the lounge is pretty old-fasioned, and guests can have fun together in the lounge or the TV room
Not very good value for money. You pay everything extra (towel, locker, luggage storage, etc.) which makes the price come up pretty high. I've played less for much better hostels.
just the location. price? not so cheap. you could find some cheap hotel with similar or same price.
first day i was so hungry and tired from long trip but when i arrive there they gave me wrong key so i had to arrange all my stuff again moving to another room. i wasted my precious x time. First night people in other room were partying all night so i couldn't sleep well.(Staffs could ask them to move out to kitchen or keep more quite for other people but they don't give a x about it) They never explain me about the late check out charge, even not telling me the exact check out time. so i thought it was 11pm like most of places i stayed during my entire trip. and when i was going out around 10:30 reception she was not there so i had to wait her about 20mins and when she came back she just charge me 5pounds and return me only 5pounds from key deposit. Breakfast without any protein. looks absolutely different from the picture. 2 pounds for the locker key, deposit(10 pounds sometimes you might not get returned because of some reason.). I prefer paying 5 to 10 pounds more(or sometimes same price) and look for some cheap hotels. Edinburgh it's a amazing place but this hostel made my journey disappointing like one of the worst place i have ever stayed.
really excellent location at a fair price, just near railway station (2-3 mins if i remember correctly)
I would say the bed was too soft to sleep comfortably for me (can be a good choice for those who enjoy soft bed though). another thing is the bathroom as i thought there would be one bathroom for every single room.
Friendly staff. Lots of information available. Clean kitchen ,tea and coffee. Available all the time.
I have stayed at a few hostels around the world but never have I found such a hospitable place than the Haggis. The staff are friendly and courteous giving a warm welcome and adopting a cosy atmosphere for all guests. I must say it's also one of the cleanest hostels I have come across on my travels and I have visited a few worldwide! Why stay in an expensive hotel as a solo traveller when you have friends right here who share cakes, a glass of wine and enjoy good conversation? It's a must for any traveller wanting to save a few pennies in one of Edinburgh's most central locations. The kitchen is great for cooking haggis also with breakfast on the house!
That I have to leave shortly to continue on my quest!
Good stay overall. It was nice being able to head down to the pub just down stairs and the train station and old town are very close by.
The hostel is tucked away on a side street and the sign is not very visible. It took me a while to find it. Paying for wifi felt kind of silly after having it free everywhere else in the city.
Gender mixed, female traveller should pay more attention
Unbeatable location across Waverly station and just behind Princes St. Free flow of coffee and tea, bread, free fruit, free jam and milk available at all times. Well equipped kitchen for cooking.
Although there is free internet access using the computets in the r veption area, Wifi should also be provided free of charge.
As I'm a Muslim and coming from Arab country I felt comfortable with everything I didn't get hard to share rooms nor bathroom and the staff was really sweet and helpful especially sweet Allen I loved him. And when I arrived one of the staff helped me to carry my bag. I can have coffee and cook when ever I want .. I really felt I'm home. Keep it guys.
Nothing but sometime the noise from outside the hostel.
it's clean and well located
the fee for store luggage for leaving the same day
Location is excellent and the staff are really nice
Price and location
Beds not comfortable. Had to make bed and strip bed in the morning. Unable to regulate heat on showers. Tried 3 of them
Close to train station and the city center, helpful staff, shower cubicles
Basins very small, stairs to the 3rd floor, broken coffee machine
1st, the location is quite near to Railway station. However, it is at 3nd floor and without elevator...so, for the people who carry big suitcase like me, it is not recommend to you. 2nd, the temporary of water was very unstable, one mins before it's too hot to burn my skin and next mins it's too cold..talked to the staff and they said it will be stable after few mins(it DIDNOT!!!) in the end I changed to different shower rooms for couple time. 3nd, the wifi was charged by days. Compared to other hostels in Edinburgh that provide free wifi, I feel regret with my choice.
The bad was little bit uncomfortable.
The location The friendly staff The breakfast
No separate toilet facilities for women.
We stay during weekend which might cost a bit higher than weekday.
Clean and good hospitality given by the helpful staff
Long & winding Staircase
free breakfast food provided linens they watched over my luggage for me while I was moving KEY: it is only one floor, which means there aren't many people crammed in as there are other hostels. I went over to a friend's hostel a bit closer to my school but it was horrible. More like a prison with how many people they put together. CCTV cameras everywhere, made me feel safe about leaving my stuff (hopefully they actually work!)
lockers and wifi weren't free, not a con necessarily just something to keep in mind
Location is perfect! And the baths and toilets are very very clean. Would recommend everyone!
I've paid for wifi, but sometimes it did not work. When i told this to staff, he said nothing's wrong with the wifi, just blamed Apple. He said Apple products are terrible and have issues with connecting wifi. However, my roommates couldn't connect with a blackberry and samsung either. He is a bit rude person.
helpful staff good location
no free wifi small rooms noisy
- Central location - Very good kitchen and bathroom facilities - Very clean - Useful information and maps available
- The lower bunk beds are too low to even sit on the bed, so one must be careful when siting up
Clean sheets, breakfast facilities, computer terminals
Very cramped, needs more showers, too many beds per room.
Ideal location, very close to Waverley station. Staff friendly and helpful. Free breakfast and tea/coffee. Toilet/shower facilities were clean. International power socket for each bed.
Stairs to reach the hostel.
