Staff were friendly and accommodating. Although travelling on my own I requested a double room however received a phone call from a member of staff very soon after booking giving me the option of taking the single room at a reduced price as the tv in the double room wasn't working. I was grateful for this as the tv was more of a priority than the double bed. The bed was clean and very comfortable.
The building is situated in lovely surroundings and is very impressive from the outside however is rather tired looking on the inside. The room I was staying in was desperately in need of decorating and the curtains being replaced.
Breakfast satisfactory Room comfortable
Bar meal poor, and restaurant empty and in darkness- not encouraging! Tough dry steak Only one poor pale bitter Other bitter chilled Red wine glass the end of two bottles on bar- awful old stale wine
Food very good. Staff in restaurant very good.
Broken shower! Noise from room above due to loose floorboards. Furniture not in keeping with room!
Very good staff and breakfast also nice bedroom with comfy bed
Not a lot although I would say that the bedroom was clean and warm.
Bed uncomfortable. Night noises, mainly from a series of car alarms. Room lights too dim to read, Shower didn't work. Three menus belied the food on offer. Chips cooked in cold fat.
The old fashioned, traditional feel of the place!
Lack of wifi on upper floors;(
The Manor is a lovely old building decorated beautifully for the Christmas period. The staff were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed my meal. Good value for money.
Bedroom was comfortable the bathroom in need of a refit. I would suggest if you don't have lots of quests put them in a better room, 3 flights of stairs was not appreciated.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good as was the service in the restaurant. Value for money
The hotel is generally dated and in need of repair. The en-suite did not have a shower and the hand shower provided did not work.
Rude staff, very dirty rooms even my duvet had dust on it. No wifi anywhere are from one corner of the bar. In my last 15 years of travelling this is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
bar never opened until 5pm on the Saturday,no outlet for a coffee either.dingy bathroom,2nd floor of the hotel def requires a bit of money spent on it
3 degrees outside, no heating in the room, no hot water in the shower. Never ever.
The breakfast was excellent - one of the best that I have experienced in Britain!! Very good choice and well cooked. The receptionist who I spoke to over the phone was very flexible which in turn made me feel welcome. As was the staff serving me at breakfast.
Not the hotels fault but quite noisy guests when they were returning to their rooms in the early hours of the morning. A few broken items, mainly in the shower room. The soap dish in the shower, the bulb had gone in the light above the basin and in the ceiling over the basin, so difficult to see to put my make up on.
Upon arrival I was greeted by a very professional lady who quickly checked me in. It was a late arrival so I did not use all the facilities except the bar and breakfast both of which were good.
The bed was uncomfortable
great price, although wouldn't ofwanted to pay full price.
room tired especially bathroom.
The food was reasonable and the staff were very nice.
Advertised as having wifi, but it isn't available in any of the rooms (yet). Rooms looked to be of a high standard, but were more like a retirement home from the 70's (including the smell). The en suite was horrible with a large collection of dead flies in the light, a shower attached to the bath taps that only came to waist height, and clumps of hair in the corner of the bathroom. We had to work during our travels, which is why we wanted to pay more for a quiet, comfortable location, with standard wifi and a standard level of cleanliness in all areas of the room - none of these were met, especially as the single-glazed windows rattled all night, the pipes hissed constantly, the room temperature was either freezing or boiling, and it was possible to hear the guest in the room next to ours coughing and using the toilet. All in all, a horrible experience - but the staff were great. Should have played it safe with a Travelodge or Holiday Inn.
The room was comfy and staff were happy to help. Food was good, hot and reasonably priced.
The restaurant was closed in the evening on our second night which I think was due to a wedding and we had to eat in the bar area which was cold and the wedding guests were coming in and out to get to the wedding reception. The bar and food service was a little slow.
The setting was good and it was quiet outside.
We arrived at 7pm on Saturday to 'relax' after a hard day's work and wanted nothing more than to get into bed, do a little work on the laptop and watch TV with a glass of wine. We were told that the 'bedroom internet' hadn't been working for a few days and that someone was 'supposed to be coming' on Wednesday. I abandoned my work, and thereby lost money, showered, dried with a tiny towel and prepared for bed. There was no TV remote control and reception said they had no idea where it was. Overall, it's incredible that such a lovely building & setting could produce such a totally unpleasant experience, not just the 'technology problems' but the general 'scruffiness', the poorly trained staff & the lack of attention to almost every detail. As people who travel almost continually I have to say that we rarely give poor feedback. This, however, was well deserved.
The price for two with breakfast at a clean comfortable hotel.
The tomatoes served were hard and not cooked enough.
Warm and cosy. Plenty of hot water (careful - it can be too hot). Cooked breakfast was very good. Understand from other guests that dinner was also very good.
Decor is very tired. Restaurant: windows dirty and covered in webs, blinds falling down in places, wallpaper rather tatty and coming away in places. Played very loud music at breakfast. Bathroom: mouldy sealant and grouting in shower and around sink; back of bathroom door was dirty. Noisy room - could hear everyone who passed our room to the extent their voices drowned out the TV; woken by late returners and staff arriving at 6.45am! Sash window mouldy. Cocktail bar not open at advertised times. Village Tavern Bar not open at advertised times. When open, service poor. Understand from other guests that service at dinner also poor with long waiting times. Reception not always manned so kept waiting to get room key - or help yourself!
Breakfast was included in the price
Very much faded grandeur. Room was small and bare. Went to Tavern bar attached to hotel and there was a loud, foul-mouthed group of youths in there whose unruly behaviour went unchecked. Would not go there again.
Room was comfortable and clean, breakfast was very good. Convenient location for Durham and A1(M) to Newcastle and beyond.
Bathroom was small and looked like it needed a little modernisation.
Country location was nice Room was ok Breakfast was pleasant
Pub attached wasn't very nice Food in pub was ok but not great
The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The room was clean, warm and comfortable and the food in the restaurant was lovely.
The hotel is in a lovely position however the rooms look a bit tired and in need of the hotel inspector to give some lifting ideas to the place along with some useful info on ... No WFI in the bedroom due to poor signal along with the TV not working and no decaf coffee in the restaurant after an evening meal.
The history and food. staff were so kind and helpful.
Being on the second floor had to negotiate a couple flights of stairs with a couple of suitcases. Not ideal.
