We had an on suite overlooking the sea & pier. It was beautiful weather and we watched the little train going up & down the pier! We would have liked to go on it but time was tight. we had the windows wide open and the road was very quiet.

Was greeted very warmly by the young girl on our arrival. She couldn't do enough for us. Even gave us a choice of room! Breakfast was good. Was told we would meet the owner at breakfast. The lady at breakfast didn't introduce herself and only spoke to ask what we wanted to eat. A bit disappointed after the warm welcome the day before. The bed was incredibly hard and we had a very uncomfortable night.

Accommodating staff, non-judgemental or imposing. Great location for sea front Southend and town centre. Didn't get sea view and had to negotiate price. Were not given all info needed on entry for stay.

The Breakfast and breakfast restaurant was excellent, and the owner charming, and helpful. Great views from the terrace. The room unfortunately was a very small and dated(circa 70's style) single, with a loo space and shower cubical large enough for children at best. I'm sure there are double rooms that deliver for the most, I just got the box...so not recommended, unless your shrinking.

Absolutely first class place, with a caring touch - I felt well looked after even before I had turned up due to a very thoughtful phone message. The suite was exactly as I had hoped for, and fitted the bill entirely. The breakfast was just perfect, and tailored exactly to my wishes. I only wish I could have stayed the whole weekend - I am a regular visitor to SoS, and I will be making sure in future that this is where I stay!

Location The room was very dirty, and there were bugs in my bed. The same was said for my colleagues who also stayed at the same time. In fact one of them left and slept in his car. Wouldnt stay there again!

Clean, quiet and good value. Would be happy to stay there again. My visit was in November when it was quiet outside. That said, I think it is at the quieter end of the town which is why I picked it. Difficult to use the ensuite washbasin because of cabinet overhanging it. A minor issue compared to all the good points. Won't put me off returning.

This hotel was a charming hotel in a great location. It offers great value for the rate charged and a marvelous hostess. Really cute place within walking distance of good food and amusements. If you like a small hotel feel this is the place to stay. Since I was there on a slow night I was upgraded to a larger room at no cost, which is a nice touch. The breakfast was wonderful as well.

My boyfriend and I have travelled extensively and had a wide range of experiences in a range of 0* to 5* accommodation. Often we will stay in local places to get a more personal service and a flavour of local life rather than the more bland, generic hotel experience. We certainly were not disappointed at the Gleneagles. We found all the staff to be really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spotless, the breakfast was hearty and the view from our room was amazing. If you want a typically British seaside break this place will tick your boxes.

Staff and owners of the hotel were very friendly and welcoming, great location too only a two minute walk to the shopping centre and bars etc. Yet the noise wouldn't disturb you. Overall I would recommend to a friend and if in the area would stay again.

Everything. Of all of the 4 star accomadation I have stopped at this is by far the best. I was personally greeted and shown to my roomrather than just told. Bedroom was spacious, very clean and the view was very nice. Bathroom was very clean Not so much a complaint more of an observation, the WiFi signal was very low causing me to drop out from time to time

Close to the beach and great location for where we wanted to be Our friends were not booked into the hotel on arrival despite making the booking with the owners wife over the telephone. Owner was not particularly apologetic or helpful about no room availability or trying to find another room locally. We understand that mistakes happen but it would have been nice to have some help

“The friendliness and helpfullness of the staff was excellent. Knowing I was travelling solo, they made my stay as relaxing as possible; even choosing a table in the restaurant where I would feel comfortable on my own. The staff were very attentive. The view from the restaurant was lovely, even on the cold, windy, rainy day that I was there.” Julie, Redlynch, Wiltshire |
