Guest Lodge Penzance  

It was convenient for the railway station and the HeliportIt and served as a good overnight stay for connecting from one to the other. It was also near some good.retuarants and pubs.

The staff was lovely. They were kind enough to give us a room much before the actual check in time as we arrived early. The location by the promenade is perfect and relaxing.

The rooms were a little too small. The wifi did not work at Guest lodge. It only worked in the Beachside reception area. I think they should have wifi at both places.

We only stayed at Guest Lodge one night as we were crossing to the Isles of Scilly, but we visited Mousehole and we were very comfortable and pleased to get such good value.

Central to most places to visit by car. Close to town and all facilities. Also close to beach facilities.

The room was beautifully decorated (but quite feminine!) with a very comfortable bed and best of all - a bath! Loved the huge white towels, as well. We had a double room with a large balcony facing the sea. As we turned up before check-in time and had some time to wait for our bus after check-out, we were able to leave our luggage at reception free of charge.

When we first arrived at 1pm, we were told our rooms would not be ready for another hour (check in time is from 2pm). We came back at 2.30pm and when I asked the receptionist if our room was ready, I was given a very unapologetic "no". I kicked up a bit of fuss and another member of staff suddenly appeared with our keys. I did not appreciate the receptionist's attitude but found the other members of staff friendly and helpful. The worst thing was probably the tv reception in our room. There were very few channels and those that we had did not have clear reception and the static noise was so loud, we couldn't bare to have the tv on at all. Another problem was not being able to leave the window open to air the room while we were not there as we had a balcony door that could have been accessed by the rooms either side.

The bed was broken when we were there, making those big noises when you sit on it. We therefore asked to change room from the reception but the girl there is not helpful at all and lied to us saying there is no other room available. I guess she thinks that we are just making trouble for her which is very rude as why do we want to change to another room if the bed is ok? Specifically it is not likely that any of their other bedrooms will be different? She then sent the facility manager to come and check and he realised that we are telling the truth that the bed is broken. So he accepts to put us in another bedroom. He is friendly after finding out that we didn't lie but we are extremely unhappy with the way we are treated (the staff lied and not being helpful). We feel that as a guest we are totally not being trusted there and it takes us about an hour and a half to get all these things sorted out. You can imagine how frustrating the whole process is.

We went to the Menack Theatre and on our way to the Guest Lodge visited St Michael's Mount. On our way home we visited the Eden Project. The position of the Guest Lodge was convenient for visiting various attractions in Cornwall. Also from Penzance you can visit the Scilly Isles. We packed a lot into our 24 hours in the Penzance area.

The only minor thing was the fact that there was no allocated parking for the Guest Lodge guests but we were able to find (free) parking on the streets nearby.

Convenient location

During our four weeks travelling in the uk & Europe this accommodation was the most unsatisfactory we encountered. The room was tiny, ventilation non-existant, the bedlinen poor [the blanket was so dusty that it induced hay-fever] and the general feeling was that of an empty building.

The room was small but comfortable and clean. The location was excellent, being just a 15 minute stroll along the attractive promenade from the centre of Penzance. The beautiful Morrag Gardens are nearby. The scream of seagulls was well muted giving an undisturbed sleep. We were unaware of anyone else staying there as it was very quiet.

The keypad entry-system could do with a re-think as it could present a security risk (I can still remember the entry codes for the main door and room). I would suggest a standard key entry for the main door - that shouldn't cost too much to replace. The toilet in our room (9) took quite a while to refill after flushing. There was no view at all, but that didn't matter as we were like 1 minute from the sea - we didn't go on holiday to sit in our room looking out!
