As we were travelling asx a group of friends it was very nice to eat ands drink at a leisurly pace and not feel pressured into giving up our table. The decor in the rooms was a little dated and worn but this did not interfer with our stay.

We were looking for somewhere to stay near the docks at Southampton as we were going on a Mini Cruise. This hotel was ideal just a 5 min walk to the port. I thought the hotel was very clean, the staff very polite and helpfull. Nice and relaxing atmosphere.

The breakfast was very good The bathroom wasn't as clean as I would expect , dirty shower curtain and shower head and corners looking grimy.Generally I think the whole place is looking a little tied and in need of a refurbishment . tv picture poor quality and would expect flat screen with more channels these days

It is well situated for alomst anything in Southampton. As a hotel to link to a cruise departing from Southapmton it is just ideal and has the requisite standards to make it feel part of the holiday

It was relaxing, staff were welcoming and, because we have been using the hotel occasionally for the last 6 years, it was like visiting an old friend. Looking back over six years it is apparant that the hotel is looking a little tired. It needs a makeover/refresh. The standard of food at breakfast, while still good, is not to the same standard it was 6 years ago.

the comfy bed awful tv in room, like 25 years out o fdate, no mini bar stock, out of date with furniture, needs a refit. The restaurant for breakfast was poor, no butter for toast, no tomato ketchup for my guests either, not happy really

The location was the only real benefit to us although breakfast was good. Extremely over rated and very poor value for money- not even a flat screen TV in the room at £169/night- a disgrace in this day and age when service needs to be at the top of the agenda - the sofa stained and the shower cubicle was old and tired. A generally dated room and it was not worth it - I did feel the price was rather high for the service actually received given the prestigious ambience which the hotel likes to generate and was not really met by our experience.

Room was comfortable and staff pleasant and helpful Thought charging for a newspaper--given the price of the room--was remarkably tightfisted. Most (cheaper!) hotels I've stayed in provide a morning paper as a complimentary service.

All of it was great. The pool area and steam room were great. The view from our hotel was wonderful, upgraded to sea view with balcony. The food was faultless and the staff were impeccable.

The hotel is acceptable for the cost but provides no facility not expected and misses some. see below Like many of its type there are not enough lifts so that long queues develop at busy times. This is not easily rectified after construction but the ridiculous waits to check out is just a lack of service points at reception. If you wish to encourage express check out then copies of vouchers (charges to room for bar etc) must be supplied with the invoice. There was no mineral water in the room, either to buy or complimentary. The latter is standard practice in many 4 star plus hotels.Charging a credit card processing fee many times the actual cost is not acceptable when paying. This single reason would prevent me from using your hotel again.

As a previous hotel owner myself I feel qualified to comment that the De Vere Grand is now looking very tired and is badly in need of major refurbishment.

Convenience for what we wanted to do - room was starting to show its age but it was in good order & most importantly cleanly presented. The only issue I had was to do with the mandatory car parking charge that was embossed on my bill. I was asked if I was prepared to pay a £1 charitable donation, which I had no objection to but to find an additional charge for parking my vehicle in the residence provided car park I didn't think was a good idea. This additional fee charge was not mentioned at point of booking neither. I was willing to pay a added £1 to a charitable cause of there discretion but I didn't see any information which charity is there supported good cause & how much additional funds is added to that from the actual hotel. Perhaps there car parking fees should be put in the pot. You will not allow me to tick both yes & no so I will utilise this box to do so and I say this because of the comments I have already gone & made.I Stayed at the Greenwich De Vere it only has three stars but it was more up to date. If the location is what it is all about then fine but would I book again because I was enthralled by its charismatic charm and surroundings "no" but the staff were pleasant and friendly. The only other thing that upset the occasion and this was totally our fault was I ordered some flowers for my wife as it was wedding anniversary & we inadvertently left them behind in the room.

Friendliness of staff Good food and service in restaraunt. Warm welcome, comfy rooms. Only downside was repairmen in sauna area did not wear overshoes and although gym staff were aware of this they did not mention it to workmen.
