Hackness Grange Hotel  

Just returned from 1 night stay at hackness grange, 1 twin room £79 the room very clean and light, bathroom clean and a good size , the best bed to date , evening meal full of flavour and well presented .the setting of the hotel outstanding with good views and the north york moors a short drive away .

The staff were extremely friendly and pleasant. We felt that we were very well looked after. The food was of a high standard. We had a comfortable room with a stunning view

Although it was unseasonably cold, the heating did not come on until late afternoon on our first day, even with an extra heater. The other days were fine.

Good walking area

No really good information about walks from the hotel. There was a 'walks file'' but it was not organized.

Beautiful location set in the North York Moors yet close enough to the coast and excellent shopping facilities in Scarborough. Not too far to get to Whitby to enjoy the best fish and chips! Relaxing & tranquil. Easy and safe to park. Very pleasant & helpful staff. Clean, tidy, comfortable rooms. Breakfast perfect. We loved the fact that there was no mobile phone signal so no one could bother us. We wanted a complete break away and that is exactly what we got. Going back soon.

Not much we can say for this category but....Hackness have closed the swimming pool and intend to create a conference room facility. Maybe this will attract different class of customer (business) and be cheaper than maintaining a pool. Please, please reinstate the pool..!! Adds to the whole relaxing theme for a more enjoyable stay. The hotel is looking 'tired' and is in need of some interior decorating and curtains refreshed.

We liked the ambience, furniture and ornaments,coal fires, views and grounds. Decor.Staff extremely friendly and helpful. We will definately return.

It was very cold!! Lovely fires but they did not give much heat.The piped music in the dining room was too loud at times but when asked the staff did turn it down. Service in the dining room was a little too efficient our plates were taken as soon as we put our forks down. We would have liked a little more time to savour our food.

Great Half Board deal, food excellent.

Lack of mobile connection.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was good.

The wine cellar was a little understocked, there was no internet access and no mobile phone reception.

Great location in North Yorks, edge of Dalby forest. Friendly and hospitable staff make all the difference. Good value too!

It was very convenient for attending a friend's 70th birthday party.

It has recently come under new management, but the signs of previous under-investment are obvious.

Comfortable and warm. Nice lounge area to meet and talk with friends.

I tried to book breakfast for all of our party (8) but was told I could only book for my own room. Another member of staff had already prepared a table for nine of us for breakfast and the others didn't have to book as she just took their room number once seated for breakfast.

Great staff, good breakfast, security. Comfortable like putting on favorite slippers.

Ripped carpet not repaired on stairs to room 18! Swimming pool not in use. Hotel is looking a bit tired.

Relaxed cosy surroundings and a down to earth warm and friendly welcome from all the staff. Great location for exploring the North Yorkshire coast. Good food and a great cooked breakfast.

It's a real shame the pool is not still in use - this used to be a real bonus of staying there. The tennis court needs regular minor maintenance to stop it being slippy.

A beautiful setting

We stayed at a bad time. We met Roger, the new owner who told us about all his plans to restore the hotel back to its former glory. Our stay was very dissapointing due to work going on inside the hotel. also no swimming pool as shown on your website. We were the only guests there! Maybe the hotel should close whilst work is completed or offer a redused rate.

It was a place i always wanted to visit. I attended the War Weekend in Pickering and Hackness Grange fitted the bill. We did not have meals due to meeting up with friends in Pickering. Very impressed with the rooms, fresh towels each day. I could not believe my charge for a single room, no extra to my friends paying for a double. Hope to come back.

The staff were so friendly and warm, silver service without too much pomp and ceremony. The hotel was beautiful and the surroundings and grounds were just stunning. The room was exceptionally clean and very comfortable. The evening meal that we had was absoloutely exceptional, we couldn't even stay for a pudding :(. The breakfast was just gorgeous, full english with plenty of toast and coffee, my kind of morning. We had a wonderful relaxing time and would most definately stay again. Although there are a few reviews saying that the hotel is a little tired, I wish people would stop being so snobby, it was just beautiful so get over yourselves.

The only thing I would have liked (and this is personal preference) is Yorkshire tea bags in the room, being in Yorkshire and everything.

Lovely hotel that needs to be renovated. Staff are generally friendly.

Meals are old fashioned and restaurant is life-less.

the room was small but very nice and comfortable. the grounds were lovely too.

Peace and tranquility. Setting. Close to Scarborough and Whitby. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast quality - one of the best I've ever had.

Bar prices. Only 1 lager and 1 bitter on draught. Having to go to reception to get service in the bar after dinner. Cost.

Grand building and settings. A bit out in the boondocks, but not a problem unless you drink.

Not a big fan of mounted showers. Big spiders up in the corner of the curtain. Ew.

It has recently been bought out of administration (2 months ago) and needs a lot of TLC, which the new owner has set about with gusto. The Hotel is clean and comfortable, the food is excellent and all the staff we met were excellent too. If the new owner achieves what he has set out to do (and he is already making very good progress) then this Hotel will regain and perhaps surpass what it used to be like some years ago. As it is, it is very well worth a stay and my wife and I are looking forward to our next visit.

Needs a little updating and some of the staff need to be a bit more welcoming

The food was excellent, as were the waiters. The situation of the Hotel was beautiful and ideal for travelling into nearby town.

We were told by Booking.com that the hotel had a pool, which was the main reason we chose it, only to find on arrival the pool was no longer in use. This was very disappointing and spoilt our holiday. The Hotel blamed the booking company. We have emailed Booking.Com and are waiting for a reply from them regarding compensation.
