I think in this day and age, every hotel should be offering free wifi. I found it really vexing at how much their wifi cost...10 pounds per 24-hours. I was there 7 nights...I'm not likely to spend $160 Canadian on internet services. I just tapped into the free wifi at the Montague across the street. Also, the price of continental breakfast was absurd...20+ pounds for a buffet of cereal, stale pastries and canned clementines - and don't even ask the price of an English breakfast. Again, if I had dined there every morning, breakfast would have cost me almost $250 Canadian - imagine! When I saw pictures on the website of the back garden and atrium, I thought to myself, wow, I'd love to have a meal there; unfortunately, it wasn't available to us, closed down for a private meeting. Also, we sidled up to their on-site bar and I asked for a traditional British cocktail - Pimm's Cup - and the bartender had no idea what I was talking about - that's eyebrow raising. We also tried to order off of their large room-service menu, and everything we had chosen "wasn't available," with the exception of sandwiches with the crumbling potato chips you'd find at the bottom of the bag. These might seem like nit-picky items, but the culmination of them left me with a lack-luster impression of the hotel and I wouldn't choose it again. They just don't maintain the standards of a lot of franchise hotels.
What originally sold me on this hotel was it's proximity to the British Museum and the fact that it wasn't on a busy street. It looked like a fairly small hotel comparatively, with charm, including the unique golden lift, four-poster beds and back garden. The beds were quite comfortable and the cleaning services were great. Staff seemed overall nice, however, did run into a couple staff members that I can only describe as "awkward"...where they barely spoke above a whisper and seemed timid.
Needs an upgrade a bit tired
Location in a quieter street
Shampoo and bath gel smelled as if it was a cheap and nasty brand. Bar staff were very unhelpful and brusque - we (two females) were ignored whilst serving two other parties in the bar area and finally we had to go and ask for drinks at the bar - staff in the bar clearly didn't know how to mix requested drinks and struggled with the change from a £20 - not at all friendly. Decor was tired and faded - would not go back
Reception staff were friendly and helpful, room was warm and cozy
The room above had very creaky floorboards
great location. Quiet and spacious
The staff could not do enough to help. Comfortable rooms, in a lovely part of London
I had a room right next to the elevator, I cd hear it moving up and down all night, other than that everything was cool
Tea making facilities would have been nice in room but wasnt really a problem, would definately recommend.
Warm and very comfortable room, very quiet at night as just away from the main roads.
Tea in room - too many herbal and not enough english breakfast teabags, whole UHT milk not semiskimmed
Friendly service, warm cosy room, dark at night with nice big blind and padded curtains, attractive place, able to leave bags before and after checkin /out, quiet, next to museum
We arrived for our trip earlier than the stated check in time of 2pm and the receptionist wasnt going to offer, until we asked, for her to check if any rooms were available early, so we could deposit our bags and freshen up. We thought that wasn't very customer focussed.
The location was fantastic!
The bar was the most overpriced id ever been too. Ended up buying the same wine 15 pounds cheeper elsewhere.
The bedroom was lovely, comfortable and smart, impressed my girlfriend aha! Staff were lovely, printed directions and gave strong advice.
Breakfast seemed very expensive so we didn't bother (min £17 each)
The quilt is not comfortable.
It is located in the central of London, and the room is very clean.
My room upgrade wasn't processed when I had paid for IT
We had tickets booked for the theatre in the afternoon but we couldn't get our room until 3pm they let us leave our bags and let us come back to get changed but we had to get changed in the cramped toilets instead of getting ready in a room that was the only downer on the place and it's only a minor thing everything else was brill
It was a brilliant hotel staff were friendly hotel room was clean and lovely
food was appalling Staff untrained in every aspect Language barriers - took four attempts to get correct food ordered
Some of the staff require English lessons as they cannot understand English. The public bar are was really cold.
The room was nice although I prefer rooms with a walk in shower.
Small rooms Small bar Price of breakfast Noisy at front of building Failed to recognise difference between superior room and executive room.
Bed very comfortable Great location Friendly staff
Room was cold and took awhile to warm up. Bed mattress was uncomfortable, small tv.
Good size room, lovely hot shower, good sized mirrors
Got taken next door for room.
Breakfast was extortionately expensive even at London prices! So went out to eat instead.
Too hot in the room! Despite windows open on arrival and left open all night
Location beside the British Museum, ease of access by tube, quiet street, pleasant room and public areas
The wifi that was NOT frère...
The location, the price.
We booked a double and a twin room only to be told on arrival that the twin room was in a different hotel two doors down (the Grange Blooms Hotel). We should have been told this at the time of booking. This could have been an issue if the children were younger.
Very clean, spacious rooms.
