All meals excellent, service good, position good. Our stay completely ruined by a very very noisy room caused by generators outside our window that went in to turbo at around 4am. Too much effort at that time to get dressed and packed to request a room change. What made the situation appalling was that on checkout we were told they were aware of the problem for certain rooms - so why take our money and put us in them! Sleepless night.

Lovely communal areas, excellent staff, great breakfast and super position. Valet parking expensive but very easy and efficient (you get what you pay for). Very quiet. The room was pretty small and basic for the price.

My husband and I were very dissapointed with the hotel in general, we were told when we got there very casual that there were no parking spaces and we had to go back to the horrible car park we had just paid £7.00 to come out of! The room was not up to our standards I.e the shower sprayed everywhere to vanity cabinet was all scratched, the mastic around the bath was old and we were right outside a big tanker for water or heating or something and the floor boards were extremely creaky outside our room so we didnt get any sleep. They also didnt put out enough tea, sugar and milk (although did replace straight away when I complained). We have stayed at "The Grand " in Eastbourne which was fantastic and had leisure facilities and they also parked our car free of charge! We chose to go to "De Vere Hotel Grand" as it has a great reputation and did not realise the leisure facilities were not open till we got there. I would not recommend this hotel as I feel it needs a complete over haul, we walked straight passed it as it looked so old and dirty from the outside! Very Very dissapointed im sorry to say. Although we must say the bar and staircase looked lovely

I loved everything about this hotel. We had a room with balcony with sea view - absolutely glorious. The breakfast and restaurant was excellent, waiters and bar staff friendly. The wonderful staircase meant that we didn't want to use the lift. What a lovely (and romantic) change from the usual corporate hotel chains - a whole different kind of superior.

We had a fantastic time at the Grand at Brighton for my wifes birthday. They made us very welcombe with a birthday card in the room , Happy Birthday in Chocolate on the top teir of our afternoon tea cake stand, with the waitresses wishing her a happy birthday at each meal. For a special occasion this is the place to go. It's expensive but worth it. The hotel has been refurbised and is truly fantastic. We had a Standard Double room which was clean and tidy on the 4th floor witha great view and little road noise.

very small room, worn carpet, hole in bottom sheet. peeling paint in bathroom, slow to flush toilet.surprised that breakfast was buffet service, expected a 4 star hotel to have waiter service. was hoping for quiet evening in bar listening to the grand piano but drowned out with dozens of loud young people standing around drinking.

Very good value for money compared with other Brighton hotels. Big room, comfortable bed and tasty full English breakfast. Staff very professional and location excellent. Could do with a bit of refurbishment in places but old style hotel so to be expected.

Breakfast was superb and the bar was stunning. The inside of the hotel is a fantastic sight to see. There were too many small, but apparent flaws in the room: pillow case missing, itchy towels, bathroom door semi-functional, large piece of paper near the air conditioning unit. Not the luxury that is expected.

Nice old fashioned majestic hotel, the staff were really friendly and helpful. Right on sea front, the bar was a nice quiet retreat - perfect getaway for the night. The hotel decor is beginning to look tired in some places, however, this didn't detract from the stay.

Great breakfast, great luxury bed, great lounge area that was relaxing and welcoming. Disappointed that there was no swimming pool nor day spa, which we expected of a hotel of that quality and reputation.

My love for the grand hotel was resparked after not being here for 10yrs. Even though we paid a resonable price the room was way above expected. Saw lots of bad reviews on this and other sites and very glad I ignoed them. The bed was huge and so was the breakfast. I would recomend going down for breakfast rather then use the room service breakfast as that was a tiny portion. Also was dissapointed when turning up at 3:30pm was still not able to check into my room

Only had breakfast and lunch at the Grand Hotel. Breakfast was poor, buffet style, had limited choices and some food was cold and the layout was confusing. However, some dishes were available cooked to order, but was warned by the waiting staff, there would be a delay. The hotel was full, so this may be an explanation. By contrast the lunch was beautifully presented, extremely tasty and chosen from an excellent menu. The waiting staff were polite, efficient, helpful and made usefull suggestions. The decor looked a bit tired.

We liked the location on the beach and close to the Pier and the Lanes. Everything was within walking distance. The breakfast buffet was very good and offered a lot of choices. We also ordered room service one evening for dinner, and had afternoon tea in the lounge, which were both excellent. The cleaning service came at odd times during the day. We had to wait to get back into our room after breakfast one morning and the next day, we were napping in the afternoon so the room did not get cleaned. The hotel is also fairly expensive for the amenities. It is not modern, which is fine and we didn't expect that, but we do expect when we pay about 200 GBP a night to have hair conditioner and an extra bar of soap for the shower, as well as a modern hair dryer that is not attached to the desk drawer.

My sister and I took my elderly parents for a break. They have limited mobility but we had a room for them by the lift which made access easier. The stay was comfortable and the staff excellent - very friendly and helpful. We also booked on Sunday night for my brother and his children to join us for breakfast on Monday which was all ok with table organised in advance for 7. The door staff were also very helpful. My only criticism is that there did not seem to be bathrooms that catered for lack of mobility and were also accessible to the lift. Apart from that the stay was very enjoyable.

The Bar staff were the only staff that made you feel welcome - reception staff we found to be rude and unapproachable. When we checked out they did not even ask if we enjoyed our stay. Probably because they knew what the answer would be. Did not like our stay the rooms we were shown when booking was not what we were given. The rooms was dirty, grubby - disgusting. We could have got a better room at a B&B - After taking this up with reception we were advised there was one other room we could have - which we took - but it was no where even close to the picture / description we were given when booking. All in all UNHAPPY.

Lovely old hotel. It is very busy but that due to its great service, popularity and location I would imagine. I read the other reviews and was a little concerned that the Grand would be run down. It is a little tired but it is old and has an enormous turnover of visitors, I can’t imagine how you could start to maintain this place. Our room had a great balcony with a sea view, was a large and very grand. Yes it was a bit tatty in places but it’s a bit like expecting your Grandmother to look like a super model. You won’t get the same grace from the latter as the former! We stopped as a treat and it certainly was. The staff were marvellous and without being overbearing gave immaculate service. Breakfast was splendid and served most tastes. All in all a lovely stay, long may the Grand be so! Parking was painfully expensive in this area, not just the hotel but all parking.

Position of Hotel and attention of staff were excellent. Breakfast excellent too. Room had everything you could want. Only comment I would make is that our room was noisy all night. Possibly the heating/air conditioning unit outside - kept me awake. Could not see thru the windows to find out what it was as they were opaque glass!!!

I liked the grandeur of the hotel. The staff were very attentive and I could not fault them. The food was also very good. Particularly the dinner for the Ball on 4th May. Location for the beach and shops etc very good. I thought the hotel was looking tired and could do with a refurb. Our room was very small, looking out on a air con unit so could not open the window for the noise. I was surprised that no saucers were supplied with the tea making facilities, this was definitely a lowering of standards. also had to plug the kettle in on the floor so making tea was not easy. I did not complain because we were only staying overnight. In future I would make sure we had a better room

I was sadly disappointed with the hotel. As a solo traveller for many years I expect to get either a room by the lift shaft, near the air conditioning, extractor fan or by loud music. My room was close to the extractor fan, the view from my window was so poor the bottom panes were frosted over. There was no refrigerator. The hotel is not recommended for the solo traveller. One day hotels will stop treating the solo traveller as a second class citizen.

The age of the hotel, it has lots of character, although the hotel looked a bit tired in places and maybe could do with a bit of tlc. In our bedroom ther were bits of wallpaper ripped from the wall in several places, however on the whole it is well maintained and clean. We would definitely visit again hopefully the weather will be kind to us next time as the rain didn't stop all weekend!
