Hallgarth Manor Country Hotel & RestaurantPittington, DH6 1AB Durham (Show map) Good, Score from 48 reviews“A nice hotel in pleasant surroundings. No lift present but that was not a problem for me. Some of the furniture looked a little dated but I think that was the intention. The room was clean and the breakfast excellent. Would stay again.”

Nice gardens.Plenty of parking. The younger staff very pleasent and happy to help. Good place for a base to explore area. Shabby room in need of renovation. Doors of very poor quality. Bathroom very old with shower been moved several times with holes and wall plugs still visible of showers previous location.Expensive for quality. Main building and bar ok for drinks but function room draught beer absolutely disgusting. Smelt like drains. Staff didnt change the beer or stop selling the rancid beer.

Cooked breakfast Room service appalling - dirty towels not replaced, bed not made properly, overflowing bin left, coffee, tea, toilet rolls not replenished. Replaced when asked, but toilet rolls left on floor behind door not in bathroom and supermarket bag used as a bin linerGeneral area jaded and threadbare carpet. Dining room carpet not cleaned - bits of food on floor. Layers of dust on top of furniture. Noisy plumbing from other rooms. Asked to pay on arrival which is not common practice. If the standard above is commonplace perhaps people are unwilling to pay their bill is all I conclude from that. Heard other guests complaining about various things in checkout.

Breakfast and the pleasant local girls waitressing. Grounds to the back were decent. Closeness to immediate family members. Would have been tempted to eat there had time allowed. Mattress was poor - indented and springs weak when sitting on the left hand side of bed. Shower was flimsy and shabby with, in my opinion, a dangerously high step into and out of it (over 300mm). Overall in need of an overhaul decoratively - poor standard of maintenance and tired decor. Of the two large towels (only one bath towel) on the first night one had a large hole in it. Mean not to have two bath towels. Piped music at breakfast. *I am the marketing director of fairly large plc maintenance company and am used to the building/service environment.

The food was very good and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The grounds and rear of the hotel were attractive. The external appearnce of the hotel on arrival was disappointing: cheap looking signs and the Village Tavern spoiled the appearance of what had been an elegant house. The car park was in need of attention. The entrance, two doors to negotiate with luggage, an ugly yellow strip on the step to warn of its existence, and the shabbiness of the paintwork did not give a good first impression. Inside, the decor was depressing :a worn maroon carpet on the stais and an odd assortment of carpets elsewhere . And my room was depressing! An odd assortmnt of furniture and during the two evenings I was there the noise of the plumbing in the room next door was very loud indeed . Finally, many of the uphostered seats in the bar area were stained. Well! You did ask. i just feel it needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it up to the standrd such a lovely house demands

The staff were extremely friendly and could not do enough for you and for us it was ideally situated as we were visiting family. Not really an issue but it was dated and desperately needed a coat of paint and brightening up.

This is a scenic country building in a rural setting ideal for Durham and Sunderland. Room was clean, comfortable and all usual facilities. Food (breakfast) was good but not exceptional. Staff were all very friendly.

Good food, good staff, free wi-fi, rooms upstaris can be noisy due to thin walls and the general creakyness of an old building but if you like a bit of charachter that won't bother you. Tv's in rooms aren't great no flat pannels but I just use my laptop most of the time anyway. I've stayed a couple of times and something keeps me going back!

Very nice hotel, friendly local people working in it, comfortable room, good facilities. Very enjoyable few days at hmh and would use it again. Nothing negative to say about the hotel except the carpet is worn in places and I would like to see more local ounty Durham pictures on the wall rather than flowers. Durham has so much to advertise.

The hotel was individual, clean and functional. The garden was relaxing and the location was convenient. The decor and furniture was a little tired, however the clenliness and service compensated.

We stayed at the manor as we were guests at a wedding night. It has a fantastic location, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. 5* all round. Only thing that was a let down was the price of the room. We paid £150 before breakfast, very small but nice and clean with very modern en-suite. Would be more realistic priced£80-£100. We've stayed at lumley castle and wynyard, and feel well worth money. Would still recommend though.

We visited ( 2 couples ) to go and see Take That in concert at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland. Staff were great on check in, organised a taxi at an extremely good rate which was organised very well, timing etc. Drinks were very reasonable in the hotel bar and the breakfast was very good. On the whole a pleasant stay and I would stay again ! Rooms were ok, lots of character but mine personally was not very clean. I would question it's label as a Superior double ! Also the towels in my sisters room had to be seen to be believed. Suffice to say replacements were required ! On the whole the hotel is ok but is a bit pricey as it is looking a little tired and run down and could do with some money being spent on decor, carpets etc. I also wouldn't recommend any late night snacks !!!

Pleasant hotel in country surroundings but close to Durham and convenient for visiting family there. Staff friendly, room clean, bathroom up to date and clean. Niggles- shower could have been bigger for more comfortable experience and was difficult to get in & out of as quite high off the floor and doorway small. Bed rather too firm & pillows meagre (room literature said more available, but when I asked at 10.30 pm reception staff didn't know where to get them from!) Also the tea/coffee available in the room could have been more generous- only 2 teabags/coffee sachets and one hot chocolate, and one biscuit each. Minor niggles but they did affect my personal experience. Would stay again but would make sure I asked for room with bigger shower and more pillows!
