This family-run hotel in the centre of Gretna offers a warm welcome in homely surroundings. It is near to Gretna Register Office, Anvil Hall and the famous blacksmith's shop.

Comfortable bed. I appreciated the help from the receptionist the next morning when my husband became unwell.
This hotel looks wonderful as you drive up to it, however that is where it ends, very dated décor in public areas, and a barperson who constantly whistled the same tune & did not appear to be able to work in a busy situation, he told other guests on a number of occasions that he was very busy and their orders would be at least half an hour, I could go on, also his lager appeared to be off but he still, served it. Our room was a tight squeeze for two and the bathroom needed attention, a hole stuffed with tissue in the door, and smelled of bad drains. My husband suffered a vomiting bug following the bad pint he had, I followed with the bug the next day. All in all quite a disaster.
The staff are amazing, great people, same staff as usual, its like going home! Love this place! If you have not been, then go - because you will find it will be the first of many visits!
Travelling with disabled friend staff were extremely friendly and helpful and could not do enough for us
Good location Very good breakfast Ideal as a wedding venue
No hair dryer The room was small
Food was excellent service good and surroundings very pleasant
Hotel was excellent although a staple was found on the bathroom floor near the toilet which could have caused an injury
lovely hotel, had our wedding anniversary blessing at the old blacksmiths just a short walk from the hotel, we had great service and a lovely meal couldn't have asked for more.
Location and good price.
Noise from motorway. Poor check in with staff member on phone for a long time. Rooms need uprating.
Enjoyed everything about my stay here, even decided to book our wedding here after just a 1 night stay.
Very handy location for those travelling north. A very warm welcome and a comfortable, if a little small and tired looking room. Decent breakfast.
a bit noisy as it's next to the motorway but it wouldn't stop me staying there again.
The service was slow at the bar. We had to wait quite a while before we were noticed and again to be served. The bar tender didn't seem too happy either. But I guess we all have our off days!
Staff are great, food was really good,
The room was good but the walls are very thin or could do with some sound proofing,we are kept awake by guests in the next room, think they may have just got married, but we no were near the bridal suite!!!!!!! if you know what i mean!!!!
The room was clean and comfortable. There was a table and chairs outside on a small deck which would have been nice if we were staying longer. The buffet breakfast was excellent - good selection and piping hot. Evening bar meal tasty too.
the environment is great!
The building is old
Excellent Breakfast ,Friendly staff, Pleasant AmbianceNo
Nothing not to like
Building, location and grounds great, walking around grounds and area very pleasant. Food quality and amount also good, no complaints there. Staff okay.
Room decor poor, scuff marks, stains on walls and ceiling, bath had hairs in and at head near taps, showers ok on cold, but for warm water only a trickle of water, no force to it at all, bedside lamp not working, (both in daughters room not working) reported to reception but no action. Pillows worst ever, very hard and uncomfortable. Had to ask for milk and sugar for room, which was given freely by reception.
Lovely location, perfect location for Gretna wedding.lovely staff, very helpful.
Hotel could do with a bit of redecoration, bit tatty in places.
the staff was pleasant at all times and welcoming the food which we had was very well cooked and presented over all we had a nice time and would return again at some time
we didn't like supplement on the menu when we booked evening meal at set price we don't expect supplements on the menu the chose was slim with out paying extra we would recommend a bigger choice with out supplement added on to the price
Helpfull friendly staff , Very comfortable Very clean
Chicken in bar menu very tough
Stuart the evening Duty Manager was a legend! So So helpful and could not do enough for us. Thanks so much!! We loved the setting of the hotel, the views were amazing, the gardens had fantastic photo points and the hotel itself had that old but comfortable relax feel to it. The food was so good and great value for money. We could not of asked for a better stay! FANTASTIC!!
The shower didn't have great water pressure (but its an old building what do you expect) and that is all there is to complain about.
Lack of choice on dinner menu for vegetarians. Would like to see more salad options on the main courses.
Very comfortable accommodation and friendly staff
The staff were lovely , always willing to help. Excellent Location and surrounding areas, we had our wedding breakfast at the hotel and the food was second to none it was absolutely lovely. The service was excellent.
The walls of the bedroom was so thin we couldn't relax as all as we could hear was the noise from the adjoining bedrooms both next door and above. The televisions from both these rooms were so loud in the end we had to get dressed and go out. This would be the only reason i wouldn't go back to the hotel for an overnight stay but for anyone who doesn't mind the noise - i would highly recommend the Hotel as everything else was spot on from the service to the Location
polite staff, comfortable bed , cleanliness of room, location . ample selection for breakfast.
As a wedding venue with a lot of experience they were very good with a large amount of knowledge about weddings, florists, etc. The food was excellent and I would definitely recommend you eat there and save the hassle of finding another place for a meal. The venue is a stones throw from the train station and other local (wedding based) attractions. Our room was well worn, but very clean and thoughtfully laid out.
I couldn't contact reception as there was not phone in the room. I booked a wake-up call and at reception when I paid and did not realise. They do advertise phones in rooms and a daily newspaper which they also did not supply. I don't mind these things but I should have known before I booked. And a wake-up call for a 9.30am wedding should have been supplied as it was a very important occasion. As a wedding venue a better iron and ironing board should have been supplied. I was embarrassed by the creases on my dress which will have been photographed for posterity. I couldn't even use the advertised trouser press as it wasn't supplied. With just a bit of tidying up of a couple of little things over the next year and this could really make all the difference. They may not get a lot of repeat business from the same happy couple themselves, but word of mouth is important too.
