Amazing location, and fabulous staff, who went out of their way to make our stay absolutely perfect.
Nothing at all!
Everything. Our second visit, unusually it was as good as the first. The staff are a joy, the breakfast delicious, the rooms clean and comfortable and the location the true gem of the experience. The house is interesting as is the history behind it, the grounds are wonderful, a paradise of tranquility.
The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable Location was great - it is part of an ancient estate. Exterior of the buildings and grounds were very imposing - almost regal. Breakfast was superb although the sausage was a bit gamey for me (still, had two to make sure).
The quality/standard of the large rooms, is not up to most people's expectations, given that we're all used to relatively modern accommodation. The fact that we were given bottled water and warned not to drink from the bathroom's tap – because of a threat of lead contamination – was a worry to us, given that we had two children under 8-years old with us at the time.
Location, Friendly Service, Perfectly Cooked Food,
To Much Heat In The Bedroom
Its a beautiful place to stay, the staff are welcoming, the lady who served us breakfast on 26th in the restaurant was superb, polite and hospitable. highly recommended.
We were here for my wife's birthday hence having no phone network was a little issue( as a lot of people were trying to ring)
Gregynog is excellent. The facilities and staff are great. The hall is a very old and elegant property. If you like history and antique furniture and surrounds then you will love this. The bedroom furniture is a bit quaint but the appeal of the building, common rooms and surrounding gardens make up for any inadequacies. Such a lovely restful weekend was had by grown ups and kids alike. Hide and seek was second to none. Loved living like historical rich folk. Highly recommended.
great location nice grounds value for money had a decent size room with on suite, being able to look around all the rooms in the Hall was good libary music room etc.
no tv ,but thats not the end of the world poor wifi,as the Hall doesnt do evening meals the nearest pub was about 2.5 mls away and the taxi cost £16 so another £32 ontop of the evening we wasnt told this was how much taxis were out there as the Hall booked the taxi for us,might be worth mentioning
We really like the originality of the Hall & well kept gardens. The size of the bedrooms were good & very quiet, so a good nights sleep was possible. The staff were accommodating & approachable. Food was fab!
If I could make any improvements, I would suggest the bathrooms are up dated.
Looks good from the outside Staff we met were doing there best - like the crew on the Titanic.....
Astonished by some of the other reviews...... It was not worth £70 a night by any standards. No restaurant in the evening and nowhere to eat close by - expect to drive or bring food with you. Room I had was tiny - open the door and you were in bed. Bathroom was very tired with black mould around the silicon seal - shower was a dribble. It had a youth hostel quality feel about it - certainly not up to hotel standards. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special. There is a bar - a very unique place ! Noisy guests going out for runs at 4am and again at 6am ...... Apart from the above - spot on
Location and character. Breakfast in the courtyard café.
Quality of bedrooms and bathrooms. We viewed a few rooms in the courtyard and took the least disappointing. A little refurbishment wouldn't go amiss. A few pounds spend could make a huge improvement
The quietness and the surrounding.
We only got to stay 1 night.
The lady in the shop is a credit to Gregynog, she's so polite, happy and made us feel very welcomed. The house and gardens are fab.
750 acres of beautiful parkland and woods to explore. You could spend most of a week without leaving the grounds, in a weekend we only saw some of them. Individually cooked very good breakfasts. Good centre for exploring central Wales and borders.
TV had only one channel and WiFi only good in cafeteria, but this is a place to get away from these so only a small criticism.
The walks around the grounds were inspiring. I walked for two hours and felt perfectly safe on my own. The formal gardens were impressive, particularly the sculptured hedging. The building is very important historically in terms of Welsh cultural history. James was particularly friendly, helpful and informative. The cost of an overnight room was reasonable. The breakfast was possibly one of the best breakfasts I've ever eaten. The homemade sausages with coriander we're delicious and the German chef could not have been more helpful.
Unfortunately I hadn't been told about the unusual evening meal arrangement, which I should have been.
Everything, we loved it.
Loved the courtyard, gardens & hall. Staff were ALL extremely friendly and helpful.
Superb setting in lovely area with a wonderful garden to walk in.
Nothing really. Local pubs were 2 miles or more away for evening meals.
Location, cafe. hot water,staff, breakfast.
no restaurant, no bar, no telephone, no mobile network, poor quality wi-fi. only shower in bath with poor mixer taps. tap water not ok to drink, inadequate bottle water availability when reception closed at 5pm.
This is a great place for a peaceful rest and the walks around the grounds are excellent.
Courtyard rooms are a little dated.
beautiful location, exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was very good, and all the staff were friendly and helpful
Gardens and excellent concert which happened to be on that evening
Old-fashioned small TV,didn't have room we booked,no choice of meal in restaurant, felt we were reliving our 60's student days.
Location. Views. Breakfast. Concert-Nash Ensemble Liked the large bedroom, very quiet.
No towel rails on wash hand basin in bedroom 1. A rug by the double bed would be an improvement! An en-suite would be better than sharing bathrooms.
Gregynog is a remarkable house in fine grounds. It has an exceptional aura and is an ideal place for a relaxing, peaceful holiday. It is a place I have returned with enormous pleasure, time and again, for some fifty years..
The food, the library, the music, the ambiance
Early dinner, getting lost inside the house, too many steps up to my room, no lift
Lovely location with quiet gardens, very nice staff, Had a tour with James, as we are interested in old buildings and that's why we chose it. We would go there again if we had to stay in the area.
Not many places to eat unless you go into Newtown, then not much selection as mainly takeaways unless you know the place and we didn't- as no food laid on that evening - breakfast food was good though.
