Beautiful surroundings, hotel staff very friendly, breakfast was lovely. Hotel not good value for money! Paid £150 for a box room, tv was tiny and only had 6 channels! Bathroom needs to be redecorated. 2 or 3 course meals were too over-priced, would recommend paying a bit extra and going elsewhere!

It was very handy for Gretna as we went for a friends wedding at the Anvil and a reception at Smiths which was a walk around the corner. Good breakfast. It was basic which was fine as we only paid £44 for both and breakfast however the bathroom had hairs in it from previous occupant and the carpet didn't seem to have been hoovered terribly well. Was a bit grubby which was a shame.

Simone on reception was extremely helpful. We only stayed the one night as a stopover on our trip but the Hotel was much better than expected for the price I paid. The next time I will visit the blacksmith shop and take more time in the gardens.

For the price everything about this hotel was good. Stayed agin on the return journey.Purely personal taste Purely personal taste?niggle. The breakfast porridge was not up to the standard I would expect especially in Scotland. I prefer to also have a top sheet as sometimes it is too hot with the duvet.

We stayed one night on our way South on a visit to family , the best thing about our visit was the extensive buffet breakfast , this covered all tastes and could not be faulted , in fact I have stayed in 4/5 star establishments when on business , that could learn a lesson there. My single complaint , that was made to the Reception Desk was that Room 16's bathroom had a stale drainage odour in it and as and as a now retired Plumbing contractor , I can clearly state that within the Stack System Duct there is a leak , possibly not a very large one , but significant in that the odour could be offputting for other guests , it really does require investigation and elimination.

The staff were great and the food was nice - the grounds were nice Unfortunately it was freezing cold in the room - we changed room once but the wall heater never came on at all - a free standing heater was in the second room which heated it a bit - I had to go to bed with a tracksuit and socks on. There was black mould on he bathroom grout and the shower would not go off again in the morning

Overall very good. We got upgraded free (told it's the practice if room available) Very good value for money. (It's not the Ritz so dont expect it) Good clean comfortable hotel. Staff are great nothing was too much trouble. Bar food was excelent value for money, we had main course each evening for £5 a head.Sunday carvery is only £5, brilliant. We are definitley going for the third time later in the year hopefully with some good weather. The concrete extention spoils the wonderful 300 year old house that it was origanally. However if that makes the hotel cost effective so be it.

Good value for money, very friendly staff. Rooms are fairly basic but are all that you need so no complaints. Would rebook it needed to be in the area again! :) Our bride had to use another room for her showers as the bridal suites had no hot water, disappointed but couldn't be helped.

We had an excellent time over the 2 nights. The family wedding was super and the service and food could not be faulted. Window frames need attention, a little draughty, bathrooms on the cool side. This could be a problem if the outside tmeperature had been cooler!!

We chose this hotel as a stop over on our jouney south from our home in ne Scotland. ....It enabled us to arrive at our destination refreshed after a good nights sleep. This is the second time we have stayed here and this was better than the first as there would appear to be a new chef! The bar meals were excelent quality and good value. It was also apparant that there was a programm of refurbishment taking place but the work didnot disturb us at all.

That they have retained the character of the building with open fires and surroundings. The lounge area was very relaxing however, It was too bright and this had an impact on the ambience. Perhaps if lights were dimmed slightly and some lit candles were in the room this would have made the atmosphere a bit more characteristic in keeping with the building.

Lovely hotel in beautiful gardens. All the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was excellent. We used this hotel as an overnight stop as did some shopping at the Gretna Outlet Village and was going further north in Scotland. The time spent there was not enough and we will go back and stay longer. The large bathroom was cold as the heated towel rail was not sufficient for the size of the room. There had been a fall of snow so the temperature was very cold.
