We stayed at the Glenwood as a overnighter for sailing from Dover the next day - very good location . We found the hotel to be a little tired in some areas. The beds though were very clean and the room although small was also clean and functional for our purposes. The manager and his wife were extremely nice and the Irish lady ( sorry didnt get her name ) was a tonic! We didnt sample a dinner at the hotel but the sandwiches were very nice indeed. All in all as an overnighter it was fine. Not exactly pointed at the Glenwood itself, but there wasn't a local pub for an outside drink that we would have gone in- but if you're there, go and say hello to the folks in the Druids Social Club in Percy Street 1 mins walk away, the kindest people you will ever meet.

Staff very friendly - room a bit basic but clean, and excellent breakfast - they would cook what you wanted to order, Was a bit worried when I first arrived, as it's in a bit of a run down area / the hotel is a bit of a maze, but actually, the hotel itself is fine, and the friendliness of the staff, great breakfast and overall relaxed atmosphere made up for that.

A great place for the children to play hide & seek. Louge area spacious. Does not reflect the pictures on the internet. Was expecting a modern hotel - with modern mod cons. The bedrooms need updating ie, showers / beds and the view outside my room was a shabby roof top with broken unused toilet and hand basin ( not nice). There was some confusion about having evening meals ( even though I specified this on the booking form) & called the hotel directly and was told meals not a problem. There was 1 lady serving meals and ours was a group of 8 so seemed a bit of a drawn out process. But she was very accomodating. No evidence of drinks bar and no entertainment. We were due to stay for the week but stayed for 2 days.

Vastly overpriced at 60gbp for a single room. The standard of the hotel is very low, it's worth about 20gpb for a single.

Basic hotel, the room was clean and bright. Not much of a view from our room. The staff were brilliant very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much. The food was good, cooked well and plenty of it. We had a good time ,the evening entertainment was okay and nice to have a bar where you could sit and relax if you wanted to. We stayed an extra night making 3 nights in all. The area was a bit run down, the houses need renervating but you did not feel threatened at all. If in Margate I would definately stay at the Glenwood Hotel again.

Hotel is cheap, and you get what you pay for. Would not go to Margate again. The place is depressing and run down. The area around the Glenwood is almost third world.

The water pressure in the bathroom was appalling, making washing your hair, or flushing the toilet impossible. The breakfast served used the very cheapest of ingredients and coffee/tea served was not pleasant to drink. TV had reception on only two channels, and no remote control was present.

Friendly reception staff. Clean. Ok breakfast. The hotel was covered in bunting. Was this left over from the Royal Wedding, the Silver Jubilee in 1977 or from ve Day, I wasn't sure.

Cheerful greeting at reception, plenty of communal areas and quiet location (apart from the seagulls which are to be expected at the seaside!). The surounding area is in the process of regentrification, with those houses which have been completed looking very impressive. Good breakfast. An odd hotel, being a conversion of several terraced houses. This has resulted in some pleasant ground floor communal areas but labyrinthine upper (bedroom) floors. Our stay (of only one night) was spoiled by a noisy group, until 3.30am. Although Room 213 was in a small "cul-de-sac" it seemed to suffer from being just off a main thorofare for guests.

The staff were friendly. The hotel is very rundown and in a dreadful area. We were surprised to still found our car in one piece the following morning! When pepople were coming in late at night, it actually sounded like they were in the room with you. Where the carpet had worn on the stairs, there was gaffer tape holding it together. The room didn't look like it had been decorated since the 1970's and there was a hole in the room door. The hotel is very near to a night club and we were woken up by the roudy people leaving and a fight outside our bedroom window. There was a really bad draft from the window my the bed, I dread to think how cold it would be in the winter. Parking is very limited also, so difficult with lauggage. However, the room and bathroom were spotless. The gents on the Reception were lovely and the lady cooking breakfast was so sweet - and the breakfast wasn't bad. We know we were ripped off paying £80 but knew every where pushed their prices up because of the Open and it was very convenient having a 20min to the course. If you watch the Hotel Inspector - this is exactly what the Hotel was like.
