Relaxed atmosphere which was needed by us. We enjoyed the food and the service was good. We felt the the price of the food was a bit high especially the extra on the steak and the lamb shanks. Also because it was very windy our sleep was disturbed by the windows rattling.

Beautifull, historic building; comfort; facilities; spacious lounges & restaurants; friendly and caring staff; the venue (eastbourne, close to town and sea, close to gorgious Cliffs of Beachy Head); ample parking space on site; quality of food; lovely room and luxury bathroom; radio in room; roomservice. I stayed before in the Grand and I didn't experience this before, but I wonder if restaurantstaff & chef did get orders to put on some sort of dining course race. As soon as the amuse bouche was finished my wife and I got our starter and when we just had finished this, we got our sorbet. My wife noticed that the main course was already waiting and I had to ask the waiter to hold on for ten minutes or so before serving this main course. What I'm trying to explain is that dining at The Grand should be a relaxing, heavenly experience (and it is: the food is excellent, the staff charming and professional; the Garden Restaurant very beautifull) We like to enjoy our dinner in a relaxing way. I should point out that the second time we had dinner I asked staff not to bring the courses too quickly and they obliged. We had one of the best dinners ever.

Porters and doormen friendly and helpful. Eastbourne is fine, but The Grand is disappointment Standard room next to noisy vents and kitchen food smells. Had to be moved. Reception staff indifferent. Too many afternoon teas for non-residents left very little lounge seating for residents. Ran out go newspapers in lounge.

Th Hotel itself is quite lovely. A Victorian Hotel, it has a lovely ambiance. Victorian era friendly guests would call it luxurious, Hi-Tec guests would call it dated. We had a wonderful stay here. Very close to the beach, excellent indoor and outdoor pools, and fine dining - I would certainly recommend it. The cream tea was delightful, although a pity the Orchestra was not playing when we stayed. The Mirabelle Restaurant was spot on, as was the service during tea and generally in the hotel. The only thing I could offer a negative comment about was the service at breakfast. The service generally during tea and dinner was exemplary, but at breakfast the staff were not up to standard for a 5 Star Hotel. We ate in the Mirabelle Restaurant at dinner so breakfast was the first experience of the Garden Restaurant for us. Although we will certainly stay at the hotel again, we would give the Garden Restaurant for breakfast a miss.

The standard of service at reception and bar areas was excellent. In the Garden restaurant too much time between courses especially before the first course arrived.

From the arrival the service was 5 star as I did not even park my own car the doormen did all that. We also got a complimentary upgrade to a suite which was amazing. The hotel is pure luxury everywhere and very british which is nice. I had arranged the chef to cook some halibut which I caught on a trip to Norway last week and he did it 3different ways which was superb . There are so many excellent things about this hotel there are too many to mention.
