David started breakfast early to accommodate my schedule.
Very clean. The owners are friendly & informative. We got great recommendations for places for dinner & a near by pub. The house is clean & neat. Good location in the City. We would stay there again in a minute! Street parking was just around the corner. We were traveling with another couple & we had a bottle of wine in our room one night before dinner, the 'house' supplied the wine glasses! There was a safe to use in the room. The couple seemed to enjoy having the guest house! That's nice!
Frankly, the bathroom was a bit cramped but everything worked and was clean.
Margaret and David, our hosts, were wonderful. Went out of their way to accomodate our schedule, and our need to chill our beer. Very good breakfast and most comfortable bed.
The walk to the Royal Mile was a little longer than I thought it would be. We are in good shape, so it was no problem for us, but would be for those who have walking problems.
Friendly owners,large rooms,good breakfasts,fast wi-fi.
Only on street parking, can be difficult to find a space. Need to take bus/ taxi to city centre.
David and Margaret great hosts. Good breakfast, not too far from town so was nice and quiet. We stayed in a twin room, very spacious and comfortable.
Extremely accomodating owners, nothing is too much trouble. I recommend the creamy porridge for breakfast. Great stay!
Warm welcome. clean room. Great location. good breakfast.
Everything about our stay was excellent and very disappointed that we did not book more than our one night stay
A very good location: near centre, but very quiet. A very confortable room in a perfect Victorian style; tidy, clean and cozy. A varied and plentiful breakfast: tipically smoked fishes, eggs, fresh fruit (wonderful the strawbwerries!), cakes and typical breads and many more... Many thanks to David and Margaret.
Some problem with the rattle of the bathroom pipes, but in a so charming old Victorian building someone cannot pretend modern provision.
We enjoyed a weekend stay at Gifford House in July 2014. It is ideally situated only a short distance from Waverley train station and Royal Mile. Upon arrival Margaret was very helpful and even let us check in early. At breakfast David was very helpful and still made us a full English breakfast even though we were late for breakfast. The room itself was immaculate and spacious. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The shower room was immaculate with a very powerful shower. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and are booking again in August to stay here to see the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I would definitely recommend Gifford House to anyone coming to Edinburgh.
Excellent hosts. Very Friendly and welcoming but not "in your face". Room was extremely comfortable and clean and breakfast was excellent with a wide choice to suit all tastes. Within walking distance of the Old Town and other historical sites and venues as well as a bus stop across the road for easy access to Princes Street and Leith.
Very friendly owners, rooms were a good size as were the bathroom/shower facilities. Lovely breakfast in the morning in a nice area.
Nothing to report.
Owners were courteous. They even put out a breakfast spread for us early one morning, so we could eat before we went to the airport to catch our flight. The location is perfect - close to the Royal Mile, and our rooms were comfortable and clean!
Quiet Location away from the bustle of the city but still within walking distance on a good day. We were served a great breakfast to set us up for the day. Absolutely beautiful room
Minor detail - noisy pump in bathroom
Friendliness of owners
Good location shirt walk into town , restaurants we wanted to visit were virtually on the doorstep which was a stroke of luck, would recommend 100%
Tv channels took ages to load but that is a minor thing tho
Staff/owners were great. Bus was convenient to get to the historic district of Edinburgh. Nice breakfast.
We happened to hit the hottest days Edinburgh has seen in some time, 80 F. They have few of those days so the Gifford House lacks air conditioning. That means you need to open the windows and we were on the street side so it was pretty noisy. Mattress was more firm than I prefer.
Big beautiful room. Good breakfast.
Difficult for baggage. Far from station and no elevator. Really worth it though.
A warm welcome with helpful information given about getting to Edinburgh etc. The room was lovely with two armchairs and it was a good size. I travelled with my 81 year old mum and there was no lift but Margaret gave us a room on the first floor so she didn't have to climb 22 flights of stairs. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice. 30 & 33 bus stop right outside which takes you to the centre of Edinburgh and a day ticket only costs £3.50
They were very helpful and also left out a cold breakfast when we had early tour and flight. The location had great bus access and the room was quiet with good view.
The shower was very small. Would be difficult for a larger person to use.
Remarkable hosts, great breakfast, good location and good rooms.
i arrived in a cold rainy afternoon but the room was heated by Margarit for my arrival. they were very kind, breakfast was good. the B&B is only 20 minutes walking from city center.
hotel in a beautifull small town, grate and delicious food at the hotel pub.
far away fron oxford. go by bus
Very helpful hosts who have a secure key holder enabling late arrivals to get in after hours. Very comfortable bed and a mostly lovely room with an efficient, clean ensuite addition, perhaps at one time a closet? Tasty breakfast, served quickly. Help with getting a taxi. Courteous and well-organized.
In Scotland, ground floor is not 1st floor, which I forget. So my second floor room was on what I would call the third floor. Lugging my suitcase at the end of a day of travel up 2 flights of stairs in a high-ceiled Victorian.... exhausting. Once in the room, I found the wallpaper to be rather over-the-top with large, magenta lilies. Perhaps true to Victorianna? There was a light over the bed that I could not figure out how to turn on so this meant walking from the light switch to the bed in pitch dark, as the curtains were closed in anticipation of early morning sunshine. The courtesy shampoo and shower gel or conditioner (not sure what they were) had impossibly small and light lettering so it was not possible to read what they were. And the TV has a circular blue ring on the frame that is lit. In a dark room, it is bright. None of these are serious critiques, and in total, I recommend highly this bed and breakfast.
