weekend can spoil an otherwise fantastic little hotel.

Gibside Hotel is comfortable , clean , the beds are enormous, the staff are very friendly and polite. And my husband said the sausages at breakfast were fantastic. It is also very handy for transport into the city centre or Metro. Ask for a room at the back as the view is amazing!!
