The best feature of the Grasmere Red Lion is its location in the centre of the village. There are many walks from the door and the hotel is also on the main 555 bus route through the Lakes. The breakfasts were excellent and the restaurant service was very efficient. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The small leisure centre was very convenient - literally two minutes from our room. The shortage of parking spaces - when you find a space you need to hang on to it. The general size, standard and decor of the room (considering the high tariff) was poor (Room 217). We have stayed in B&Bs of similar standard for half the price. The bed and pillows were not very comfortable and the room was too warm, even with the heating turned off (in February).

we have stayed at the redlion on a number of occasions sometimes as a couple but also with our extended family. The staff at the redlion are always helpfil and have gone out of their way to ensure that our specific needs as afamily are always met. We have a grown-up daughter with learning difficulties who we often bring with us and they always ensure that our request for an appropriate room is met. thankyou so much your help it definitley makes our breaks more enjoyable. The fish at breakfast

It was my first time travelling alone and I felt very relaxed and comfortable in the hotel. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and the position of the hotel was great. All in all I had a very relaxing break and would certainly use the hotel again. Parking could be a problem in the height of the season

Nice location The receptionist was very poor, we were not told about facilities, restaurant etc. The pool was freezing and there were young children running in and out of the sauna and steam room, leaving the doors open, so even they were chilly. The room was fine although the previous occupants toothbrush was still on the sink! We wouldn't stay again.

The reception was warm and friendly . All the staff were very pleasant, friendly and did not mind passing the time of day with us , so that we felt appreciated . Although we only spent a short time there, they soon made us feel at home so we were able to relax in the pleasant surroundings. The staff always conducted themselves in a very professional manner and are a credited to the hotel - they could also share a joke ! Room 207 . Even with no heating on in the room it was very hot , to the point that we slept with the window wide open and lay on top of the bed . An observation - in the bath room a hand rail on the wall to assist older persons getting into the bath to shower , or turn it into a wet room without the bath .

We had a fabulous stay. Room was very clean, lovely view, quiet and comfortable. Restaurant staff were efficient and food was delicious. Swimming pool was quiet and relaxing and a real treat. The hotel is located centrally in Grasmere which provides a perfect base to walk, shop and chill out. Totally recommend this hotel to everybody.

Our room and bed were very comfortable. The staff were all friendly, the bar and staff were excellent and so were the dining room staff. The food in the bar was good and plenty of it. We didnt eat in the dining room at night but the breakfast selection was wonderful. The only thing I wasn't too happy about was the toast always arrived on the table long before the cooked food so most days was cold by the time we got to eat it.

Position for touring the Lake District Ideal for families with pool etc. and large airy Lounge The slow service in all areas and insufficient parking - despite the web site claiming it was unnecessary to book and there is no dedicated area for Blue Badge Holders. I would recommend the Hotel with these reservations.

The location of this hotel was ideal. The service was excellent and the room was very clean. The only criticism would be the outside noise early morning if you have a room on the front of the hotel but otherwise this is a lovely hotel in all aspects

We thought the location was ideal as we are very fond of Grasmere as a centre having been coming for about 25 years for short periods of time. We used to stay regularly at Moss Grove when Martin and Diane were there. We feel that the Red Lion was a good substitute being small enough to feel friendly. This time we travelled by train and bus - a first for us - and so Grasmere was good both for walking and for using the regular bus service. We liked being able to eat next door at the Lamb as we often find meals with three courses or more too much for us. We hope to be back in the Spring. I should add we have always found Best Western Hotels good to stay in.

I liked the ideal location. walks in the surrounding fells started straight from the door.I Liked the pool (temperature could be a touch warmer), a decent size for a hotel with adequate changing facilities and towels. Best use of space was made for the Trimnasium although I did not sample that or the sauna. The Hotel has an overall comfy/cosy feel to it which I found relaxing and the food in the Lamb Bar was good.I felt it was a bit pricey for a 3 *but having said that there are a lot of amenities for a 3*. My only suggestion is that robes could be provided for moving between your room and the swimming pool.

“As soon as we entered Heidi's Lodge, we knew we would enjoy our stay there. It was welcoming and cosy and the staff were very friendly but not intrusive. We were in Room 4 which was very pretty and quaint. We did have to remember to bend down, so as not to bang our heads on the beams as we are both quite tall. There was a little balcony with a lovely view of the hills. The bathroom was spacious and had under floor heating and a splash screen television which was a novelty. We will stay there again and I recommend it.” Kay, Pennington, Ulverston |

“The hotel staff were its best asset. From the moment we arrived every single member of staff went the extra mile to help. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels but none of them would come close to the standard of service given by the staff. I broke a bone in my wrist whilst in Kendal and the staff did everything possible to make the rest of our stay as comfortable as possible. We will definitely be visiting again soon. ” Stewart, Norwich |
