The hotel is certainly dated and a bit shabby, but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel is also very handy for Prestatyn town centre, and it is only a short walk to Pontins and the beach. The freshly cooked breakfast was of a good standard, the only downside being that instant coffee was on offer, as opposed to a proper brew. The staff were very friendly. The pub beneath the hotel is also very nice and traditional, serving some excellent ales and scottish malt whiskys. The shower (in Room 4) is the worst shower I have ever come across. Absolutely impossible to maintain at a comfortable temperature with decent pressure. I complained about this. The owner was very apologetic and offered me compensation, which I accepted. However, I would urge the owner to upgrade the shower facilities immediately. If the shower was decent enough, I would have no problem in staying at this hotel again.

I have stayed many times now and can't fault the value for money. Just love that it is so close to the beach ( 5 min. drive) and lovely area. Staff are friendly and helpful. It could really do with some refurbishing. But after all, it is a pub with rooms so just don't have high expectations.

The hotel is in desperate need of Visit from the Hotel Inspector, really not worth the prices they are charging! Very disapointed with the whole experience, decor is dated not clean certainly overpriced for what you get, some of the facilities would certainly not conform to safety standards.

Breakfast was reasonable Windows not weatherproof, not clean, only ancient single glazing and would not shut properly. Could not see out of windows because of condensation. Window sill running with water after heavy lashing rain overnight. Kettle left empty, mugs dirty. Nowhere to fill kettle with clean drinking water. Ancient TV, no instructions, and left on adult channel. Wallpaper peeling off walls. Mattress hard, pillows hard, towels very old and hard. Armchairs ancient, not comfortable and stained. Described as hotel/restaurant but no food on offer other than breakfast. No receipt given for payment. Asked to pay immediately on arrival, unable to see room first. Asked if wanted breakfast at 8 then told not available till 8:15. Scant amount of cheap toilet roll supplied. Would have gone home after one night but atrocious weather and many roads snowbound.

Fantastic breakfasts - really excellent. Friendly staff. Nice to have a separate guest entrance. Fairly decent beds/heating/TV etc. The bathroom was pretty abysmal. A sliding door between bedroom and bathroom that only just closes means you can hear absolutely everything between - not exactly conducive to romance. Take headphones. Terrible terrible shower. Hard to turn on, difficult to keep at a constant temperature so varied between too cold and burny hot. The shower head didn't properly stay in the attachment so every now and then would fall and hit you in your face or back. Nowhere to put shower stuff.

Despite being very disappointed with the facilities and the room and the fact that it was very much over-priced, the breakfast was freshly cooked on both mornings. There was really nothing else to like about the hotel and the description on the bookin.com site did not accurately reflect the reality of this sub-standard accomodation. Accomodation was not clean. Faulty lock on door so access to bedroom would be no problem if any intruder wished to gain entry very over- priced room extremely small for a double/twin heat escaping through drafty windows & door that did not close tightly.

The location. I didnt feel it was suitable for two young ladies as there were construction workers staying/ lodging. The full english breakfast was of poor standard, and my daugher and granddaughter felt uncomfortable, but it was just for one night so I was not too concerned. Linda Evans

Good value for what I paid. £70 for the suite and b&b for 3 adults, husband, mother and myself - not bad at all. A curtain separated the single room from the twin which allowed enough privacy for us all as it was for only one night. Staff very helpful and friendly. Cooked breakfast very nice. Good pub with very good beer. Pub in the center of Prestatyn. I would certainly stay again. Room could do with a lick of paint and bathroom a bit of a smarten up but can't grumble too much for the price I paid.

I have stayed here many times and like it a lot. It is very basic but everything you need is in the room and it is all clean. If you don't expect 5 star accommodation you will appreciate it. Bathroom is on the small size but it is clean so it didn't really bother me.

Beer, Breakfast. The lower floor of the building is a pub which deserves its place in the Good Beer Guide Room. Very small, not very clean.

Horrendous, awful, unclean. no wonder they use the 'payment on arrival' system - we would have run a mile if we'd seen the room first. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. In fact, in the next B&B (which was fab) my friend even advised other walkers who had booked the Halcyon Quest not to go there and to find something else, quickly.

“I had the warmest of welcomes and my every need was catered for . The owners were helpful without being obtrusive, the breakfast exactly as I requested and delicious. The room was spacious for single occupancy and there was ample hot water. I could come and go as I wished. The garden was a delight and the breafast room/conservatory was a peaceful, relaxing place. My cousins were close at hand and the High Street is within easy walking distance. It was quiet and peaceful. For the more energetic than I, Offa's Dyke Walk is on the doorstep. I cannot think of anything I didn't like about Plas I Fan. I hope to return many times and am very glad I fell upon it by accident.” Ann, Dingwall |
