Clean, nice room, toiletries.
Noise from the bar.
We were able to check in early. Staff were very accommodating and pleasant. Good wifi both in room and in bar. Lovely comfortable room and great breakfast included in the room rate. Would definitely stay again.
Window did look out on to terrace but this wasn't a problem and there was noise from the bar below but we were aware when we booked it was above a bar so didn't expect it to be quiet so again no real problem. All noise stopped promptly at midnight and it was very quiet after and we slept well.
Close to eating places and historic areas, friendly people, lovely furnishings
Small shared area for breakfast
Everything really nice
The room was outstanding. The bathroom looked like it should be in an expensive catalogue. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were helpful and very friendly. My only possible criticism would be that CJs was closed
Friendly, comfortable, character hotel.
I was a bit surprised that the upstairs terrace bar was right outside my bedroom window. Lucky I was going to a party and didn't want an early night! I wanted to leave early on Sunday so missed my English breakfast. I'm not good with wheat so a continental on a tray just didn't suffice!
We enjoyed the care, even slight humour, with which antique furniture and fittings had been selected. The gothic theme was not over played but gave a pleasing continuity to the establishment. Breakfast good; fortunately did not conform to the theme.
One tiny point - a second reading lamp would be nice.
The room was beautiful we enjoyed our stay ,also the breakfast at cjs cafe downstairs couldnt have been better
Room was pleasant. Good breakfast
Terrace for bar at room window had people sitting drinking and smoke g until 11pm. Noise from bar below made it like trying to sleep in a disco, I think there must be a speaker on the ceiling directly below. After closing can still here the staff below talking and then they take the empty bottles out to dispose of them. Room hot and stuffy as can't open window as terrace outside, ventilation in bathroom poor.
comfortable bed nice bathroom good location in centre of town
Dirty and clean laundry left outside room over our stay. Not as clean as one would like, especially in common areas. No reception area and no staff contact other than CJs the café and bar below. In our opinion did not warrant the charge of £105 for one night.
Staff were friendly when we arrived.
Bedroom was next to terrace, with customers drinking and making lots of noise until 11pm. We didn't get peace until they had all gone. We had travelled a long way that day and just wanted an early night. Although we asked for breakfast at 8am nobody turned up and after waiting nearly half an hour we had to leave as we had an appointment at 9am. A disappointing stay. A credit for the breakfast was sent to us after we complained.
The staff were friendly & provided a good service.
Great room - well equipped, period furniture, felt well looked after Great location - heart of the town and characterful, ancient building Friendly staff Clean Quirky
The rooms are above a bar. The music was audible in the room so at 11.30pm I went down stair to ask for it to be turned down, which they did immediately and so I was able to sleep from then on. However, they obviously have a bit of a conflict of needs with the bar being a great local haunt over the weekend and the need for visitors to sleep above - worth knowing in advance. And I still think that the room, location and price make it worth getting a pair of ear-plugs and visiting.
food and cost
bed noise wifi
Unusually roomy with quality fitout of Edwardian furniture. Great staff and convivial, lively bar on the main drag of East Grimstead
Stair access to rooms and a lack of public space unless you wanted to sit in the crowded bar or your room. Inches from busy, congested road. Quiet views to church should have been a feature but too cold in late afternoon and did not have enough seating open. Rambling structure made it difficult for the staff to serve food quickly.
The room was very specious, clean and light. Good facilities, decorated to a high standard. Beautiful big bathroom. Breakfast served until 11 so ample time for a lie in.
On arrival our sink was blocked. The noises from the street and the bar downstairs were immense! and they went on through the night. But worse of all, we were not allowed to stay in our room an extra hour on the day of departure without incurring a £20 surcharge, when I asked for even an extra half hour, I was told I would still be charged £20 extra!
The location was fabulous and the staff very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent and the personal service very good. The room and bedding were lovely and clean.
The bed was so creaky that it kept waking me up and the toilet did not flush properly.
Great service! I had 2 breakfasts at 4 am.
excellent location in the middle of town next to many good food outlets. CJs cafe is also part of Gothic House. i came by train it was about a 10 min walk from the railway station
the room is close to CJs out door eating/dining area. shower was poor.
The room was fantastic, the website pictures don't do it justice!!
Well cooked breakfast. Nice bathroom.
TV too small - needs updating.
Our double room was very comfortable. Staff was very helpful and accommodating.
Plumbing made quite a lot of noise and Room 2 and 3 had windows onto the pub terrace, which could have been a problem in busy nights. Very saggy and uncomfortable beds in the twin room.
Excellent breakfast Very comfortable bed Lovely room
location, the room, its decor, great bathroom and very helpful staff.
poor wi-fi access
