The location is lovely as is the building, plenty of parking & very friendly staff. Lovely to have a real fire to relax in front of.
I was in room 2 directly above the kitchen, the noise from which was loud, lots of crashing & banging until quite late into the night. As I was up very early, this disrupted my sleep. The shower was poor. The decor a little dated in what seems the older part of the house.
Very enjoyable stay with a good restaurant and within easy reach of Whitby and Scarborough. Hotel set in beautiful area. The breakfast was very good with a good choice.
Shower not very powerful and cistern slow at refilling.
Very expensive breakfast and not clear it was room only basis. Food not very hot when it got to us as not enough staff to serve and take orders. No hot water for the whole three days which is unacceptable but still charged us full price for room. I expect to be able to have a shower
Excellent and friendly staff. Quiet, peaceful & secluded. Excellent quality food which was reasonably priced.
Cobwebs around the light fittings on arrival and one or 2 bathroom surfaces not cleaned 100%. Shower was poor. Warm water out of the cold tap not good when cleaning teeth. Accommodation on the pricey side if paying full fee.
Hotel character and friendly atmosphere . food very good.staff welcoming and helpful.
the staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful and the location was excellent although transport was essential !!
we thought breakfast should have been included in the price !! as this is what we are generally used to , i suppose this is a sign of the times !! it all comes down to money and profit
Magnificent setting. Away from it all Very relaxing
A little pricey
accommodation food excellent went for a relaxing weekend felt so relaxed with surrounding and the staff on the ball through out our stay booked an extra night looking forward to going back when refurbishment is done. chris&sandra doncaster
music played morning and evening
The hotel was situated in a lovely setting .we were unable to take full advantage of the setting because of our personal circumstances.
We felt that that the room was a little bit tired and that because we had booked through booking.com we were given an inferior room to allow for the reduced cost. The beds were not made up on the second day and when I looked at the toilet brush holder it was very dusty.
beautiful location, the grounds of the hotel are beautiful.
Purple striped paper on every wall , i found it difficult to relax, perhaps just one wall would have been enough. Lack of phone or internet.
Evening meal was superb in every respect . Loved the attention and pleasantness of the staff.
Music too loud and rather intrusive at mealtimes . It was especially distracting at dinner - upbeat and jarring at times. We feel there wasn't a peaceful , relaxing atmosphere because of this.We think the choice of music is particularly important . For us it is part of the experience . Any old thing put on in the background won't do .
The food was very good both dinner and breakfast
Nothing of note
The location and the quietness. The grounds were beautiful to walk around. The ducks were very entertaining. Refurbished rooms. Change of room when I complained about the noise and smell from the kitchen in room 2
Noise and smell from the kitchen in room 2.
Excellent - well presented and such good value.
The hotel is quiet and cozy and the surroundings are beautiful.
The coffee was more expensive than Harrods and tasted like dirt.
Building & Grounds were lovely
Bit too secluded, plus drinks were very expensive.
Location - Very Quiet Friendly Staff Bar
Over priced breakfast menu No bar meals/snacks Limited eating times
Outside location really good , pitch and put courses and Tennis court good Staff generally friendly and helpful
at times staff seemed to be absent from front desk due to also working in bar Room wasnt serviced first day but staff apologized and gave us complimentary bottle of wine window sills in corridors not cleaned covered in flies
Staff were friendly - great location picture perfect
When we arrived there was a group booking a wedding at reception despite the receptionist being aware of our presence we had to wait 25 minutes for these people to finish their discussions before we could book in. I was then moved three times during my stay because there was no water in the first two rooms, the rooms were dated and very small there was no mini bar or complimentary water, I bought mineral water for the kettle but the kettle itself which was old and tired left an after taste in the water that rendered it unusable, the room size did not come across when booking online. I did the dust test and the cleaning was sub standard the third and final room we were moved to had hardened tooth paste in the sink from the previous user and the bed was too small and very uncomfortable. On the first day we elected to dine at the hotel we booked a table at 20.00 and when we went to dine were ushered into the bar instead of being shown a table, we then felt obliged to buy a drink and wait they did not have any mainstream beers so I elected to have coke which was served in a tiny glass, at this point we became aware of a lot of large blue bottle flies buzzing around, when we were shown into the dining area we were not given a choice of were to sit and the flies were also buzzing around the table the food seemed to a high standard but when we complained about the vegetables being cold the waiter stared blankly at us and walked off!! needless to say we did not eat again as there was an obvious hygene issue with the flies. we elected to eat out even at breakfast. I did complain and as I did so pointed out the fly problem as there were flies buzzing around the receptionist.
I got a great bargain at £60 a night.
Breakfast starts at 0800 - far too late, I had already left every day for work.
Location, staffing, meals, outdoor facilities (tennis courts, pitch and putt, croquet. Terrace seating
Bathroom slightly tired looking but functional
Friendly staff, always willing to help. Beautiful setting.
Nothing negative to report from my visit.
absolutely magnificent position, lovely grounds. Good shower /bed. nice staff.
Dark room; electric sockets, TV, in strange place. Only one veggie option at dinner, a risotto that tasted like an oily rice pudding, served with sweetened carrots and fried potatoes - disgusting.
