I always felt relaxed at the hotel and this is important if you are staying somewhere as a lone guest. The staff are very pleasant and I would stay here again in the near future. The poor reviews on this hotel are not justified it is a lovely Victorian building in a very nice town. The hotel room that I stayed in was good in terms of size (room 124) but the carpet needs a good clean - particularly in the bathroom where the toilet is located. The other aspects of cleanliness in the room were excellent and the bed was very comfortable. I believe cleaning the carpet would help the hotel in its reviews - other than that I would be happy to stay in this room again.

Although in it's heyday this hotel would have ticked all the boxes. Sadly it has now become a run down relic. The decor is very tired and the bedding was well past it's sell buy date. The pillows were badly stained and should have been thrown out years ago. There are not enough staff. The Sunday dinner menu was very limited and unappealing. We finished up eating across the road in the Metropole Hotel, which was totally the opposite, vibrant, fresh and excellent food.

The decor let the place down, and gave a feeling of it not being cared for, which I don't think was the case. Most of the staff, were helpful, but some (unfortunately front desk staff mostly) came over as being abrupt and quite rude, although I may just not get their humour. A coat of paint and some tlc, nothing major would greatly improve the feel of the hotel, which is in a prime location, and would also raise the morale of staff which seemed at best to be low. There's no doubt that in it's hey-day The Glen Usk was a very nice hotel, and there's no reason why it shouldn't be again, and even give the Metropole a run for it's money. I would think that the market is there.

Clean, friendly staff and good food. Decor was looking a little long in the tooth but it was not tatty or drab and was perfectly acceptable. I would definitely recommend - the staff were excellent.

Friendly and helpful staff. We had evening bar meal and breakfast which we found was very good. Decor badly in need of facelift and I asked to change rooms. Again this was dealt with efficiently by staff. Only had 1 night stay with friends. Unless improvements made I would not like to recommend it which is a shame as staff tried their best to please.

We thought the staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good . The terrace is lovely in front of the hotel and it is nice to sit there looking over to Temple Gardens. The location of the hotel is excellent.I The view from our room was really superb, and the room was also large. We also enjoyed having an actual bath in the room rather than just a shower. It was fun being able to go down for entertainment in the evenings as well. We would return to this hotel at a later date. The hotel has a slight faded feel about it but it is not something one cannot cope with. And the Ithon room where the entertainment takes place feels like a village hall. The hotel caters for large coach parties and there is always a bustle of elderly people (and the entertainment is geared to the older person) therefore it would probably not appeal to the young and young middle-aged person. It is probably suitable for folk of 45 years and upward.

Tired, needing refurbishment. The rooms were clean but carpets and fixtures threadbare; the beds felt like hammocks and the water ran brown from the taps. This hotel could be a very pleasant 3 star establishment but wallpaper is peeling, curtains are grubby and you would not want to visit again. A pity as the staf are friendly and clearly battling to keep a very old ship afloat.

It was fine for the night stop over on our journy. Would have to say it is excentric in every way, plus the decor is stuck in the 1960s with a distinct smell of damp. The whole place needs a redec, and update to the current decade.
