Convenient stop over, nice location, parking on street right outside, enjoyed breakfast, decent shower Very dated decor and fixtures, showing lack of investment over the years, you get what you pay for so is value for money.

Size of the room - generous. Staff - very pleasant. Thin walls and doors! 6 o'clock SUNDAY morning, someone - could have been coach driver or porter, woke people up in the same corridor as us, and we automatically thought there was something wrong involving our friends who were in the next room to us. On mentioning it to them at breakfast, they thought exactly the same thing.

At first impression a no frills hotel, fairly basic. But, soon warmed to the place as the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was first class and all in all very good value for money. The town itself is struggling to regain its past splendour, but nice enough for that and the location is excellent for exploring the delights of Mid-Wales.

Whilst the hotel is a little tired - tatty carpets, peeling wallpaper, and an undefinable smell in the bedroom - this was more than made up for by the helpfullness of the staff - nothing was too much trouble. Since the hotel is not expensive, as long as the food is good -it was; the rooms are clean and the beds comfortable - which they were - then these compensate for any defects. We would definately stay there again.

The evening meal excellent. The room was very big and therefore the heating was inadequate for it's size!

Homely atmosphere with friendly staff. Nice and close to the Metropole where the VSCC Light Car event was being held! Slightly down at heel although clean. Overheated corridors and water too hot - save some fuel and money by cutting down the temperature. Sort the noisy fan out in room 215.

we stay at the Glen Usk for the annual Vintage Car rally which is based at the Metropole. Our room at the Glen Usk was much nicer this year than last, it was bright, comfortable and of a good size. We find the staff very friendly and helpful. We are impressed with the breakfast which is the only meal we take at the hotel. Altogether we were very satisfied with our stay and hope to be back next year.

No frills, simple and comfortable accommodation with friendly staff in a delightfully old fashioned buidling, slighly worn at the edges, but what fantastic value for money! It was my third stay there in three years, I hope to be back next year. A softer pillow would have suited me better.

When you walk into a room and the first thing you see is the Carpet stuck together with gaffer tape, and then you look into the Batheoom and the sink is stained, and cupboards have the plastic covering chipped off, italy you think what have we booked into......never book again and we never recommend this place. I liked the poached eggs we had for breakfast....

Tired, needing refurbishment. The rooms were clean but carpets and fixtures threadbare; the beds felt like hammocks and the water ran brown from the taps. This hotel could be a very pleasant 3 star establishment but wallpaper is peeling, curtains are grubby and you would not want to visit again. A pity as the staf are friendly and clearly battling to keep a very old ship afloat.

The room was basic and clean ok for one night Very old fashioned . More suited to coach trips which seemed to be the main customers. Room badly in need of refurbishment. breakfast was tasteless and had burnt toast. Generally overpriced for what we got

It was fine for the night stop over on our journy. Would have to say it is excentric in every way, plus the decor is stuck in the 1960s with a distinct smell of damp. The whole place needs a redec, and update to the current decade.

I found the staff very amiable and friendly, the hotel was clean and tidy, but e tremely tired and dated, our room had peeling wallpaper, the headboards on the beds heavily soiled, and the bathrooms were very much in need of a revamp and a little less silicone, where there were obviously leak and mildew problems.

“Tony and Ann were very welcoming, tea and cake on arrival and very informed on local area. The house is lovely, real home from home and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Location for our weekend was ideal. Although next to A44 traffic noise was not intrusive at all. Will definetely go back if we are in the area again.” Debbie, Aylesbury |
