A warm welcome, very friendly, comfortable room, lovely breakfast, great location, will go back.
Great location, great service, great nights sleep, great breakfast, great room
nothing - all good
Nice hosts very pleasant and helpful.
Stairs to 2nd floor.
Excellent location Hosts made us feel most welcome Off-road parking Breakfasts really good
Really welcoming hosts in a spotless guest house in a first class location. Breakfast was great and on-site parking was an added bonus.
Nothing not to like about Gillygate Guest House.
Convenience to city centre. Very helpful owner (particularly with parking). Good breakfast.
Great location to old town York. The owner was very friendly and helpful as to where to go and what to see.
Advertised car parking not suitable if you value your car, or don't want to damage your rental. Bathroom was extremely tiny and uncomfortable.
Great location, room was very clean and bed was very comfortable. Felt very welcome and owners very helpful and nice, couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was excellent would be hard to beat! Would be booking again when we come to york :-)
Nothing bad to say!
friendly welcome and advise about York and its activities.
Location perfect for sightseeing around city. Friendly and helpful hosts. The bedroom we had was at back of house so quiet.
Parking area rather snug, but worked out O.K. The road outside is very busy.
Although on a busy road, the B & B was so close to the city centre that we didn't need to use the car. Off road parking is an added bonus. The B & B is run by a lovely couple and nothing was too much trouble for them, they made us feel very welcome. We would definitely go back.
If anything, it would be nice to have a radio playing in the background at breakfast
The taxi dropped us off in front of the red door at past 10 p.m., and were met by Joyce, who brought us to our room. She did not ask us to settle our bill that night, which we appreciated as we were exhausted from traveling by air and train for 20 hours. This accommodation impressed me for the attentive, friendly hosts (a young couple named Mark and Joyce) and the detail they put into the service: the hearty breakfast - a choice of the usual ham/bacon and eggs, but we chose to go local (smoked salmon and scrambled eggs; kipper and potato bread) plus toast and jam/ butter, fruits, yogurt and cereals, and pressed coffee. And the crockery was 4-star. The tray in our room had a variety of tea and chocolate drink, and chocolate; and candies near the entrance door. Internet access was free. They pointed us to 2 lovely restaurants – The Hole in the Wall and The Lamb and Lion, and gave us useful information – where to buy lemon squeeze, bone china, how to have ordered items delivered to the next city, Yorkshire history, and the heart of various attractions, like the Yorkminster and the Castle Museum. Our room was on the second floor where we slept comfortably. The bedroom was larger than what we would have gotten in a hotel at the same price point, and had a couch. We had 2 luggages and we were able to spread our things around. It was only the start of autumn but coming from the tropics, we found the weather outside cold. We went out in heavy jacket and scarves. After we got back, we noticed the heater in our room was turned on. Finally, the location Just 2 minutes easy walk to Petergate, which leads to Yorkminster, lots of restaurants and shops in the area – we were unable to try all the recommended places. Also, 2 minutes to the meeting point of the walking tour which assembles at 2:15 pm by the fountain across the Royal Theatre.
The bathroom was quite small, and the shower stall a bit cramped. Still and all, the bath was nicely supplied with bath gel, hair shampoo and hair dryer.
Friendly and helpful
my 82 yearold legs COULD do the 3 flights of stairs
Friendly and informative staff/owners. A good breakfast provided
Steep stairs to the rooms because of the type of old house. Good fitness training though!
it about 10-15 mins walk form train station, but worth the walk,it is very closed to the main attraction. the staff is very welcome and helpful, room is very clean and well decorated, the price is very good too, the breakfast is well manage, very special, promise you will like it
Problem with car parking, room double booked
Lovely welcoming owners, breakfast choice excellent with best scrambled eggs ever. Comfy bed, spotless room at the back where it's quieter. Free car park & so close to Minster area, will use again.
2 flights of stairs, but my fault, I didn't check.
Great location, Mark and Joyce are really friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
No bad points.
Staff we're very helpful and the room was clean and comfy
The attic gave us our own exclusive floor.
