Breakfast was good The room was too noisy. The road noise was terrible. Needed ear plugs just to hear yourself think

Very friendly staff who were knew when to interact as opposed to being in your face. Escorted to room and made to feel part of the family and not impersonal like other hotels I have been to. Well laid out room very cosy. The breakfast was freshly cooked and presented well. The staff again knew when to visit the table and always had a smile on their faces they too were enjoying the experience. I just could not find fault with this hotel (not that I was looking) I would recommend this hotel and if I am ever that way again on business would make it my first choice!

Staff is excellent, very friendly and helpful. Food was good and room very clean. Location good for stopover on journey to Cornwall. The room was too warm at night and windows could not be opened due to location close to motorway.

The sheets were clean, if ripped. Interior noise from the bar, the sloping floors, the general air of being run-down - tatty decor, dirtry walls and doors, broken furniture, badly fitting lino in the bathroom, strong smell of bleach everywhere, a bedroom radiator with faulty thermostat, ripped bed sheet, stains on the main cover, old tatty furniture, a headboard that rocked everytime you moved, poor quality evening meal, uninspiring menu, breakfast only served from 8.00am (way too late), and a manager who wasn't experienced in the industry and had only held the position for one week, who didn't handle our feed back well.

The location was ideal for Exeter and Chudleigh. Access was very easy and despite being adjacent to the a38 the double glazing was very effective. All our requirements were fully met by all the staff promptly and politeley.

It has a friendly atmosphere in the lounge bar area, the food was good value and served promply. The room was spacious, with a lovely big bathroom with bath and shower, the bed was very comfy. The toilet hadn't been cleaned. Just below our room was a very noisey extractor fan, which stayed on all night

Nice clean room and shower room. Comfortable beds. Bar and restaurant downstairs was also good. The room was very warm but a fan was provided in the sleeping area which helped greatly.

Nothing that was above the norm. The room was ok, shower (no bath) was really good (powerfull). Food was ok and about the price you expect near to a busy city. I always try to be constructive when writing these reviews, so nothing really too critical. 1) the price quoted went up by £3.50, but a quick e-mail to booking.com sorted that. 2) the electronic key did not work, so had to go back to reception (with luggage in tow!) to get a "normal" key. 3) breakfast could do with starting at 7.00am not 7.30am (but if you went down at 7.15-7.20 you were normally ok). So overall an average overnight away on business.

Good breakfast Room far too small, on the main road but windows did have triple glazing, but you could not leave window open as it was too noisy. Were not aware it was really a pub carvery Inn & not a hotel.

I arrived late, around 11.30pm, and I hadn't realised they're a pub with rooms, rather than a hotel, so I ended up unwittingly waking/disturbing the owners by phoning the number they'd put on the locked door. However, they were very kind and they showed me to a room, explaining that they aren't geared up for late arrivals, and we sorted payment in the morning. I think they've asked Booking.com to indicate that they have a cut-off time for arrivals, but it hadn't been updated on the website. The room hadn't been prepared because I wasn't expected but the bed was very comfortable, I had everything I needed, the breakfast was super- delicious, and the lady who served me the following morning was very sweet and friendly.

I chose it because it was a reasonable price and could offer us the two nights we needed. The service was rather offhand especially when booking in at reception.

Good value for money. Well placed for a visit to Exeter with all you need for a stopover. Reception staff were friendly, rooms were comfortable, clean and a good size. Nice atmosphere in the bar and restaurant with a very popular carvery. The hotel is very close to a main road but every attempt is made to minimize that and the feel of the hotel is warm and friendly. The bar/ restaurant staff think that poor service is fine if they deliver it with a cheery smile. It isn't. When I asked for a glass of wine I was given that the barman 'had only poured a while ago' which didn't fill me with huge confidence. Asking to book a table for dinner was treated as a huge inconvenience even though they confirmed that they would be busy and we ought to book. Then at breakfast we, and everyone else staying, were offered the menu but cheerfully told "just order the full English - it is easier for the chef" which made actually asking for what you wanted feel like you were annoying them. Full English then turned out to be lukewarm food on boiling hot plates much of which seemed to have been hanging around. Coffee was one cup of filter with no sniff of a refill. All lazy and silly as it taints a decent room, friendly atmosphere and a good value stay and makes one feel like an annoyance rather than a customer.
