The main house still has original books & records, paintings and furniture that belong to the family who once lived there. They have managed kept the character and home feel and the main lounge is so relaxing. I like how the extension has details in the brick work that mirro the main house. Would have been nice to see flowers in the gardens and outside the entrance

Hotel location was excellent for our trip. Food was also very good. Staff were helpful and polite. Our choice of room was excellent for us. Due to the nature of the recent weather, the air-con was not working and all the public areas were uncomfortably hot.

We have the highest possible praise. The staff there are lovely; friendly, polite, very attentive and helpful. Beautiful building and surroundings. Delicious food. Breakfast was individually cooked to order and arrived piping hot. There was also a very good range of cereals, fruit and other items one would expect if having a continental breakfast. Dinner in the restaurant was of a high standard and the bar food was good too Our room was very comfortable and spacious and the bathroom was very well presented. But the main thing is the staff, who are fantastic! We stayed for 5 nights, eating in the restaurant 3 times. We just felt it would be nice to have more variety in the menu at dinner, but this wasn't a major problem for us.

The mix of the old house and the new was very well done. The history of the house and the old portraits was very interesting. The food was nice although expensive. Breakfast was excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly. Rooms very comfortable and well kept. We liked the way the old rooms had kept their names and were shown on the old bell board.

Very friendly staff, good breakfast. The majority of the rooms are located in an extension of the main house, the so called Woodlands wing, which also hosts a number of meeting rooms. The extension was added in the 60's and lacks entirely the country house feel we were looking for.

I think you could serve breakfast for a little longer - most places serve until 11am, and you could then have checkout at midday.

Lovely, atmospheric hotel with open fire in the entrance hall and a comfortable bar/lounge area. Very well furnished and comfortable bedrooms. Spotlessly clean and stylish bathroom. Good breakfast. Staff very approachable and friendly.

Excellent friendly very attentive staff, good sized rooms and beds nice grounds etc, would stay here again. We thought restaurant expensive for size of portions and limited menu choice. Bar meals were much better value.

Staff are the hotel's best asset. They were friendly and obliging and nothing was too much trouble. Set in peaceful countryside, yet close to town - best of both worlds. We stayed in a room in the old part of the house, which was beautifully furnished with lots of little extras, and a decent shower in the bathroom made it a comfortable stay. No wi fi was available in our room, but was available in other parts of the hotel.

The hall is located in beautiful countryside and within a short distance from the North East coast line. The hotel and the grounds are well looked after offering guests the opportunity to enjoy the comfort and luxury of an all but vanished by gone opulent age . The food was excellent and well complimented by the charm and courtesy of the well trained ,predominantly , North East staff . It was a very enjoyable relaxing weekend . More robust pillows on the bed would have been an improvement .

Staff were excellent, public rooms were very comfortable and rather splendid. The restaurant was excellent, food first class The bedroom was in the eves of the hotel therefore no view from the room, there were plenty of other rooms on lower floors empty. The bistro was dissapointing, no character.

Excellent helpful, cheerful staff Old world feeling of main building Good food well presented The extensions to the building were large and entailed a lot of walking quite a long way down corridors from the main part of the building to the bedroom

Very friendly and helpful staff. We were situated above the Suites used for weddings and on both nights of our stay - a Saturday and Sunday there was a wedding reception held. Although we did not hear any noise from the events themselves, we were awakened briefly by noisy wedding guests retiring in the early hours.

The building and location are superb. Also, I found it very peaceful and relaxing. The stafff were generally polite and helpful. I was very disappointed at the breakfast service. It took far too long for the staff to take our orders and generally, we were half way through our breakfast before the coffee arrived. On two occasions, we had to wait for a table, although a dozen tables were empty and waiting to be reset. Also, I ordered poached eggs on toast and was given 1 egg on a piece of incredibly dry toast, not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel.

Good staff Mixed to poor quality of food generally. Meat courses appeared overheated or overwarmed resulting in dry meat with poor texture. This applied to both breakfast and dinner meals. Food is poorly executed and therefore poor value for money. Wine overpriced for selections. Hotel generally appeared tired. Pets are not allowed but a 'hotel' cat was ever- present and persistent in the lounge.
