Hot English breakfast was served. Hotel is located in the heart of reading.
You can only order something to eat. There is no open buffet for choosing yogurts, fruits cheeses or etc. There is no phone in the room. Toilet was not clean. Hot and cold water are separate.
Convenient for us
Noise from next door into the small hours. I slept well with ear plugs in!
The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was well-cooked, but no menu, so it was difficult to respond to the request for an order in the morning. The linen was fresh and beautifully pressed. Luckily, the WiFi is brilliant and secured so I could watch the Masterchef semi-final after all.........
This hotel is not in its first flush of youth and is looking decidedly careworn. There were water stains on the ceiling, the shower cublicle was rusty and mucky, the carpet and walls were stained and the very small telly did not work. The room I had was overlooked by a meeting room (which was in use until 10pm) so I had to sit with the curtains drawn, and this side of the hotel is bang next door to a music venue. There was also a pool match on downstairs in the bar, so not much peace until after closing time. There was no heating in the morning - so a bit of a chilly start to the day despite the miniscule oil radiator that had clearly been supplied with this in mind.
Staff were very friendly. Hope breakfast good.
Decor a little rundown and tired. Pub underneath - a little noisy but tolerable.
Good value for money - good location if you need to stay in Reading
Don't try driving there - traffic in Reading is a nightmare
Very central location. My room was changed to second floor which was much quieter.
No lift so needed help with my case up two flights of stairs. Had to walk through bar area to get to reception.
Room was surprisingly better than expected, good size and comfy bed, would stay again and v friendly staff to, thks
Reasonable sized room for single person. Comfortable bed, blackout curtains; clean bathroom. Room plenty warm enough on frosty cold night. Heated towel rail a bonus, for warming clothes overnight for a cold morning. Breakfast good. Close to train station (12mins) & bus routes, to Reading night life & shops. Very good VFM.
Bit of a rabbit warren, up & down stairs to rooms on 2nd floor. Could do with new carpets & a lock of paint. Throbbing bass from pub music carries to 2nd floor, but stopped around midnight.
nice staff, lively weekend
The disco next door and the noise
Staff is extremely helpful Food was really good Location is perfect if you have business in the city Bar is great
Wifi connection is terribly slow and not very stable
Freeview TV was a plus and the bathroom was lovely. Breakfast was really good and check out was easy.
I am pretty sure the staff who checked me in were stoned! I didn't understand a word they said! No offer of helping me carry my bags up two very large flights of stairs (no lift) and I had to ask for my bedding to be changed because there was dry blood on it. Kettle needed replacing - limescale everywhere!
Great breakfast Carpet stained, but room clean
Thin walls Carpets need a good clean! Room up 3 flights of stairs, no lift!
close to city centre. fast wi-fi great breakfast value for money
could not close window, too much noise from the ground floor terrace.
Location to bus routes and Reading Centre
A large triple room with comfortable beds and best shower ever. Breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious. Would definitely recommend
the price was good and the location was very close to fun things.
the inside of the kettle paint was peeling so it wasn't useable, you needed a key to get through into the hotel which made it safe but you also needed the key to operate the room electrics so one person could not go out by themselves.
Loved the four poster bed and big bath.
The carpet was a bit stained and was quite loud due to the busy road outside.
The location is good and easy to find. The room is big enough. But it was a bit noisy at night as it is a bar downstairs. Overall good hotel!
A very miserable lady was on breakfast duty, she was not very pleasant to any guests. A simple 'good morning' or 'there you go' when you receive your breakfast would be nice!
being so close to restaurants and shops. Great building.
window in room 29 was broken and continuously open - walls could do with a lick of paint. Would love to own a hotel like this and do it up.
room good space and English breakfast. Clean and quiet. Excellent staff.
No fridge inside room, heating was off in the morning.
The hotel was good. The Breakfast is nice and there is a pub in the ground floor.
The internet was not very fast.
LOCATION,BREAKFAST AND COST EFFECTIVE.
SOMETIMES ONE CAN HEAR THE NOISE FROM THE BAR
Hotel has a charming atmosphere with a good mix of Dickens displays, English pub culture and guest services. Good value for money. Easy access to Heathrow via Railair bus 1 hour. Reading has good train services to major UK cities. Thames River and shopping centres nearby.
Stairs will present some travellers with problems ie no lifts
The breakfast was adequate.
The advertisement was extremely misleading in that it gave the impression that the exterior of the building was as attractive as the interior. The inside was nothing more than a dingy pub with a few rooms upstairs. Our room was covered in dust, there was residue in the bathroom. Worse, we didnt get a wink of sleep because we were not told the building was a pub and so had thumping music playing into the night. Thank God we didnt bring kids. It was just dreadful.
