Built in 1854, this hotel was once the High School of Stirling. Less than a 10 minute walk from the city’s historic castle, it has an AA Rosette-awarded restaurant and free parking.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the location is great for getting out and about in Stirling
The room we had looked as though it had been given a fresh lick of paint but that did not prevent you from seeing the damp on the ceiling and the fact that the paint and ceiling was crumbling into the room. The television is on the small side and wasn't even straight on the wall. The bathroom was disgusting and had to be cleaned as best we could with the products in the bathroom. There was mould in the tiles around the whole bathroom and the hot tap was broken. Considering the amount of money we paid for the night at this hotel we were expecting something a lot nicer than we got. It was on a par with a stereotypical cheap B&B from Blackpool. I have stayed in far better for a lot less.
Staff friendly, free parking, good breakfast, good cleaning, beautiful interior furniture
View from the room on the parking Wi-fi available only in the public areas
No internet connection in the room. This is an essential service in all hotels today.
We loved the friendliness of the staff . Reception is your first port of call , staff are helpful , welcoming and only too glad to help as we asked about a bigger room , it was no problem. Also rooms very clean.
There was nothing we didnt like .
Very comfortable and great location. We`ve stayed here many times and have always enjoyed our stay.
The Golden Lion was conveniently located in Stirling. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly.
Our traveling companions had no water pressure in their shower.
Bedroom Quality; poorer than average. Needs major updating
After viewing the room we had booked on line and finding it unsatisfactory the very helpful and pleasant young lady at reception quickly found us another room without any fuss. The breakfast included was also very enjoyable
Being given the unsatisfactory room in the first place #333 It was very "tired" and in need of refurbishment. A part of the ceiling was peeling and flaking from damp.
Bathroom was modern. Beds were comfortable. At one point none of the sockets worked in the room, but despite being a Saturday night, they were fixed when we returned to the room. Well done!
Basin shape in bathroom did not allow for a soap dish. Heater in shower didn't work and nowhere to put clothes other than the floor or to drag in a chair. Only hangar space - no drawers/ shelving in cupboard. One drawer in desk - but also contained the hairdryer. Decor a little tired in the restaurant and hallways
no Wi-Fi in bedrooms
Ideal spot for travelling to Glasgow
Historical atmosphere. VERY CONVENIENCE location to Stirling station, pubs, restrants and Stirling castle.
Bath tub's cover panel was so poor. I lost my happy bath time.
Beds were comfortable.
The whole hotel needs refurbished - it was quite run down.
It is a real hotel with atmosphere. Very central, only a short walk from the station.
The hotel was overall good, the staff were friendly and professional, and the bathrooms and bedding were clean. Furthermore, the breakfast was excellent.
I booked three standard rooms. One was large and excellent standard, whilst the other two rooms were small and less well furnished, although clean.
Liked the locality of the hotel
Didnt like where the room was. Booked in April for August & would of thought we would have had a better, nearer room
The location was ideal. Car park tucked away round the back, but reception provided details and map to get to it. Friendly staff. Good local knowledge of surrounding area. Locations to eat given as we didn't want to eat in the hotel.
Buffet breakfast not as good as we would have liked. Scotch cakes too soggy/greasy. Food wasn't as fresh and hot as we would have liked.
Car Parking involved driving back round a one way system from the entrance. No internet in rooms!! DO NOT use the restaurant close to 9pm - you are an inconvenience. Breakfast was shambolic. The whole hotel is run down and feels like you are stepping back in time
Food and ambience plus comfortable room. essy town parking behind hotel
No marmalade at breakfast and the orange juice was 'watery' (not what I would call 100% fresh squeezed. Restaurant was a bit noisy due to loud European tour group; probably a 'one-off'
Location and cleanliness was ok. Great location near Stirling Castle. Great shopping nearby. Lovely city.
Breakfast was very poor, and the waiters during breakfast seemed miserable and tired. The free Wi-fi did not work in the rooms, only in the hallways and in the reception area.
hotel really needs an overhaul
Loved the location; really appreciated the kindness of all the staff and quite enjoyed 'the old world charm' of the hotel.
I paid £500 for 4 nights- thought that was a little pricey since Breakfast was not included and WIFI was not readily available without staff help.
Staff and room good
Car park ridiculous, why keep allowing people in when there are no spaces????
Restaurant food was OK, but not great Various fittings in my room were broken e.g. toilet paper holder, door handle had been replace with a only a lock
Liked location, staff and value for money. It's a good hotel for one night or so, very reasonable for the price but you get what you pay for.
Interior is really jaded as you go up to the fourth floor. Rooms need decorating and modernisation. The common hallways are tatty with net curtains and odd carpentry, needs a paint, quite shabby. Bathrooms are good and have had recent update. No wifi as far as I could make out.
