Review score
Score from 323 reviews
“ The closeness to Exeter St Davids Station and although there was a 15 minute walk into the city centre, I did not mind that as I could have taken a bus, taxi or even a short train trip to Exeter Central. But I chose to walk. ”

Location of the hotel. Room was a bit shabby as were large parts of the hotel. However it was quite cheap so just about reasonable value.

Good location in relation to Exeter St Davids Station. Just across the square. Good selection of real ales in the bar, which is why we selected this hotel. Period property which is obviously 'tired' but reflects it's history as a railway owed establishment, catering for travellers. An acquired taste but I would stay there again. Limited menu in the bar. All a bit 'tired'.

I was very disappointed to be honest, being a young couple with a daughter, we fancied a night away on our own, upon arrival I was a bit surprised to find that the exterior of the hotel looked old and tired, the check in was okay, gentleman was polite and friendly, upon arriving in my room I was shocked, the curtains were hanging off the rails, there was damp all along the bathroom roof, the tiles along the bath were either missing, loose or cracked, the lamps had no lamp shades, now I know this is only a 2 star hotel, but is it hard to take a cloth and wipe the damp? Or hang curtains right, or replace the tiles, all in all I was not happy and will be writting to them with photographic evidence

Lots of hot water. No welcome. I had to go into the bar to ask for assistance. With a shrug of the shoulders the barman did come through to reception to book me into my room. I was given my room key but no other information. As a women on my own I felt very uncomfortable and most unwelcome

A very bad experience!! I slept very badly due to excessive heat in my room (No 8) I slept through most of the conference the next day! The radiator blazed all night. I removed the duvet from the cover But that left me with a sheet, which was insufficient. In the end I put on my clothes and covered myself with the sheet. I had had a very good experience at the Great Western Hotel in Oxford so I was profoundly disappointed.

The price was the main reason for staying at this Hotel as we needed to be very close to St Davids Station. The staff were very helpful and friendly and my request for a 1st Floor room was dealt with efficiently. The Hotel was very tired with cracks in the walls in places - it needs tidying up. The carpets and telephone junction boxes were also well worn/exposed in places and one of the beds in Room 15 seemed to have a slight list though I still slept well. On a couple of days there was too much oil on the breakfast plate. Despite this however, I have still made a further booking as the staff are very helpful and the location and price are what we need.

Great deal, but this smell - maybe it is common for the old tradicional english lodge:). The building has also its own pub downstairs - with many locals.

Located right beside St David's Train Station. Room was very small and dated. However I feel I got what I paid for- and the room was warm and everything in it worked.
