The outside looks splendid and the interior decoration of the stairways and reception is reasonable. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good; a modern presentation of the typical English breakfast. No airconditioning. Wasn't dirty, but wasn't sparkling clean. What we thought would be a classical, antique hotel ended up looking a bit old, shabby and threadbare. Many rooms overlook a busy main road. Way overpriced.

The bathroom was very well designed and equiped. The breakfast was excellent. The New York Grill was poor. The service was slow, including having to wait 15 minutes for soup starters when only 3 other people were eating. The meal was also small in portion, average in taste and expensive. I gave up waiting at the unattended bar for a drink and also had to wait 5 minutes for breakfast, only eventually being attended to, by first going to the reception. Overall, I was very disappointed with my stay at The Grange

The location was excellent and the rooms were very comfortable. There are good reidents' lounges but the hotel lacks a good cocktail bar. Generally speaking staff were very helpful and pleasant; however they were put into an impossible situation as a result of bad management and planning in the restaurant (see comments below) We only stayed one night and that was a Sunday. On Sundays the main restaurant is closed so we asked at the reception, when booking in during the afternoon, to reserve a table for us in the basement Brasserie Restaurant for dinner. When we came down to the Brasserie we discovered no reservation had been made. Space was made for us but unfortunately we were then told that a large number of items on the menu were off because"they had had a very busy night the night before". This seemed to us a poor excuse; we felt it was due to poor management and planning; what was still available on the menu was not very attractive to us so we left the brasserie and found somewhere else to eat. Potentially this is a good and pleasant hotel but the events in the brasserie rather spoilt our visit

My wife and I were delighted with the warm hospitality and excellent service offered by the staff of this hotel. We found checkin/out quick and efficient. Our room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. The Grange’s decor was period and added to the calm relaxing ambience of the hotel. So glad that we don’t have a problem with stairs!

It is obviously an old building that has been operating as a hotel for some time. The charm of the old is still there with your modern conveniences. Location is perfect for sightseeing around York as it is less than a 5 minute walk to the main attraction, York Minster. The staff are very polite, personable and effecient. Nothing was a problem. The food at the resturant attached to the hotel was excellent for both dinner and breakfast. There ae two "Drawing Rooms" great for meeting as a group to have a drink or just sit and read a book. I was skeptical when walking into the hotel that I had choosen yet another old english hotel that was over priced and dumpy. Not the case! You'll enjoy it, it takes you back without the inconvenience.

We booked small room at the hotel as we did not intend to use the facilities very much as we had a a family event in York and spent most of the time with them. The hotel itself was very good well located and the staff were friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was excellent.. All in all it suited us perfectly. The only thing was as we were on the top floor and there was not a lift, the stairs were a challenge.

The four staff members we saw were friendly and efficient. The hotel is faily central but far enough away from the noise. Bed linen and towels were fresh and clean. A good hotel if you want a base for sleeping and freshening up. The advertising on the hotel's website oversells the hotel. It is shabby and in need of a deep clean; eg the carpets are stained and look dirty. Other parts of the hotel look like the cleaning is being skimped. Our basin did not drain, although this was fixed the following day, and the wc needed multiple flushes. We intended a romantic break but the implied cosseting luxury is missing.

Very friendly. Good food. Nice and comfortable. Fresh milk for tea in the fridge plus free bottles of water-nice touch. I can highly recommend the hotel unless you cannot cope with stairs. There is no lift. Service was a bit slow. After ordering breakfast on the first day it took about 20 minutes (at least) to arrive. When it did so people who had ordered 10 minutes or so after me also received their food. On my second day breakfast arrived within five minutes. With regard to my evening meal on the second night the first course arrived within a reasonable time but the main course was at least half an hour later and warm rather than hot. The restaurant was not busy. However this did not detract from our stay and we will be staying and eating in the hotel in the future.

We like the traditional country house style of The Grange. The architecture, hall and drawing rooms give it a slight 'Downtown Abbey' feel! It is a great little escape and we can pretend to be a little grand for a day or so, but it also has a warm and friendly feel, not intimidating at all. Its just like being invited to a friends large country family home. Escapism I suppose. Nothing really but if we must, perhaps the magazines in the drawing room could be a little more appealing, maybe some back dated issues of gardens illustrated, Home and garden that sort of thing. Maybe some honey on the breakfast buffet table(perhaps there was I may have missed it). Perhaps the reception desk could be, restored or improved some way, it looks a little sad.

We enjoyed our stay. Bedroom very comfortable.had all ther amenities. The evening meal we had was good value. Coffee in the "open Fire " lounge was delightfull The only thing to let the hotel down was the breakfast!! . We knew we had to wait as the menu stated everthing was cooked freshly to order... But not so.,,, Bacon hard, all the meal was cold and the poached eggs were under cooked and still slimey. After the long wait we did not complain and ask for another meal as we did not want to have another long wait!! We did comment on departure and the receptionist made and note and said she had had several same comments. If the breakfast can be sorted we would definately have a reurn visit. The only complaint we had was the Breakfast. Had to wait... ( so every thing could be served fresh !! ) bacon hard and cold, beans only warm, poached egg not cooked well..it was slimey ! mushroom was barely noticed as it was a slither/slice! Sfter having to wait so long ... we did not complain at the time as we did not want any furhter delays!

The location was good and some of the staff were pleasant and friendly Service on the first night was poor amidst many complaints from other customers. Our bedroom was cold and was beginning to need refurbishment. Used crockery was not cleared from the lounge (had to move it ourselves) Some food which was ordered did not come seemed to be no one in charge. Also expensive for what we got

“The Minster hotel has really improved since our last visit 3 years ago. There has been extensive refurbishments and the room that we had on our visit was first class.
