Dinner was excellent on both nights, breakfast fairly basic but acceptable Cleanliness of the bathrooms. Our friends have to change rooms as the grouting was black with mould. Ours wasn't great but not as bad as theirs. Stayed at this hotel 3 or 4 years ago and had the same complaint which I wrote to them about. No improvement at all as far as I can see. Also the bar/lounge area was very draughty, so many doors which were never closed meant the air circulated. Log fire in lounge could have been lovely but on the Friday night for whatever reason the lounge was filled with smoke and on the Saturday night the fire was out. |

Meals were good, guests need to be aware on arrival that you need to book a table for your dinner and this must be done at the dinning hall not at reception, communication between staff and reception needs to be better i.e. the left hand did not know what the right was doing.Bar prices need to be reviewed to be more competitive. |

The location was lovely the hotel was nice and we only had breakfast but it was good lots of choices and well cooked. As we had a wedding at 3o'clock it would have been nice to check in early but the extra charge to do that was too much so we had to rush book in after ceremony to get back to reception |

The bar area had a good atmosphere. Staff were generally friendly. The room was revolting. Double bed was two singles pushed together with a very uncomfortable seam running up the middle, impossible to sleep on. The duvet cover consisted of two single duvets inside a double duvet cover and it still did not stretch acorss the width of the beds. The bathroom was unpleasant and the room smelled like mildew. Very disappointed. |

it looks beautiful from the outside but disappointment when you get inside. the only good thing is the girls on reception are so friendly and helpful yes the bath had blue mould round it, my daughter who is only 16 month could of caught anything from it, the dinning staff coudnt understand a word of english and when spoken to we were just ignored. the fry well say no more .......yuk!! will not be staying here again |

Breakfast was very good, booking, and check- in was very efficient. Lounge area was cold and not very welcoming. Staff seemed in short supply and had to wait for service. All areas in need of re-vamp. |

Urmmmm.......Not a Lot! We had a good Wedding, Although that was down to the family making the best of it. Wedding meal was nice. Rude Arrogant Receptionist, Rooms Tiny and Shabby. Could do with a deep clean and new carpets and furniture. The main rooms in the hotel are at the side of the original building and resemble a old Travel lodge type building. |

The male receptionist that greeted us was very pleasant and helpful. He geniunally seemed apologetic that we had to pay extra for the tea/coffee facilities. The hotel itself is a beautiful main building in a lovely location with modern box extensions. The reason we stayed at the hotel was to attend a wedding on site - which was fantastic & romantic. The dinner at night was good. When we got to the room, the tea/coffee was missing and we were charged £1.90 for this facility! The toilet in our room had been used and not flushed, there was no shower gel and the rooms were small. In the general areas the carpets were taped up & I considered them to be a dangerous trip hazard in places (I understand one guest did actually trip on the carpet during our stay). The corridor carpets were thread bare in places. Overall the hotel urgently needs a refurbishment and I would not recommend it until it has it. I consider the cost of £95/night high considering the extra charge for tea/coffee (although this did include dinner). The female receptionist was not very courtious at times and seemed very uninterested on check. |

Whilst only serving small portions and overly priced the food at the hotel was tasty and acceptable The hotel is very tired and in serious need of redecoration/refurbishment in al public areas. The carpets were so threadbare in the bar and particularly corridors they posed a serious health and safety risk, particularly to disabled visitors, which we were. |

A beautiful, turn-of-the-century Grade II listed property, situated in the heart of Gretna with gardens laid to lawn, floral borders and shady trees. |
Whilst still retaining the decor and atmosphere of the splendid Georgian era, the County hotel has every modern amenity. |
