It's in a great location with bars and restaurants close as well as the Castle. The room was good with an excellent bathroom and interesting decor
Location, friendly reception, décor, and close to good places to eat.
Breakfast was a bit of a let down, a few tables in what felt like a public bar. Traveller (two l's) in Q1 above.
- perfect location for going out, sightseeing and eating - very friendly stuff - integrated pub - nice rooms
The funky room and a great bathroom nice details of real ground coffee and tea cakes
Terrible noise in room from live band in bar below until after 1am ok if you dont need to be up early for a flight. Should be made clear on booking.
Generally what was in the room was good. Bed very comfortable
Bedroom, for the money, was ridiculously small. Bed enclosed on three sides. Staff more interested in their mobile phones! More customer care at breakfast (for the price paid) would have been appreciated. Breakfast very basic. No toast/jam offered. We had to ask and even then no jam came.
decor, relaxed atmosphere, location
Location and facilities great
Double room well had bigger shoe boxes
Bed was very comfortable and pillows excellent decent coffee/teas provided in quality and quantity location was quiet-relief due to rugby weekend breakfast staff in pub extremely helpful good walking location to Princes Street various Museums etc would have been very useful if coming for the tourist bit rather than seeing relatives
overbright light in bathroom no good for make up poor light by door mirror no room to work if I had brought my laptop room either very loud fan or cold if fan turned off. Insufficient bedding -slept with coat over duvet and cardigan lack of anywhere comfortable to sit outside and including room encouraged to spend on breakfast in advance- actual cost of choice paid for separately 40% less than the encouraged pay in advance £10 so I am glad I did not pay in advance room very small and cramped -suitable only for very short stay without much luggage Wi-Fi in rooms rather than just uncomfortable reception area would encourage a repeat visit
Liked that everything was in walking distance of the hotel. Food, shopping, tourist attractions and nightlife. Staff in the hotel were great! Nothing was too much bother.
Didnt like that we had to walk up 4 flights of stairs to get to our room. Also that the rooms are meant to be soundproof and theyre definitely not. Also our room was alot smaller than expected.
Good location on the Grassmarket. Being this area dies mean food and drink nearby congress at a slight premium. You'll have to go a bit further afield for something more reasonably priced?
Only negative was the size of the room - very small!
Bedrooms were small but really nice. funky design and staff were lovely. I work as a maintenance supervisor in a 4 star hotel and i am always looking out for broken lights and faults in all areas but i found this was just as good as our hotel. so for the maintenance team id like to say GOOD JOB :) ps LOVED the chocolate mallow! very nice touch :)
paint could have done with a touch up in some areas but over all its a grand hotel :)
Great hotel, great value for money. Really helpful staff!! Will be back.
really good location awesome room lovely helpful nice staff
listening to awful karaoke till 1 on monday morning haha
Good central location, good sized rooms, nice vibe.
Great location, within walking distance to most popular places in Edinburgh. Really friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable beds and clean rooms.
The location and the friendly, helpful staff. The quality of the linen and towels. The quality of the bathroom and shower. The quirky children's comic decor.
The size of the room, which admittedly was described as "cosy" was perhaps just a little too cosy. Having to ask for elements on the breakfast menu which weren't automatically provided.
The style of the hotel very different and nice. The staff and the breakfast was excellent
The hotel is situated in a fantastic, lively (but not noisy) area and is only a short walk from the royal mile and castle. There are loads of lovely delis, cafe's, bars and restaurants around the locality. All staff we're very accommodating and the cleaning staff are brilliant (the room was spotless every day and tea/ coffee and sweets replenished each day too). The room was quirky and charming and had all the amenities you could ask for. We noticed that there was a good mix of people staying in the hotel (young, old, from overseas, couples). It's perfect, whatever your needs. We will definitely be back :)
The only issue (if you could call it that) is that, by design, the lift only goes up to the 1st floor. If you struggle with stairs, make sure you ask for a 1st floor room.
room greatly designed, very clean
too small, almost clastrophobic, wifi didn't work in the room
The location was excellent I liked the quirkiness of the decor - and the way they gave proper sized cups and a kettle for tea / coffee. The bathroom was really modern and the shower excellent
I stepped out of the shower to realise there were no towels in the room! There was no phone to call reception so hubs had to go down whilst I shivered. The towels that did arrive had hair on them I was on the 2nd floor but it was so noisy outside from the pub below, though this noise did eventually stop about midnight this was way past my bedtime on a worknight A bit of a rabbit warren to reach the bedroom The wifi just did not work at all in the room The double room was the classic 2 single beds zipped together
Location of the hotel was great - once you got there and got rid of your car. The room decor was fun and interesting and the amenities were thoughtful (great coffee and tea, good snack, great toiletries).
Finding the hotel was difficult as streets are not well identified. We pulled over at one point and called to get directions and the girl who answered the phone could not help despite us identifying our current cross streets. When we arrived, she had told us there was parking directly in front of the hotel however it is a pedestrian walkway. She then told us we could park in front for free but only until 8am at which time we would have to come out and pay the meter - who wants to wake up and get dressed before 8am while on holidays? She offered no assistance with luggage and did not acknowledge that we were the guests who had called lost. Her directions to parking were terrible - she sent us to a "cheap" lot that ended up costing just as much as the normal lot (which had better security and was easier to locate) because she was misinformed of the fees (for the record, the rate is only until midnight - not 24 hours from the time of payment). We got lost trying to find parking. It was difficult to access our room with luggage as the hallways are congested and windy with stairs, even once you access your floor via elevator. When we checked in, we were told nothing about the hotel (i.e. breakfast, etc). Shower was difficult to operate. Temperature was impossible to control and therefore the room was very warm. Rooms were not sound-proof as identified on their website. Very disappointing.
No lounge area
Lack of signs to find bedroom/reception from level 3
location couldn't be better! room was quiet (5th floor) and great fun! staff very helpful!
one of the beds was too near to the wall, so I kept bumping my head.
the Dandy theme - - Dandy annual instead of a bible...
breakfast - stale croissant
