Our room along with staff, restaurant and hotel decor were excellent. When combined with fantastic view of lake, woodlands and being next to a ferry terminal our short stay was near perfect.
The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. The hotel is well situated and is a lovely establishment of refined character. The food was very good and the ambience of the restaurants was delightful.
Location Bed comfort and size Traditional manor house feel
Not cheap Car park very busy but staff were very accommodating to park and move car
This was our first stay in York and we were very impressed by the Grange and would book again, The staff we very helpful and we had a courtious call to our room on our first evening to check we were happy with the room. Although it was an old building the decor and rooms had been modernised but did not detract from the the older style. I would recommed staying in the Grange to anyone
we had to leave too early wished we had booked a longer stay
Good value at 79#. Good location to old city. Very nice room especially for what was billed as the small double.
The Grange was a lovely hotel to stay in. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The standards of cleanliness were very high and the facilities in our room were great. The fridge was a nice little luxury for a hotel room. The decor was nice and bed was comfy.
Our bedroom was a bit on the small side and more lighting would have helped for putting make-up on etc. Other than that, everything was brilliant.
The staff were very helpful and cheerful The food was excellent Nothing was too much trouble Bathroom was clean and modern Nice to see fresh milk in the fridge
Carpets could do with a clean Generally the furniture was a little shabby.
The room was clean, staff helpful and the location was quiet albeit a short walk from the centre. We enjoyed the choice of food for breakfast. We ate our evening meals here also and the food was delicious. Would certainly stay again when in York.
Looks fantastic Helpful friendly staff Comfy bed Well equipped room Sensible price
5 minute walk to the centre of York, comfortable bed and clean bathroom with great pressure in the shower.
A little noisy in the mornings although having two windows helped.
Excellent location. 10 mins from the Minster. We had problems with the TV and the hot tap in my room. Both were dealt with promptly. Reception staff very good. Real milk in the fridge.
Slow service in the brasserie. On the first morning I had to go looking for someone to request toast and on the second, our order for tea was completely forgotten. Tea bags weren't replenished on the second day.
When we checked in we got upgraded to the suite
Quietness and comfort
Room was bit too hot and stuffy
The hotel staff really shine. This place is a cozy, gem in a country that struggles with customer service. I felt like a queen in this hotel. Thank you, Jennifer!
I didn't stay longer
I was absolutely delighted with this hotel. It was very easy to find and offers free parking, just a few minutes walk from the heart of the city, which is fabulous. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Although the building is quite grand, it had a very homely feel. I would stay there again with no hesitation and would definitely recommend it. I thought the room rate was very reasonable, considering the unlimited free parking.
Nothing really. There is no lift, but there was someone on hand all the time to carry cases up or down the stairs. It is right on a main road and I thought that the noise might be a problem at night, but it didn't actually stop me sleeping. Overall, no complaints whatsoever.
Brilliant staff excellent food good location for Central York. Overall highly recommended
Room was ground floor and facing the main road. Was noises. Probably the worse room in the hotel. Don't use room 8
The location was excellent
Not once did any of the staff attempt to talk to our group, no one asked if we how our stay was, no pleasantries at reception, no smiles from reception staff, no one asked at breakfast if everything was ok with our breakfast. The breakfast was below par, cheap beans. The stains on our room carpet was disgusting. Never again, not for the money we paid.
My room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. I even had a small fridge which had fresh milk and bottles of water! The bed was also big and comfortable. Nice breakfast and friendly staff!
The room was extremely comfortable and well appointed and the staff obliging, attentive and friendly.
In common with most of the older 'character' hotels, there was no Air Conditioning.
Comfortable room and bed great choice at breakfast and central location.
The location of the hotel is perfect for walking into the city centre which only takes 10 minutes.I was impressed by the style of the hotel being traditional but well maintained and stylish. The room we were allocated was the king supreme room which was spacious and had the added bonus of a TV at the end of the bath and free Wi-fi.I would recommend this hotel to family and friends and fully intend to stay there again.
The only negative to our stay was the hot breakfast which was not a buffet style but you ordered it from the waiter. When my hot breakfast arrived it was hot but consisted of what you would expect on a full english breakfast but only single items apart from the 2 pieces of bacon, one being streaky bacon and the other piece of back bacon.
The location was ideal for exploring York. The restaurant was very good. Breakfast was excellent.
The room was very small. In my view it was a single room which was being used as a double. We could only access the bed from one side - the other side was tight against a wall which was very inconvenient.
Helpful and friendly staff
Poor soundproofing of walls Conversation in adjoining rooms easily heard
Quiet atmosphere, individual nature of the hotel and easy access to the center of York
The restaurant service could improve to match the excellent food
