My bedroom was not clean! There was an old jelly baby on the floor, when i had a shower in the morning it was dirty and had hairs on the wall :( The coffee and tea had just been thrown in the pot, there just seemed no effort had gone into making the room nice and thats not what i expect for £89 a night!
The two members of staff that i met were excellent, very friendly and could not have been of more help!
location of my room
the friendliness of the staff
Breakfast expensive for cheap produce no fresh fruit, only tinned frozen hash browns frozen The rooms were depressing & tired, paintwork poor on doors. Dinner duck starter bought in, cheesecake bought in tasteless
The gardens outside. Staff were helpful Mains at dinner Ox Cheek
The bath needs a longer screen for the shower, the floor gets too wet and this is unsafe
The staff and the locatioj
Some staff friendlier than others. WiFi stopped working. Shower door handle fell to pieces on pulling gently. One light bulb not working in bathroom.
Location Parking Grounds
It was near where we were going the next day
Room 70 in the lodge did not have a mirror near the plug socket in which to dry hair. An extension lead to the mirror would have been a help . Also we could not connect to wifi and reception would not answer phone to help or when we wanted to order a taxi.
Hotel had a wedding party booked for the same evening which meant the kitchen was closed for a inconvenient amount of time to underatke the catering. Non-party guests seemed to be second-class citizens with no importance.
Clean room, free WiFi, location and ample parking.
Staff were unfriendly on arrival, arrogant and unhelpful. The room was cold, heating did not work. I called reception to get a plug in heater, and they sent a male member of staff who came into my room and hung about plugging it in etc - whilst I was eating my hot meal from room service (food went cold because he was asking so many questions). It felt very intrusive for him to come into my room (I'm a female solo traveller) they could have left it by my door in order to not disturb me. In the end, the heater did not work, so I froze the whole night and could not sleep. The wool blanket on the bed should have been checked by staff, it had very dubious white stains on it, which I found disgusting and repulsive. IN the morning, from about 8am, the cleaning staff were shouting down the corridors, and making so much noise in the other rooms...it just seemed like the staff at this hotel have no respect for guests. I definitely would NOT stay here again, it was a huge disappointment.
The wifi worked, and there is ample parking.
Isolated in annexe Wifi didn't work Dull, limited menu. No atmosphere
Warm room and comfortable bed
Manner of Manageress - rude! attitude of staff but believe that was mainly directed by manageress... lack of variety of menu, only a set menu or bar food.
The gardens, location and breakfast.
Signposts could be better as drove past in dark but did find
Before arriving i called to affirm our arrival, and to book a table for the evening in restaurant. Assured all would be ok. On arrival, and once booked in, again requested the table for around eight. Assured there would be no problem. Coming down around 19.45, we were told that there was no restaurant that night. One party in one room and a conference in another. Once I explained the reason I had pre-ordered a table, (it was our 39th wedding anniversary). we were offered initially a "bar meal" then possibly a table in our room. Not what I had wanted, nor did my wife! Not in the least pleased with very poor communication between hotel and ourselves. Now please read the points we liked.
Once we had been offered a "bar meal" on tables not much bigger than a round garden table, or a table set up in our room, I guess that the staff realised how unimpressed we were. Into action came Hannah, who sensed our disappointment, who then contacted Adam, head chef, who came personally to apologise for the lack of communication, and bearing a small plate of canapes. He then offered a table to be set up in the lounge in front of a, soon to be lit for us, open fire, and a promise that we would be well looked after. We were then both treated to an example of fine catering, served by Hannah and Adam, who I will mention again, as hospitality at its best. We had a superb meal, and discrete but attentive staff who rescued the entire evening for us both. The situation should never have arisen, but it just shows how you can turn a complete disaster into something so very positive, with just a little thought and attention to detail. Hannah Kear and Adam, you are both a credit to the De Vere Venues group, and I believe your hotel and the entire group should be very proud of you both. We would like to thank you both and the other members of staff for making our 39th wedding anniversary so memorable.
The bed was stained on the underside throw over, the mattress protecter was badly stained with pink marks and was covered with hair ,this was photographed and reported to reception
The staff were very friendly polite and helpfull
the room was freezing cold
The meal in the restaurant my husband ordered fish he was severd a large fish finger about 8 chips
The room was clean
beautiful views and rooms were very welcoming
Rooms and privacy
Only that I didnt stay longer!
Arrived late and met with pleasant helpful staff...stayed in lodge twin room which was warm beautifully decorated clean and comfortable. Breakfast was superb and in a lovely setting....great place to stay!
Only single glazing. Room had not been completely checked as a light bulb was out (reception quickly fixed it). No decaff coffee sticks. No biscuits (as on previous visit). Only 1 chair for 2 people! Odd shower which, on turning off, went cold on me. Then also cold on my partner!
The quietness was great as we had had had a busy day. Parking close by helpful. The bed was very comfy. The TV excellent. The WiFi good. Hair dryer very good.
Very much a conference hotel. Service very average. Paid discounted rate which probably represented reasonable value, wouldn't pay full rate.
Pleasant public rooms and attractive grounds
