Boasting an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, and modern rooms, this 4-star luxury hotel is located just off the M6 motorway.
Score from 316 reviews Very good
Staff were very unhelpful and need to be trained in customer service. Hotel dirty and dusty. Massively overpriced and should be rated as a 1 star. Stay in the inn on the lake hotel instead.
Staff were very helpful, hotel was clean with a great location.
Telephone in room didn't work. They offered a new room but the view was poor so we stayed put. Swimming pool was far too cold, and as jacuzzi is in the pool this was also too cold. Could only stay for 30 minutes as my daughter's lips were turning blue. Talked to staff who said they would turn it up but it was too cold all weekend. We weren't the only ones to complain. Wouldn't stay again because of this.
Location, staff and the beer!
Expensive for what it was and wifi was bad. Bad value for money really
Wifi and price and beds. Two singles pushed together is not a comfortable double bed
John in the restaurant was very helpful.
Food in restaurant good breakfast lovely first day but second terrible sausage cooked in fryer and rewarmed beans generator running all night outside window did not like the idea of dogs being allowed in bar were food was to be eaten
Room was old but comfy nice bathroom glad booked a superior room
A comfortable hotel, in an excellent location within easy walking distance of the Ullswater steamer. Good, powerful showers.
A very noisy fan in the bathroom, bedroom and wardrobe doors needed a bit 'sticky'
Great location for walking up Helvellyn, first rate accommodation, good food, friendly and helpful staff. Good parking and hotel facilities.
Wonderful views, friendliness of staff, general environment. My room was superb.
Food could be better, but it was a very busy w/end with the triathlon.
Stayedd for 3 nights and the room wasn't vacuumed at all
Loved the Location. We had a superior Double room the views of Ullswater and the surrounding fells were absolutely stunning. The proximity to the Lake and the steamers was excellent. Very quiet and peaceful. Facilities in the Hotel were good. coffee shop, restaurant, pub with outside seating area next to a stream. Swimming pool, we didnt have chance to use it but probably would have if we had stayed a little longer than 2 nights. The staff were extremely friendly and polite. Breakfast on both mornings was very good.
We were disappointed with the quality of the food in the restaurant and also in the pub. I orderd lamb with a red wine jus but it was very bland and just looked and tasted like gravy. The lamb was tough and fatty. My husband ordered chips the quality was poor! they were greasy and seemed like frozen chips cooked in old oil. The pizzas were very good in the pub but we definately felt the food was overpriced and not the standard we would have expected from a restaurant in such a lovely Hotel. We also felt that the Hotel could be improved by updating the decor in the pub downstairs with better and more comfortable seating.
The location Extremely dog friendly
Despite paying 10 pounds dog supplement per night, the Hotel policy is only to hoover the rooms every 4 days. They claim they will clean if particularly requested but we did not find this to be the case. Staff are poor at resolving customer complaints choosing to argue rather than appease the situation. Have been going there since 1999, but latest owners have let standards slip. Left this time with heavy heart as probably had my last visit. Cumbrian staff have all left so difficult to get local information from those who come from outside the area.
Bed was comfortable, rooms clean. Good breakfast and were helpful. Location absolutely beautiful and handy with parking.
Poor wifi, continued to loose connection Could have done with an ironing board with the iron as we were there for a wedding so had wedding attire to iron. This was not easy with no ironing board! Although the rooms are clean, they are quite dated in decor and I expected more for the money we had paid.
Felt that it was overpriced for the facilities provided.
Friendly staff, Excellent Restaurant with stunning views, Excellent bar, Great pizza, Fab beer garden next to the river, Comfortable room. Superb weather (not always guaranteed). We will be back!
We loved the proximity to the village and the fells
The views from the bedroom window. The hotel facillities were good. I enjoyed the swimming pool. The foreign mix of staff was impressive and they were delightful. The food and service was very good.
I was puzzled at having my Barclay card charged for £50. Is this normal practise?
Ideally placed for local walks and the Ulswater Steamers. Friendly and curtious staff. High standard of cleanliness of rooms. Last but by no means least the high quality of the meals in the Garden Room and excellent service by the staff.
Nothing to fault.
Comfortable Room and good food. Not too far to travel for Seniors!
Did not like to be asked for a Debit/Credit card on arrival. Booking had already been paid for. The intention was to pay cash for any extras incurred. Appreciate this is the modern way - but not for most 'Seniors'
How friendly staff were. Everything explained clearly. Hotel felt Safe & very clean. Parking excellent. Hotel is close to lake
Wanted a hot bath at 6.30pm. Looking forward to this alday. NO HOT WATER. Was Luke warm. I was highly disappointed . Phone reception. Waited 2 hours for Call back. At this point we were dressed & starved. Am shocked & disgusted at this. A hotel of this size should not have these sort of problems. I have stayed here befor & nothing like this happened..I could of stayed in a B&b for half the price if I didn't want a bath ...
location Brasserie Staff - very helpful
Did think it was quite expensive......
Very nice staff
Rooms are small and outdated
? runken crowd waking us up at 1.35 am yelling staggering into walls. They need to have a night porter and make it quite clear drunkenness is not tolerated. Paid 177 pounds per night couldnt get back to sleep for hours and we had a long drive the next day. The problem was sorted out but it should have been monitored in first place.
I like everything about this hotel. I have stayed here several times and have never been disappointed. I always feel at home here and feel that I get good value for money.
Having to leave!
It was a typical lakeland hotel, comfortable, good food and great views even when raining
No mobile signal save for vodaphone. This is not suitable for business users
