Greenwoods Hotel Spa & Retreat  

Good value for an overnight stay. Breakfast was excellent with good quality bacon and sausages. We also loved the very comfortable bed.

The bath and shower handles were very stiff and fell off. Sink was too high to wash in and we weren't that short.

A friendly welcome and helpful as we had to leave our cases because we arrived before checking and were attending a wedding at Stock Brook Manor. When we returned at 11.30pm our keys were ready and again we had a nice welcome. The room was a pleasant surprise and was very clean and comfortable. I attended the wedding with my mother and so as her mobility is sightly reduced, the lift was a real bonus. The breakfast in the morning was excellent and the service was very good. The staff pushed tables together for us as we were with other wedding guests and it was an altogether good stay. The lounge looked very inviting and I will certainly return for afternoon tea just to get the chance to sit in it. We had to leave at 9am because of prior engagement otherwise we would have enjoyed staying on until check out and would have certainly taken up residence with newspapers in the lounge for a couple of hours. Swimming pool

The main complaint was the quality of food in the restaurant. For dinner there was a very limited selection. If this was to ensure quality then I could understand. However the food was extremely poor. The fish (in the Fish and Chips dish) that I had appeared to have been pre prepared and purchased frozen. Breakfast was then worse. Having been told by the couple on the next table that there food was cold - my food was then served cold. Worse still the couple who complained were then served cold food a second time. I was also surprised that the room had no air conditioning and that I had to go down to the spa to get a gown. Given that I only stayed one night it slightly lost the benefit of having a gown.

Location and supposedly upmarket clientel.

Could not get hold of reception when in the middle of the night water poured through a light in the ceiling eventually gave up. Shortly after seemingly in a room above it sounded like someone was being murdered screaming shouting swearing crying and what sounded like furniture being knocked over. This went on till 4.30am with seemingly no intervention from hotel staff. We choose this hotel as a special end to our wedding day on the friday. We were very dissapointed that such a good wedding day ended like this.Our wedding night was totally ruined and it is not even a cheap hotel. I have sent an E.mail to them expressing our dissapointment and asking for a refund of our money but have not yet heard. I have stayed in all kinds of hotels in my career but never experienced a night as bad as this. I can honestly say I would never choose this hotel agian or recommend it to anyone.

We stayed at Greenwoods because it was the location chosen by my cousin for her daughter's wedding reception. We did not use the spa facilities. Greenwoods is located in a nice village, but for the fact that a busy main b road runs through the village. We enjoyed visiting the windmill which is open only on the afternoon of the second Sunday of each month during the summer. Its machinery is all still there and there are helpful guides on duty. We also followed a village walk of about 1.5 miles recommended by Greenwoods.

Great facilities, we were late checking in and very grateful to hear that the pool was open to 11pm!

We were in Room 12, which was excellent. I also had adult members of my family in other rooms and they were complimentary. I prefer the rooms in the original building to those in the newer wing and would ask for those rooms on returning. The swimming pool and facilities were better than I thought, I had not used them on previous visits.

The room did not have any shower gel or shampoo, which it should do as this is standard in all classes of hotel these days. I wanted three rooms and the hotel website rates were very high. Without going through the booking agency I may never have booked this hotel, and I am glad I did.

Spacious, lovely gym and pool.

I was not impressed with some aspects of the room: the fan wasn't working in the bathroom so the room was very musty smelling when I first went in. Also, the phone wasn't working and my remote control on the TV wasn't working either. As I had no telephone, I had to go down reception to sort out why I couldn't get the TV to work. And, the service in the hotel bar was extremely slow. The place was very quiet and I only ordered salad, but it took at least 50 minutes to come. All these faults left me with a negative impression of the hotel, unfortunately.

Luxury hotel with very well appointed rooms, perfect for our wedding night.

The price of the breakfast was rather exspensive and only served until 9.30 on a Saturday morning which I found to be rather early

Stanza non pulitissima, moquette, personale incompetente: ho chiesto un Phon e la fattura, per il primo li ho messi in difficoltà e la seconda non sono riusciti a stamparla, hanno sbagliato ad inviarmelo via mail e non riuscivano a farcela recapitare via fax (richiesto a tutti I costi da loro).

The spa was lovely and the hotel itself was very clean and beautiful.

Our room was above the spa and horrifically hot. The windows were bolted shut so it was like being in a sauna. The air conditioner was so noisy and very ineffectual so we got no sleep that night and it took all hopes of romance from our stay. The toilet only flushed every so many flushes too. As we arrived very late at night the night receptionist was a bit clueless about answering questions so we just put up with the problems and complained the next morning. We were given a free breakfast as compensation but I still felt very disappointed to spend £139 for a night that was as uncomfortable as camping in a tent.
